Worth starting an eBay dispute thingy over?

£0.00 @ eBay
Right, well basically the other day I bought on eBay a Sega MegaDrive on eBay. Heres the listing: http://****.co.uk/Sega-MegaDrive-2-6-games-Pad-and-Arcade-Stick-/140542237736?pt=UK_VideoGames_Vi…

The listing states that theres no 'AV' lead which was fair enough as I was goind to buy an RGB lead anyways.

The guy must have meant AC lead as there was not one when it was delivered. I have contacted him and he states that it was always mentioned in the listing that there was no 'AC' lead even though he put AV.

He says I can return the whole let to him for a refund minus the postage, which will cost around £7. Is it justifiable in me starting an eBay dispute thingy for false advertisment???

seller assumes all responsibilty for there listings
#2
do you have a master system?
#3
Does not matter, you will still have to pay for return postage a good seller would realise its their mistake and refund the P&P, many dont
#4
if you open a dispute, you will win, and you should get your original postage back, however you'd probably have to stand to the return postage.
if you do send it back, make sure u get proof of sending!
#5
if you do open a dispute will they not say the same as the seller and tell you to send it back for a refund? maybe see if he will go halfs on the right cable you need or if there not expensive see if he will send you the money for you to buy it.
#6
It says this :

AV LEAD - THE ONE I'VE GOT IS FOR THE MEGADRIVE 1 - SORRY!

To me that doesn't read very clear at all,so not sure what way a dispute would go.

I'd say try for an Ebay dispute, they may give you a no fault refund.
#7
Ok, just opened a dispute. Will see what happens...

no mate

The seller doesn`t list an AC adaptor as being included in the deal, and I don`t see one in the picture, so I`m not sure you can claim `not as described` for that. However, he does list an AV cable on the contents of the deal (even though he seems to be saying it`s the wrong type), and there`s one in the pic, so if he didn`t send that you could claim.

Good luck.

Will prob cost you less to just buy a power cable on eBay on its own.

The cost of return postage (tracked) and then hassle of buying another console elsewhere is surely mitigated by just cutting your loses and buying a power cable for a tenner?
banned#11
you could ask him where exactly he said on the listing

it was always mentioned in the listing that there was no 'AC' lead even though he put AV.

as i can't see it anywhere - it does state an av lead is included even if it were the wrong one

if he doesn't refund the postage neg him, leave low dsrs for as described

For goodness sake, the seller imo doesn't know his av from his ac, ok he shouldn't have said it in his listing, but as a buyer c'mon, let it go man, hardly worth the hassle is it? Jeepers car boot sellers fair give those 'consoles' away, I have one somewhere in my parents house, lol, I wouldn't expect any money for it, no need to open up a big dispute over something so trivial. You bought crap on a whim OP, we've all done it, get over it,lol

I disagree, its the fact the seller expects it to be posted back at the buyers cost and not refund the initial postage either that would bug me. The buyer shouldn't be out of pocket around £12 for having to mess about returning something that wasn't as described. At the very least the seller should have admitted his mistake and grabbed another lead for the OP from ebay or somewhere surely?
What difference does it make if he doesn't know the difference between an ac and av lead, neither was stated to be missing?
banned#13
where does it state that an AC lead is included anyway?

you would lose a dispute as it stands.
#14
OP just take the cable from a old kettle or buy one for 99p & still leave him the Feedback you believe is fair.
#15
of course there is a point to starting a dispute... everyone loves a good fight!
#16
I had a similar fight with a seller regarding postage when they said "all subsequent items free" took me a month to sort out they for the life of them couldn't see where it was and spoke to me like I was lieing through my teeth.

Short story: Ebay sellers can be morons and due to high fee's properly try to play the system, ebay staff are very helpful and quick to resolve things if you have a dispute ask them about it BUT in this case is it truely worth it when you can just replace the lead without much issue?

As stated theres numerous other ways to power this old system as it was generic (god I love old systems), personally I wouldn't bother with the dispute but you could always email the seller with a big shiney pic with it circling the "does not include AV lead" :P

buyers like op give ebay a bad name. private sellers seldomly sell on ebay as a result. shame really, means limited bargains to be had.

surely the expectation would be that it is, and if it wasn't it should be stated?
If you bought a ps3 and it arrived without the drive it in you wouldn't think 'oh well he didn't say it had one' because it comes with one as standard, and if it was removed then it should be stated.
I'm sure this was a genuine mistake on the part of the seller, but lying to the buyer then expecting him to pay £12+ to get his £15 back is wrong IMHO

why is that? what has he done wrong?
#20
The listing confused me because i've no idea what the cable is oO

Is it shown on the auction and did the OP get any cable at all ?

What ?? don't be ridiculous, granted their are some buyers on Ebay who can be a pain but in a lot of cases it's sellers NOT listing an item for sale properly that causes problems.

If a seller lists everything for sale concisely with good pictures and lists all faults etc then a seller should have few problems on Ebay.

its ebay - take nothing for granted (cant compare a drive with the AC cable).

clearly doesnt show an AC cable in the pic and not listed either

OP would lose a case imho

what would be the point of that?

The buyer can always ask the seller to refund them the 99p & save themselves from a neg.
Also if making claim the buyer would win in my opinion as seller has listed

SEGA MEGADRIVE 2

GOOD WORKING ORDER

COMPLETE WITH

OFFICIAL SEGA CONTROLLER

OFFICIAL SEGA ARCADE STICK

AV LEAD - THE ONE I'VE GOT IS FOR THE MEGADRIVE 1 - SORRY!

6 GAMES AS PICTURED

BUY WITH CONFIDENCE - CHECK MY FEEDBACK

no, its a 10V AC adaptor (about £10 on ebay)

Can someone tell me what an AC lead is and what's it for, doesn't the item work without it ?

Yes your correct I just read the OP & then googled AC lead.

OP you can return it for under £5 & maybe the seller will meet you halfway as the seller in truth should have stated it will not work unless you have/purchase the AC Adapter.

You can also buy these adapters for around £2-£3 at carboot sales all day long.Geez I have at least 2 or 3 of them myself & would have given you one for free if you lived in Glasgow.

The console does not take a AC lead, it takes a AC Adapter that you can google under IMAGES or looked at them on ebay.

You're assuming wrong & I've already stated that I've googled the item & it shows a power cable not Adapter.
I can only go by what the OP says & what they said was AC lead when in fact it was AC Adapter.
You then ask what a AC lead is for & I'm sure that's obvious if it powers on a kettle don't you think.

its the power cable, so no it wouldn't work without one. If you could use any old cable then it obviously wouldn't be a problem, but considering they are about a tenner, thats more than the console cost.

Considering the seller is refusing to refund the £7 original postage paid, I very much doubt he will do anything about the postage to return it!

not sure why, they both come as standard when bought new, and neither can be used without them.
You know what I mean anyway :)
Could have been a laptop without a charger, which there aren't copies for and cost £50

People seem to be missing the fcat he has also stated he said on the auction it wasn't included when it says nothing of the sort - even if he did get mixed up with av/ac leads

That's the power cable he needs Deb, if someone on here has got one, could the OP not pay for postage, and then see if he can get a partial refund from the ebay seller for listing it incorrectly?

I would have sent the OP one but in a rush next few days due to going to Turkey for 2 weeks.
Can send it after that if OP is stuck.

That would be greatly appreciated, thanks very much :)

All this would have been avoided if the listing was clearer oO
