25 years ago the world's first website went live to the public.

The site, created by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, was a basic text page with hyperlinked words that connected to other pages.

Berners-Lee used the public launch to outline his plan for the service, which would come to dominate life in the twenty-first century.

Gosh can't believe it, before that I can remember our generations version of the Internet was getting a cassette tape off the front of a games or pc magazine and loading it up in the spectrum 128 and it would have articles a game reviews data base and cheats library etc before the World Wide Web came about but it was the same sort of feeling using it, Anyone here remember it or am I the only ancient old speccy/Vic20/C64 /Atari etc, gamer here that remembers it?

The internet and the World wide Web are two different things. The internet existed long before the WWW came along.

(Simple analogy - Think of the internet as the mobile phone network, but Smartphones & Tablets are the WWW that allow us to use the mobile network).

The internet could (and did) exist without the WWW but the WWW could not exist without the internet.

The internet is TCP, IP, FTP, command line stuff etc.

The WWW is browsers, HTML, web sites etc, which came along well after the internet was around.

The WWW made the internet usable by the general public (and allowed us to watch kittens on YouTube !)

And all thanks to Tim Berners Lee.

Thats not what I meant, I always remembered the Spectrums as being better than the Amstrads thats all, might be a false memory though as all my mates had Spectrums and I felt left out sometimes.

They were pretty much on par with each other to be honest except for colours. The amstrad had better colours and wasn't affected by Attribute/Colour Clash but the spectrum had slightly better scrolling due to lazy programmers.

Your memory is certaintly better than mine, I think what I really missed out on was swapping games with mates.

WWW was such an innovation. It's a shame that it has not been policed and is now primarily used for porn and other dodgy business.

I had a lot of games and most of my friends had amstrads. Can't believe I sold my infocom games for next to nothing though, looking back on that it was a bad move :) lol

File Transfer Protocol (by Abhay Bhushan) originally ran on the ARPANET project's Network Transfer Protocol [NTP].
