Bought a tv from a charity shop Saturday, was shocked at how bad the picture was in comparison to some other tvs I have had, but I think its a tv model about 10 years old so maybe thats why.

But thats not all on the left side of the screen(about 1/10th of the screens worth) anything on it is blurry as if its out of focus and on the right side its the same but not as bad.

Its only noticable mainly on games but It is a issue since I play rpgs a lot so would have to sit close and squint to read writing at the corners.

I got it from a charity shop but not a normal one, its the type where its furniture only and not that cheap and they give you proper receipts and take payment by card etc.

thats a difficult one, but am sure they must still adhere to proper trading rules - why dont u call them up first

They should have tested it before selling it, so you should have a right to return with the receipt.

they can sell electricals, although they test them with a special meter for safety, and have to make other safety inspections, they probably didnt have an aerial or any other source to check the picture, just fired it up, saw the snow, and thought it was ok

supposing i paid more than a small amount (and im sure you did for this) I would return it, and they will refund you

I think you should call them & discuss the problem to see if they can resolve it, if they offer a refund take it & try your local Freecycle to see if anyone is giving away a TV :)

C'mon, a tenner from a charity shop, and you expect perfection, get real.

I am sure the TV is acceptable if being used to watch TV on it.
#10
if its only really noticeable on games I would guess that the resolution of the tv just cannot handle the games you are playing, you did say it was around 10 years old, if it works fine as a tv then I think it would be unfair to return it. If however it's useless as a tv then yes I would return it without any hesitation.:-D

If it was a fifteen quid or less then I'd let the charity keep the money and either use the tv or dispose or it. Any more and I would think about phoning them up and talking to someone about the issue rather than just turning up asking for a refund without knowing their policy first.

Who said it was a tenner?

It is acceptable just not very good, starts out clear in the centre and in both directions gets cloudier/blurrier it is hard to read text in corners.

So its usable just not very good quality!

Give them a call - I'm sure they would rather have happy customers who return with more business in the future, and they may even have another one you can swap it for. Worst that can happen is they say no returns.

Whever it be £3 or £3000, I would take it back.

Well nobody in their right mind would pay more than a tenner for a ten year old TV would they?... Freecycle is littered with them.

The TV is in working order, it isn't brand new, so you cannot expect perfection.

I dont know its age but I know I had a tv that was pretty much the same 9 years ago and it was an old model then.

I also go by that as it didnt have a S-VHS socket and not many settings on menu.

I paid £35 for it and the local freecycle you get about 1 post a week on it as its a small town.

If I paid £10 for it I wouldnt have a problem as would just use it for a spare.

I'd take it back without a doubt!
