Not me. Seemed like a daft idea anyway :)

Am scared of the dark and back in the 70's the electric used to go off due to the strikes, was awful, so am not doing it, apart from all else I cannot type in the dark.
#3
nah. pointless gesture anyway.
#4
I did.......Then lit a couple of hundred candles:-D
#5
Ps I have the low energy light bulbs, so am doing my bit.
#6
a couple of champagne socialist lefty tree huggers probably switched off the fan light in their conservatories for 45 mins to appease some sort of guilt complex.

I switched my wall lights on while I watched tv on my computer. pah

Uswitch to Scottish power, but they won't ask nicely for you to turn your lights off.;-)

What they could have just done is told the power stations to switch off for an hour, then there wouldn't be a choice lol. unless someone gets out some generator powered floodlights

Big old con isn't it?

I'm all for doing my bit to save the planet. But I feel a bit cheated that they do it on the night the clocks go forward so of course everyone is going to be using less electricity as they'll go to bed early!!

It also allows them to say that between midday Saturday and midday Sunday there was less electricity used than usual, well of course there is, there are only 23 hours in that time period when there are usually 24!!!
#22
Agree I also do what I can for the enviroment but sitting in the dark ain't on the cards.
#23
OFF ....... :?

so it wasn't turn all ya lights ON for an hour ..............

Well fortunately it would be pointed out immediately that it was a 23 hour period, by yourself if nobody else ;) Instead they will probably do 00:00 Saturday morning to 00:00 saturday night, alas to monitor power usage in this way is not accurate anyway.

I wish they had done something slightly different and said; this week, try your best, without changing your lifestyle, to use less energy. If you do so, make sure that you sign up so we know numbers. That way a measurable amount of energy would have been saved (and therefore CO2 emissions etc.) and it would have been reported that x people over a week saved x and y without changing their lifestyle.

OK, turning off lights raises the profile but it's not an energy saving technique.

Even so, the energy saving for the hour that is missing is done by people going to bed an hour early on the Saturday night. So even though there are 24 hours there is still effectively an hour less in that time frame too.

Agree with the rest though, I wonder how much co2 is produced in advertising earth hour?

It's wouldn't be too difficult to work out, but shame people probably haven't.

I see now, they should have separated it from yesterday then.

It was on the same day last year, it's such a shame that something that could make a difference is done like this so people are mislead.
