Hi all,

I am thinking of buying a iPhone 3G 16gb which is 15month old but it excellent condition ex-contract off someone my sister knows - question is how much do you think its worth ?

Also what is the price difference between that and a 3Gs ? as I would prefer a 3Gs.

Thanks all :D

Its quite a bit more expensive tho :-/

not worth getting the 3GS imo (i own a 3gs). Slightly faster than a 3g. Thats about it.

Yep... thats about right. My gf got a second hand 3G a month or so ago and paid a bit less than that. I'd say wait for the 4G to come out and see how much the second hand 3GS market shapes up after that.

Cheers everyone, she wants £200 for it :) should i get it, sell it and wait for the 4g to drive 3s prices down ? lol

I dont think the prices will drop too much, because apple will no doubt overprice them and the 3gs still retails for around the £400 mark, so it will be interested too see how much the 4g starts off at.

3GS is DEFINATELY worth buying over the 3G I've owned both and theres a huge speed difference, 3G just feels laggy and slow and outdated compared to it.

....HTC Desire ftw.

I don't thinkt he 3gs price will drop that much. I bought and sold a lot of iphones and the prices for the 3g didn't really drop because they kept the retail prices of pay and go iphones the same, so unless apple drop the prices of the payg handsets, 2nd hand prices will remain the same.

I also agree with scrivs- the 3gs is rapid compared to the 3g. I had a 3g and managed to get a 3gs at a decent price- I wasn't going to upgrade as I didn't think the price difference was worth it- believe me, it is. I kept telling my g/f how much quicker it was and she'd mock me, she upgraded yesterday, and I quote....."I bloody love how quick this phone is!!!"

but just remember you can't sell it here as no profiteering is allowed and we all know what you paid for it :)

Don't forget 10% paypal fees and 10% ebay fees - hence why people sell on here and accept low(er) offers. If it went for £230 on ebay you would make a loss :w00t:

Argh, it really annoys me when people say 10% fees. it's NOT 10% fees, certainly not on everything. I sold my g/f's 3g, mint condition (no headphones) for £300 inc pnp. I was charged just over £8 by ebay as the final value fee (cost about £1 to list) and £10.45 by paypal. So was less than 5% fees charged by each. Total fees came to £20, which stil isn't 10%

Okay thanks :) I thought 10% was a little steep.

When did you sell the 3G and what gb was it ? :)

Cheers

It was an 8GB, sold it last week! Got £about £275 after fees and postage, paid £300 for a 3gs that had a crack in the case and came with brand new accessories. Apple replaced the iphone with a new/refurbed one (looks brand new) because the cases aren't supposed to crack- i think that's why the rumoured 4th gen model has a flat back
