Woman shot dead by her 2 year old

Only in America.
I'm sure our American cousins will continue to deny that better gun controls are needed over there.
"Guns don't kill people, [insert alternative such as 'rappers'] do".

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-30636326

A woman in the US state of Idaho has been killed after her two-year-old son accidentally shot her with a gun he found when reaching into her handbag.

The woman was shot in a Wal-Mart in Hayden, a town in Idaho's northern panhandle.
A sheriff's spokesman said the woman was shopping with several children at the time of the incident.
Officials said she had a concealed weapons permit but her identity has not been released.
The woman and children were in the rear of the store near the electronics area when the shooting occurred, officials said.
The Wal-Mart closed after the shooting and is not expected to reopen until Wednesday.
Local media reported the woman was visiting the area and died at the scene.
Witnesses and video surveillance from the store helped officials determine the shooting was accidental, said broadcaster KREM.

Horrific.

I wonder how families cope with protecting the child as they grow up from knowing the awful truth until they are old enough to understand what happened?

Imagine then finding out later on in life, how your mother died.

A truly sad but completely avoidable death.

It's America - yes they have a right to bear arms but sadly education, common sense and a lack of good gun handling/safety training are known issues

Not all gun accidents are avoidable but most are and as I said in a country where guns are, in general, freely obtained together with poor training and the general intelligence level of the American population will inevitably cause this type of accident.

I refer to the accident some months ago where an ex military gun handler was training a 8 or 9 year old how to shoot an Uzi

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/video/news/video-1115591/9-year-old-girl-accidentally-kills-shooting-instructor-Uzi.html

Sad news

Almost feel this may be a case of a Darwin Award?

this is sad but honestly how many times must it happen before the American public wake up

America can't change now, there's too many weapons out there to be able to do anything about it.

Then you have the whole American mentality towards guns.

given how many people in the uk carry knifes what would you use to protect yourself if someone threatened to stab you with one?

obviously sad news that was easily avoidable, however would sooner carry a gun for self defense than
be at the mercy of some toe-rag who would likely be carrying a weapon illegally.

so you would hope the attacker would be willing to give you time to search for a weapon
that might explain why 15 people are stabbed in London alone everyday

as I don't carry a weapon I would be in the same position as you but I wouldn't blame someone for wanting to have something to protect themselves with if it was legal to do so

no, my advice is if someone wants a legally owned gun to protect themselves from others with guns what business is it of yours
unless you have a plan on how to remove guns from all the criminals in the usa, in which is unlikely given the amount of illegal guns in the uk

Do you understand that there's a difference, say between for example stealing a twix and murder?

Hey they're both breaking the law, right?

There's degrees of severity involved here. The two examples you set are incomparible, and quite frankly idiotic.

Carrying a knife to protect yourself comparing with smoking weed are as comparable as stealing a twix and murder? And you call me idiotic.

I didn't call you idiotic - I said your comparison was idiotic and so was mine, that was the point - the two are not comparable.

Anyway all I'm saying is America is effed because of it's stupid gun laws. People can scream 'constitution' until they are blue in the face but the fact remains that the "arms" the constitution refers to are the weapons that were available at the time of writing the second amendment which was in 1791, which are a far cry from the handguns, pistols, shotguns and semi automatics we see today.

I dont buy that arguement, If i was threatened with a gun or knife in the street its most likely someone trying to rob me. As **** off as i would be I will hand over my stuff and walk away.
Pulling out my own weapon will most likely escalate the situation and make it worse.

Astonishingly the girl is white as well, I don't know why I am conditioned to think otherwise when I hear about shooting incidents, perhaps there is no smoke without fire, perhaps it is the media that puts this into your head with all the recent police shootings / riots etc.

too complacent, it was her responsibility as the permit holder to keep the weapon out of a child's reach at all times.
if the boy had shot another walmart shopper instead then everyone would be blaming the mother
