The house next door to me is currently empty and owned by a housing assosciation, this week theyve been working in it but the workmen are starting work at 7am or just before, 6.45am as was the case this morning and its sanding, drilling and banging so not so nice to get up to and with the house being empty it really echo's thru the walls, are there any rules about sociable hours for workmen?

Invite them round to have a sit down with your parrot. You will never see them again.

complain to the housing association - i think (though i may be wrong) unsociable hours are defined as before 8am and after 9pm, so no work should be being carried out outside those hours.

Noise from construction sites

Manchester City Council has drafted clear, simple guidance for building contractors designed to minimise disruption and noise. Phone Environmental Health on 0161 234 4873 for a copy of the guidance, Controlling Pollution from Building Sites. Briefly, the guidance recommends that contractors (and subcontractors should inform local residents prior to work commencing and they should provide contact details. The guidance also specifies that construction work should normally take place only between the following hours:

Monday - Friday*: 7.30am - 6pm

Saturday*: 8.30am - 2pm

Sunday / Bank Holidays: No work

*May arrive on site 30 minutes earlier but no working outside these times, unless changed by prior agreement. Noise to be kept to a minimum in the first hour.

If you want more information, contact Pollution Control on 0161 234 4873.[/SIZE]
