Just bought this iphone 3g from ebay at a very good price: 220435680083

However, feedback is not good at all, and if you check the completed items from this seller they have had laptops, watches, iphones ect all completed in the last few days...

He does accept paypal, im not sure to complete on this as it just doesnt feel right.
Should I take the risk ?

say your close and want to pay cash and collect lol

sounds dodgy, i would be careful
#3
dodgy theyve bought like 10 apple macs recently nearly 5 g in 30 days
#4
So you bid, win and THEN ask the question? Say no more.

Thanks guys for the research, never thought to check what they have been buying, but 10 applce macs in a short space of time, alarm bells are definately ringing now !! I messaged the buyer and told him to text me from his number, his response just now was:

Hello there would you rather use Paypal? It's entirely up to you,
I just suggested a way you could get hold of the phone within
48hrs. If you do pay by Paypal can you make sure you make a
direct payment, that is, not to place the money on hold for
21days. If this happens then I cannot ship the phone until mid
July, nevertheless I will wrap it up and I'm sure we can come to
an arrangement. Call me ******* I'm still up and awake!

I think the feedback he's had in the past says it all really...
"STAY AWAY! Dishonest seller LIES about posting the item. Got a refund in the end"
"LIES AND IS VERY DISHONEST PLEASE STAY AWAY!!!!!"

Personally, I'd be very wary in bidding on that auction just becuase there's no pictures of the actual item (decent ones anyway). If I was gonna pay £270, I'd want to make sure it was in decent condition first! The fact he doesn't take paypal makes the whole thing smell even more fishy.

Suggesting cash on collection to him sounds like a good idea. If he tries to resist, leave it well alone.

No thats not the case, I won the item as I used buy it now within 10 mins of it being listed. I didnt want to research as I know it would be gone. So once I bought, i decided to check his completed listings, and with that history alarm bells are definitely ringing.

You on dial up then? Get BB, you'll be able to see somebody's feedback in seconds:)
#9
Why did you buy it now? Surely you check feedback before purchasing??
#10
Im going to complete and take the risk as he does take paypal, and I will fund it through my credit card so im protected. Lets hope its genuine
#11
tell him you would like it really quick for fathers day and as your father is the high prince of antartica and you would be more then happy to send him £5000 by cheque but only if he posts it out now for you!...........you never know, they might fall for their own scams!

Don't rely on the credit card bit. As you're not making a direct transaction they don't have to honor a chargeback request:thumbsup:

You must be desperate that's all i can say,
#15
you are "taking a risk" with £270............ wish i could take a risk with that, id put it on red and hope for the best. Pretty much the same as what you are doing!
#16
60 quid more you get a brand new 1 with a free unlimited internet sim

why bother?
#17
Ok, the guy seems desperate for the money. He has rang me twice, I asked him to take a pic of the phone with user id next to it. His answer was the only camera I have is in the phone - so I cant really. For the people dissing me for buying first, ask yourself the same question, would you complete, Ok I already know your answer - you would not have bought in the first place.

But still - the desperate nature of the seller doesnt fit right - so everyone's advice much appreciated and I will not be completing

Get him to take the photo in a mirror, like this one.....

that's exactly what you did do - you bought it then back tracked
#21
Let us know how getting the refund goes

If he actually does send it to you, it would probably be a fake one. Be logical

Guys, nothing to worry about, all your purchase are protected if you pay through Paypal.
I would not worry, pay and if no phone in 3 days, raise a dispute straight.
Your payment is safe.

I have to agree with earlier comments, you should have checked the feedback first.
#24
Don't think you can raise a dispute for 10 days? but not sure

Paypal protection is not as straightforward as it sounds.. works well for 'genuine sellers' with a genuine Paypal / bank account. If someone is dodgy, paypal protection claims are meaningless :)

you obviously havent had to claim too many times from paypal then :whistling:

They go above and beyond to get out of any payment to you.

if you have paid for this item, then make sure you dont sign for any item from this seller until you have checked the contents.
#28
If the guy had no negative feedback then it would of been a more un-educated risk but the guy has negatives for not completing. You would of been stupid to do so. Impatient sellers ringing you just confirms the stupidity of the sale.

You didn't see the ticket tout in the Sun that sold £500K's woth of tickets and did a runner then?

They will sell X amount of goods and then empty and close their bank account, lets see how quickly eBay refund you then.

Thank god you never completed my heart sank when you said you were completing. Always check before bidding. It's true PP would of covered you if you paid through the lisitng, however, you could of been sent a stone in a box.................you would of got your money back but a lot of trouble and time in the process.
How this guy makes his money is getting his money is by encouraging you to pay by bank transfer of similar by passing PP, which it looks like he did to you.

wrong! paypal will only refund in most cases IF they can recover the money from the seller.

How many times have we seen people get the standard fob off from paypal. S

"Sorry but we have been unable to recover the funds from the sellers account. rest assured we will endeavour to recover these funds if we can"

Then you see the same seller still sellling!

No he is right, if he paid through the lisitng on ebay, he would of been covered and got a refund, pp could not of refused the refund and they would not of done, he would of been 100% covered.
People have problems when they either, don't pay direct through the lisitng and send to a new PP address, or in times past PP were processing buyer protection as buyer complaints in error and not paying out, until appeal, but they have sorted that.
In this case if he paid through the listing he would of been covered and would of been paid out eventually
PP do cover a buyer no matter whay on ebay as long as they BUYER does it by the book:)
All the ticket tout victims have been refunded, one posted here

Sorry but you are clearly wrong! Dont just take my word for it.

Have a read of all the horror stories here:-

CSI mate... paypal sucks is full of complete and utter moronic retards.

While paypal can indeed suck, and if its not through ebay, you could well be screwed, when its a ebay listing, and fully protected, paypal will refund you even if they cant recover it from the seller.
banned#34
in that case, they must have got a lot better as I bought an item about 6 months ago which never arrived and did everything by the book via ebay / paypal.

I got refunded 17p as thats all they could recover from a purchase of around £15.
#35
I have been scammed on eBay before and got this message "Sorry but we have been unable to recover the funds from the sellers account. rest assured we will endeavour to recover these funds if we can"

It took up to 3months before i got my money back, so there is some hope.

I always check feedback when buying and i mainly buy from shops or powersellers these days.

Your claim was processed under buyer complaint not protection, this was a well know glitch that was coming to an end around this time. Obviously some ebayers were not aware as the ebayer boards were full of similar complaints, I too had the same issue. It needed to be appealed and they would of paid out, they have since, stopped this from happening:)
But protection is now much better it's 100% if you follow the rules, just paying through the listing basically.

cheers for the updated advice.
#37
once again more problems with ebay, i don't just seem why people won't spend a few quid more, buy it from a retailer which will have a 6,12,24 month warranty. Ebay in this day and age just isnt worth the money anymore...
#38
so have you bought it or not?
