Is it wrong to celebrate Valentines day?

Can someone explain to me why people celebrate Valentines day and where it says in the bible or any other religious book that you should celebrate this day?

ok just found this below! Read!

St. Valentine’s Day originates from the ancient paganism of this Satan-influenced world. It is designed to deceive mankind by appealing to fleshly, carnal desires—or, as the Bible calls them, the works of the flesh. “Now the works of the flesh are manifest [made obvious], which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry…drunkenness, revellings, and such like” (Gal. 5:19-21). Do any of these sound like Lupercalia to you?

Ultimately, “they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” A true Christian is focused on God’s soon-coming kingdom (Matt. 6:33) and the world to come—not on the fleshly cravings of this world. A true Christian must strive to “put off the old man” and actively imitate the perfect, righteous example of Jesus Christ. A Christian knows that he must actively come out of this world, out of its pagan-infested customs, practices and traditions.

Christians do not celebrate St. Valentine’s Day!

Another spin (_;)

The first representation of Saint Valentine appeared in the Nuremberg Chronicle (1493); alongside the woodcut portrait of Valentine, the text states that he was a Roman priest martyred during the reign of Claudius II, known as Claudius Gothicus. He was arrested and imprisoned upon being caught marrying Christian couples and otherwise aiding Christians who were at the time being persecuted by Claudius in Rome. Helping Christians at this time was considered a crime. Claudius took a liking to this prisoner – until Valentinus tried to convert the Emperor – whereupon this priest was condemned to death. He was beaten with clubs and stoned; when that failed to kill him, he was beheaded outside the Flaminian Gate. Various dates are given for the martyrdom or martyrdoms: 269, 270, or 273.[10] The official Roman Martyrology for February 14 mentions only one Saint Valentine.

Sir valentine was a person who used to kill muslims, that's why mulsims are not supposed to celebrate valentines day.

You forget Gradndparents day in Sept.............a very recent invention by card companies, look it up.

I believe most of these celebrations to be similar. Bible has no meaning to me

We should always celebrate Valentines day. If we don't, how else are the card makers and choclatiers gonna make money between christmas and Easter? :)

Valentines day sucks for single people because on this day they realize how lonely they really are!

Yes, for a lot of people this is one of the worst days of the year. :(

I'm in a north london houseshare but the girls managed to arrange three timeslots for the living room/dining room the three main couples here could use it for dinner.
With a strict ban on watching top gear which started 34mins ago, I just hope iplayer isn't slow again.

I wouldn't say we're all "celebrating it" just using it as an excuse to spend more time with each other.

If it makes you happy to celebrate it then celebrate it!
If not...don't. Seems simple enough to me.

That's not true, I use it as an excuse to spoil myself. Bought myself some nice gifts from the body shop, boots from clarks, champers and chocs from morrisons and will probably have take away tomorrow. If I was with a bloke I'd have spent the money on him so as I'm not, I may as well show myself how much I love me. :),

A lot of things are based on pagan rituals. Christmas, for example.

Its all just got a bit to commercialised like everything else ie - xmas, easter, hallowean, bonfire night .........its all another money making scheme , especially for struggling buisness, ( and cant blame them ) but whilst people are buying then these people are going to continue making these cards etc !.....each to there own imo , i think valentines is more for the young ones and singletons <3

Do you really think people only show their love for each other one day a year??! lol

As someone else said celebrate it if you want to and if you don't then don't, simple really.
Oh and for those saying it costs loads.. it doesn't have to, I think partners are much happier with a thoughtful gift/card/idea than an expensive one.

Well I have had a meal cooked for me and loads of pressies, so gets thumbs up from me :)

paganism is nothing to do with satanism. And as someone else said, if we were to not celebrate pagan influenced festivals, there wouldnt be a lot a Christian holidays left.

As an atheist, not into any isms. Don't care what the holiday is for. I just make sure I enjoy them.
