I will be looking for an Xbox 360 on here, A flashed version just to play offline games. But before I do can anyone explain what the different types of chipped, flashed Xboxes I'll encounter, what to go for and what to avoid. Also what are wave games?

Any help appreciated.

flashing is most common, they put custom FW on the chip on the dvd drive, mod chips are rare, but so i here offer more protection when playing online

Game waves: Each game has the latest xbox live update installed on the disc,(obvioulsy this is changing as M$ add more updates so wave1, wave2 etc...) the ixtreme FW has built in protection to prevent you from being banned online (I didn't help as everyone i know whith a flash drive got banned)

It basically checks the disc to make sure it matches the correct wave and if it doesnt it wont play the game

if your playing offline get ixtreme 1.61 or LT it does not check the waves

@h04x i know plenty of people who have flashed xbox solely for offline and i'm sure we buy more games than most, this allows us to beta/demo the game before buying.

so many times we have bought games that look brilliant in the trailer and excellent reviews only to be a pile of plop.

however most will not do this and will just rip off the game devs

A valid point.

However I can't afford to buy every game that takes my fancy.

For example for the PC, I downloaded a cracked version of MW2 didn't like it so deleted it.

Downloaded Battlefield Bad Company2 liked it and have just bought it, did same for Dawn of War 2 recently.

I don't play many games so the last thing I want is are games which I don't like.

Secondly I have young kids who also play games and leave them lying around, I also have a PS3 and have just binned Little Big Planet and Fifa 09, due to misuse which I paid over £25 each for, now if only I could have had backup copies of them!
