nae onions Brendan

Have you tried calling up MS?

as with another thread im sure your covered under the implied terms.

Section 14(2) Implied Terms -

Section 14: the goods must be of “satisfactory quality” – that is, they should meet the standard that a reasonable person would regard as “satisfactory”. Also, if the buyer says they’re buying the goods for a particular purpose, there’s an implied term that the goods are fit for that purpose.

There is a euro law that states that all electrical items are covered by a european 2 year guarantee.
www.euro-meter.eu/warrenty.html don't know if this helps. only just heard about it.

Or crack it open and give the old optics a good clean, Including the spiralling track which moves the lens forwards and back.
Dirt collects in the grooves and prevents it moving to and from correctly, Also lubricate it with some grease after cleaning.
It's a common problem with optical drives, Especially game consoles.
I've had the same problem and also friends have had the same problem in the past.

It's worked every time.

Dont open it up! you`ll invalidate your warranty totally - Xbox 360s are covered by a 1 yr warranty BUT they are now offering a 3 yr warranty on the 3 red light problem that commonly occurs with them - so what you need to do is go to the microsoft xbox 360 website -register your console (you`ll need the number off the back) then report it faulty as showing the red lights on startup -they wont question you or anything and will arrange a courier to pick it up and will send you either a new (refurbished) one or change all the innards of your one and send it back to you -they do this generally within 10 days start to finish, I`ve done it over 10 times now with broken xboxes I`ve bought and it always works as long as they haven't been opened up breaking the warranty seal or flashed to play copied games.

Worse case scenario is they`ll send it back to you free of charge unrepaired so you have nothing to lose.

And to the person who commented to "towell it" thats only good for overheating the console to make the 3 red light problem temporarily go away its no good for a worn out laser which is what this problem will be.

Take it back to the retailer, my old xbox died of e74 before it was covered in the rrod warranty, took a bit of arguing and a phone call to head office but quoting this "Section 14: the goods must be of “satisfactory quality” – that is, they should meet the standard that a reasonable person would regard as “satisfactory”. Also, if the buyer says they’re buying the goods for a particular purpose, there’s an implied term that the goods are fit for that purpose" saw I got a new one.
