Woolworths in big trouble

I don't get to go there much now but it will be the end of an era if it goes.

Employs 20,000 people, does not bear thinking about

I heard that another company might buy Woolworths for £1.00 and take over all its debts. Anyway, I remember that Woolworths was going bust several years ago and another company came in to save it. I think the same thing will happen this time too.

woolworths as a brand will be staying, its the owners who will change

they are a worldwide brand

It employs 30, 000 not 20,000

It's an unrelated company , it just so happens it has the same name .

Woolies as a brand is worldwide but the UK's wollies are totally independent of any other country.
Saying that I did offer to buy the firm myself with a quid until the cashier told me I would be buying into a quarter of a billion pound of debt.

Probably not a good idea to buy woollies vouchers as Xmas gifts.:)

Save the pic n mix!!!! - all its good for lol... HMV for CDS, DVDS and Games, Toys R Us for Toys... and theres plenty of kiddies clothes shops around... what did woolies ever have that was special and unique... other than... pic n mix!!! if they bring back the fill a cup up for 2 quid, im sure sales would pick up again :p... (im joking of course). 30,000 jobs though, the economy really is in crisis... Bad Times...

But anyway, will it save 30,000 jobs? Nope. It will save some jobs but the 1st thing that the company buying it will do is shut shops and cut jobs.

I dont see the point in woolworths anymore.

Its a shame. 30k jobs. Economy = Down the chute! :-(

I've already been in that position in the last month so I know what it feels like to be made redundant. There are other jobs out there.

I'd rather see a good bargain myself, slate it if you want but since this is a UK Deals site and not a sympathy column then all I was pointing out is that Woolies will be trying to cash in on the Christmas rush to get money, to do this they will need to offer good bargains, can only be good for the consumer.

:x Sure there will be plenty of deals to be had now the inevitable has happened, thats for the deals section. I posted this here because we can all remember Woolies as a place we went with our pocket money, some like me worked there part time while at school.

30,000 is a huge number of staff to loose jobs and I don't apologise that I have every sympathy for them.
