Guys im looking for a new laptop and looking for views as to whether it is worth paying more for an i3 processer with less ram and hard drive size over a pentium dual core with a bigger ram and hard driver?

Same laptop, same graphics etc

i3 = £399

Intel® Core™ i3-350M Processor
• 2.26 GHz, Level 3 cache 3 MB

3GB Ram 320GB Hard Drive

Pentinum = £383

Intel® Pentium® Processor P6100
• 2.0 GHz, Level 3 cache 3 MB

4GB Ram 500GB Hard Drive

Views appreciated

The i3 is faster and works different(each core works two channels),the ram in the i3 is likely to be ddr3 therefore faster than ddr2 ,unless you are loading it with lots of movies etc 320 gb would be enough for you.Therefore I would go for the faster i3 machine (ram can usually be added very easily if needed) ,MARK

Thanks Mark

The ram in both is DDR3 it seems

4 GB DDR3 (2 x 2048 MB) - Pentium

3 GB DDR3 (1 x 1024 MB + 1 x 2048 MB) - i3

What brands are yours?

This is the best one to get http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5084760/Trail/searchtext%3ETOSHIBA+I3.htm a Toshiba at £399. Only 2GB RAM but upgradeable to 8GB

They are HP, reason I am looking at them is I dont want the seperate number keypad to the right and it seems only HP and Dell still make laptops without them.

Don't have much experience of HP, but never ever buy a Dell laptop, they are useless.

Assuming all other things are exactly equal, I'd probably pay up to £40 more for the i3 (albeit with less ram + HDD space) that the Pentium.
