wisdom tooth extraction question

Hi all.

I had my wisdom tooth removed 4 weeks ago tomorrow and still have a really large hole where it used to be. Was wondering how long they usually take to heal?
The oral surgeon said mine was a difficult extraction because it was quite badly impacted, would this make it take longer?

Getting so sick of food getting stuck in it and all those salty rinses!!

Thanks in advance for any replies :)

Ask your dentist/dental surgeon tomorrow.
I'm pleased it went well, I remember your 'oh no, I'm having my wisdom tooth removed' thread. Hope it wasn't as bad as you thought it would be.

nope, wasn't nice because he had to cut my gum to get it and just left the cut and the hole open oO

lol, thought you were gonna ask ,"how long does it take to grow back in"
#10
Perhaps you need a stitch to hold the gum together - phone the dentist up and tell them and see what they say.

It took quite a while for the gum to grow and "hole" till gives him jib now.

Salt rinses are usually only for a week, so after 4 weeks I would have thought that you could go back to your normal hygene routine, including lightly brushing the gum surface to remote the trapped food.

having mine out next week, really scared

Nick my dental hygiene is far better than most ppl at the moment thank you, I use my sonicair 3 times a day and rinse after eating anything. The salty rinses seem to get any trapped food out easier than just plain water

I remember your post before christmas missp, tbh id of expected the hole to heal over by now :|
I had a wisdom tooth out at a dental hospital about 4 weeks ago too, the bloodclot sealed the hole afterwards, and then it was just salt rinses for 3 or 4 days after that . Its almost healed over now.
Id get back in touch with them if your still having problems :|

thanks for all your replies :)
yeah getting a bit sick of my teeth now! going to phone up the dentist at 9 and try and get an appointment booked. have an appointment already for the hospital booked but that's not until next month to see if my TMJ (jaw problems) is improving.
just googled this and apparently it can take months to heal?!
i can't remember loosing my clot and didn't have any more pain than expected so don't think i had dry socket or anything.

the thing that is really annoying me right now is that i have no wisdom teeth at all yet at the bottom and have been feeling like i have one more trying to come through :(

I went for my consultation last week. They took another X-Ray & said that as it was going be a pain to get out (it's facing my other teeth on its side, but rooted to my jaw bone), as long as its causing me no pain, they dont need to take it out - yay :D

I just need to get an X-Ray every few years to make sure it doesn't grow & push against my other teeth.
