Hi chaps,
thinking of getting PACKARD BELL iPower X9810 Desktop PC. Core 2 Quad as been offered one cheap

Processor Type: INTEL CORE 2 Quad Q8200 2.33Ghz
Memory Size: 4 GB
Memory Type: DDR 2 SDRAM - 667Mhz
Hard Drive Capacity: 750 GB SATA II 7200RPM
Graphics Card Type: NVidia GeForce 9800GT
would this run world of warcraft without lagging in the large raids and large cities or do i need a bigger graphic card or faster processor
many many thanks in advance Mark

Should be okay.. Graphics cards isn't the mutts but should cope pretty well ok. Quad core isn't really an issue as I don't 'think' it's a HT capable game? maybe wrong.

Dont listen to Nigel he doesnt grasp why people pay to play games, that will run it easily

I think that graphics card will struggle with large scenes with action. GTX260 min. It depends on the price your payin too.

What graphic card would you recommend as might get the system and if required upgrade the graphic card but would want one that wouldn't require changing again, might need to upgrade the psu as well though

I think a 9800GT will run most games fine at 720p. I've never played WOW but would have thought it will be absolutely fine.

It should run WoW reasonably well at moderate resolutions although the game may be subject to lag in scenes with large amounts of players due to lag in the network connection.

Yes, at a low resolution like that it'll be easier for the graphics card to run the game.

I can't comment specifically on WoW as I don't play but the 9800GT was a nearly top of the range card a couple of years ago and definitely faster than anything available when world of warcraft came out in 2005. I would expect it to run almost all 2005 games flawlessly, but MMOs like World of Warcraft are ongoing projects and if one of the expansions or updates has significantly increased the system requirements it may not run it at the highest settings anymore. It's still just about a mid-range card though, so it's likely to run the game smoothly at the lowish resolution you're asking it to.

With me playing wow on 1650x1050 and everything was maxed out apart from lighting and I got a solid 60fps I had no problems with a 8800GT

thanks guys rep added might wait till after christmas and see if there is any bargains,my son is paying for most of the pc and thinks he will get a 1gb graphic card just to make sure ,just one more question i know there is a large difference besides the gt260 mentioned any other cards you would recommend ati4670?

The amount of memory on the graphics card is largely irrelevent to speed, a 1GB card can be far slower than a 9800GT or far faster depending on with GPU it uses.

The GTX 260 (There's no GT 260) is an awful lot faster than the 4670, probably around twice the speed. It's between the 4770/4850 and 4870. It's somewhat faster than the 9800GT.

Just to back up the comment above, memory size on graphics card is frequently used for marketting as many people assume the more the better. In reality it can actually be worse as some graphics card manufacturers chuck a load of slower memory on the card instead, the graphics core can't take advantage of the additional memory anyway and due to the clockspeed being lower it's actually worse than a card with the standard amount of memory.
