Would ypu get a 3G iPhone if you got a 30% discount?

I work for a company that (as a large user) is given a staff discount scheme to pass t o employees.

That discount is 30% - which isnt a bad discount.

Anyway - there are exclusions. XDA, iPhone and Simplicity were always excluded from the discount. (Its not rigidly enforced - my 600 mins / 1000 text and unlimited internet cost me £17.50 Sim only.)

With the release of the iPhone today, I was very surprised to see that the iPhone is part of this discount scheme.

I'm even considering it..... but think the HTC Diamond Touch is just too cool to pass over.

Anyone else think 30% discount on the iPhone tariff too good to pass - or is the HTC phone THE phone to go for?

I think you should see money as no object, get both, walk round with them clipped to your belt with a bluetooth headset in each ear.........

That just oozes coolness.

Hmmm. I doubt I'll be doing that!

get the iphone - the htc diamond will plumit in price faster than the iphone and you could purchase later if you wanted it .
Then you could flog the iphone for some profit / break evens.

I think this is very much a personal choice, my preference is towards HTC/S60 (use an E90 at the moment) although I wouldn't opt for a Diamond - if going for this type of model it would need to have the slide out qwerty keyboard.

I got my diamond today. It is very nice. My girlfriend has an iPhone, but they are just too big for me. The Diamond is nice and compact.

I have the kaiser ATM and had a Hermes before. I never used the keyboard - and find its a bit of a pain in the backside as it often slides open slightly and lights up. It looks nice, but for me its not as functional as I'd hoped.

The only downer I see on the diamond is the lack of micro SD slot. Not only does it limit memory, but means transferring files can be pretty slow going through active sync.

For me it has to be the iPhone especially with the push email etc on firmware 2.0 release.

HTC phones are always more fully featured, but IMO performance issues cripple their functionality(not HTCs fault, WM is a bloated load of **** lol). I use my vario iii occasionally, but quickly swap back to my iphone.

And yes I would get it with 30% discount - if you dont, can I have your discount??? :)

To be fair, Ive not really had many issues with my Kaiser. But I do know what you mean. And I did think that the iPhone was supposed to be not as quick as people made out!

He he. I get 6 per year! Ive already given 3 away - and I'm gonna use another for whichever I go for. I have a feeling my 2 nephews are gonna grab the other 2! Soz about that.... But you would have been welcome to one otherwise!

Haha no worries was joking anyways but if you ever do get a freebie.....:)

In my experience, the iphone just works. I think the killer for me is that the iphone is a better PHONE than any WM device - hated making and answering calls on the kaiser!!!

I'll bare you in mind if they dont want to take it up!

When I was with t-mobile with the Hermes, I kecp having to send it back. There were problems with the signal being lost - or more to the point, good signal - but calls not being received. They eventually gave me a free upgrade to a Kaiser. That doesnt seem to have these issues, though signal strengh does still appear to be poor.

I'm now on O2. At home my misses gets 5 bars on her SE580i, yet the Kaiser is only mid strength.

When you say it functions better as a phone, do you mean it in performance ways? ie it does get good signal strengh and works well without dropping calls in lesser areas? Thats obviously pretty important.

I know that changing the radio in the HTC devices does have a massive influence on this and I'm thinking I may just need to change mine to perform better on a different frequency to the one t-mobile uses.

I mean I always have issues with the kaiser cutting off calls, or losing signal for no apparent reason(havent moved location for example). Also, the software and hardware are less reliable - I've had about 5 different htc phones, and every one has had to go back at least once.

Problem is, I think its difficult to judge, as I have only used both with T-Mobile, and their signal strength is generally pretty appalling. But certainly less dropped calls with iphone, better signal generally and easier to make/receive calls.

Admittedly I've stopped using Windows mobile devices as I do think it needs a grounds up rewrite to address the fact that the platform is now almost exclusively used for combined phone and PDA devices rather than standalone PDAs as it was originally. Hence my current choice is Series60, I didn't like it originally but in its third release I think Nokia have finally sorted it producing a device which integrates phone and PDA sides smoothly with its core functions working well but allowing a large degree of functionality.

Oh well.

I finally did it today.....Bought the 16GB iphone on a £45pm contract (discounted to £31.50), which I will downgrade to the £35pm one (discounted to £24.50) after nine months. Works out cheaper to do it this way.

Nice gadget, but not overly impressed with it ATM.

The signal fluctuations are still there, yet my missus SE580i is rock solid in the same location. Hmmmm!!!!

The iphone is alot better once you have jailbreaked it.

Can download loadsa programs that are easy to download. atm i would say the mxtube is my favourite application, you can download any youtube video and store it on the phone. Once the iphone is unlocked you can do much more to it
