i see that they do core bundles, but not sure what this is all about,
we dont want to go over the top as between his brothers and sisters, they have way to many pc's and game consoles.

and thanks in advance!

Does he want to play on xbox live?

I'd still say the 20GB one anyway.

you want the "PRO" or "Premium" package, this comes with a 20GB HDD. www.shopto.net do them for £215 with a game. If you wait closer to xmas, you could get a cheaper price

I heard argos have a good deal too.

a bundle is where you get a couple of games with the console, the games you get are quite cheap in comparison to buying the console on its own and then buying the games seperately.

xbox live, allows you to connect your xbox to the internet and play games with other people.

I think im right in saying there are three types of xbox 360s. there is the core version, premium and elite. I think there are only slight differences between them, ie some have more memory on them compared to others.

anyhow getting back to the x boxes think i will get him the bundle in argos, seems a good price and deal. so thanks again:thumbsup:

if he doesnt want to use live then id say xbox arcade bundles are there available with memory cards and wireless controller from argos 180 i think from the top of my head.

If the bundle doesnt come with 2 controllers (presuming his sister will want to play) then you can buy them in a bundle with forza 2 and a wireless controller from Pcworld for 29.99 or buy a wireless controller for £17.99 from dvd.co.uk.

The Argos deal has finished. I think the best deal at the moment is probably the shopto one mentioned by Harvie (Amazon etc have the Arcade for £190 but for £25 more its worth getting the premium and game from Shopto)

There are 4 versions of the Xbox 360 around at the moment. The console (ie the box bit) is essentially the same for all 4 versions except for hard disk.

Cheapest is the core, shopto are doing them for £175. Disadvantage of the core is you only get a composite lead to connect to your telly, a wired controller (not wireless) and no hard disk. If you are going to connect the xbox to a HD LCD TV then you can use the composite lead but you'd get a better picture with a component. Third party component leads can be purchased for £5 - £15. Having no hard disk means you can't save any games so you would have to buy a memory card for the xbox.

Next cheapest is the Arcade - the is the same as the Core (and I think it is replacing the core) - but you get a wireless controller (instead of wired) and a memory card. You also get some Arcade games but these are basic and shouldn't really be taken into consideration.

Next up is the Premium (or Pro). You get a 20gb hard disk (for saving games, downloading demos etc) wireless controller, component lead for tv. These are around the £220 to £250 mark.

If money no object - there is the Elite which is essentially the same as the Pro but with a 120gb hard disk and it comes in black.

Couple of things to think about - the newer consoles have a HDMI connection on the consol - this makes it easier to connect HD TVs. There should be a logo saying HDMI on the back of the box, near the base. So try and pick one of those -even if you don't have a use for it now the resale value will be higher.

Other thing is reliability - the failure rate can be high - if you buy from a shop like Game, Argos, Woolies at least you can always take it back to the shop. Game and Argos have a scheme where you can take out an extra warranty which is cheaper than the MS (£60) warranty.

Any more questions please ask.....

If your son wants to play on the xbox with his mates you'll need an additional controller - I think Tesco do wired ones for £15. The best deal recently was the Argos deal where you got a premium, 2 recent games and a mega pak (included additional controller, steering wheel pedals etc). One poster mentioned they may be doing this deal again before Xmas - might be worth ring head office and asking
