X Clamp Fix

My xbox got the 3 red lights and becasue it has no warranty sticker because its been flashed so I cant get it repaired so I tried to do it myself. The first thing I did was the towel trick this worked for like a day then 3 red lights again so I did it again and it worked then same again next day 3 red lights again so I thought screw this and bought the xclamp fix. I did the x clamp fix and after I did it it turned on then it went mad and made so much noise like it was at 100 degrees. Then I get the 2 red lights so I thouhgt just leave it like you do for towel trick and will be all good. So I wait an hour then plug it in now im getting 3 red lights straight away the power brick light stays orange and I get it. The fans dont even move or xbox start to load. Whereas before and like i have seen on vids you turn it on green light comes on powerbrick then like 10 seconds you get the 3red lights but now as soon as i turn xbox on boom 3 reds. So it would be impossible to overheat again because i cant even get any proper power. I have tighened the heat sink screws as much as I can taken the motherboard apart with heat sinks and put them back together but still nothing.

Do you just think its been overheated too much it just wont even load now and that I should just move on and get a new one?

I thought the idea of the towel was if you had something go wrong that wasn't covered on the RROD extended warranty, you wrapped it up, left it on overnight to deliberately overheat it to CAUSE RROD then send it back to get the whole lot fixed

Learn something new every day :)

I have never herd of people doing that people normally just do it to try and get it working again. And like I said im not covered under warranty so not really relevant.

Move on...this is probably toast by now.

The towel trick is one of the worst things you can do - everything inside heats up, including the components you don't want heated up.

At no point in your post did you mention what the secondary error code was when you started. There's no point in doing anything like X-clamp replacement unless you know what you're actually trying to fix. the 3 RoL error code covers a heap of errors.

get a new one. its almost certainly beyond repair.
i've had success with a similar method to the towel trick. what i do is to open up the console. do the x-clamp mod but not tighten the screws. i then remove the fans from the chassis and leave them sitting alongside the console. i then cover just the gpu heatsink with a small towel or flannel. i turn it on and wait for the overheat. once its there i remove the mobo and tighten the screws. i've done this on 3 machines and not had a bounce yet. the first one i did was about 18 months ago and its still going strong
