I don't I think it's rather sad.
My friend is addicted, and playes games he normally wouldn't to gain the points.
Let alone searching online to find guides to get the full points, spending a lot more time on a game than he normally would.
But then he is a little OCD with a lot of things and has loads of free time on his hands.
Then he'll check his points against his friends, I think it's all pretty sad really. Just shows that you play a lot of xbox. Fair enough if you do though, but he will play some games he has no interest in, which I think is a real waste of time.

Each to their own really. I play for escapism / fun. I get bored quite quickly and more and more these days I feel quilty for playing xbox as I feel like I should be exploring the world. Wow, I went off on one there!!

My mates are like it. They laugh at my gamerscore, except when I then kick their ass at the game!!!

It does extend the longetivity in some games though.

Juck carefully hack them by attaching the HDD to a PC.
Just selected, bit by bit, so you don't get reported or detected..

This disease is spreading like swine flu, I would say i have contracted a different strain to most, I don't have an urge to go out and rent king kong, avatar, FN Round 3 and other achievement games, but the games I do buy, I insist I finish them......... Therefore I play my games a long time, and will easily play for hours for just one hard achievement (Namely Mile High Club, took me like 4 hours) I don't think it spoils the gaming experience, but don't skip things like cutscenes and what not just to make it go quicker....... Achievements are FUN. End of.

I only have 14k Gamer score, Lower than most, average in my friends list.

Good to see female gamers, not enough. I may even start a campaign for more female gamers! Any names for this campaign?

I used to have a good game score and changed xbox to the elite and it wouldn't let me take my gamertag with me... long story, in the end made up a new profile... I tend to get competitive more with my pals and if we have the same game, I try to get a better gamerscore than them lol.... Not really bothered otherwise as it's not like you get anything for having loads of gamer points lol

I agree theres no prizes etc. There was none of this malarkey with the ps2 etc, bring back the good old days of manic miner, bruce lee etc Anyone know the title of the spectrum 48k bruce lee title or was it just bruce lee?

Its just a bragging thing. However I like to try and get as many achivements as possible during and after I have completed the games.
It just extends the life of a game, esp when I enjoy a game lots and theres northing else to do.

wud be awesome if u cud convert the gamerscore into microsoft points.

Thats a good idea, not point for point but for every 1000 gamerscore you get 100 microsoft points!

there is a HUKD automated gamer score league table somewhere - can't remember where though I only looked at it once - the day I joined it.

edit - there must be 2 - I just found this one but it's not the one I joined?

True.
Although I remember my friend was playing fallout 3 and was online looking at the walkthrough and playing the game just so he could get the last few achievements. He did actually say it was just time consuming, but he felt more "complete to see the full achivements on his gamer tag.
I guess if you're really bored and you care about it it will appeal to you.

E-peen for geeks lol.

I just enjoy games.

I play the game for the game but also go for achievements as well - Gives some games an extra purpose and a reason to actually complete them 100% or to collect certain things etc. It can be a slog, but I guess it's the satisfaction of having completed it that's good.

I still haven't got 1000 on WaW though, so difficult to shoot 40 Japs down -.-

In conclusion I'm a bit of both.

that was the last one i had to get (before the DLC) took a good few attempts just aim for the planes and dont shoot anything else best to do it on easy

Achievements can be good if they encourage people to try new aspects of a game they wouldn't normally have tried. Left 4 Dead is a decent example of this.

However, poorly chosen achievements can be almost as bad as stats in a multiplayer game as many people will go after them rather than working with their team and can wreck story pacing or make the gameplay less fun in a singleplayer game.

Every game that comes with achievements should definitely have an option to hide them (keep registering them, but don't show the notifications and disable the menu).
#25
Personally I play games once through without any regards to the achievements. After completion, I re-visit the game, trying to get all the remaining achievements. I think the achievements add to the games, making me want to play a game a second time when I wouldn't normally. I get satisfaction seeing 1000/1000 by a game, plus you normally see aspects of the game you wouldn't see in your first play through.

i love achievements. I really do, it adds to the excitement of playing a game, yes i have played games for easy points, but its more of a why not situation due to having love film. cant say ive ever used my gamerscore (i think its about 23k as an E-*****.

I get great satisfaction out of working towards achievements and getting them. Particularly Arcade games. i got 200/200 on Hexic HD (that puzzle game you get free on the xbox when you buy it.) Now that i got hooked to and started playing the game at a different/much higher level than 90% of people would spending hours trying to get this achievement (Grand Pearl Pooh Bah)

if something extends your enjoyment of something how can it be a bad thing?
