Xbox 360 advise wanted. Do I get a core or premium? Maybe even a ps3?

Anybody know of any deals on a 360?

I want a new console for my 10 year old son.

Will the core system be ok or will I wish I bought a premium?

He will mostly play car games, I do not need blu ray dvd and would prefer cheaper games so I dont think he would be better with a ps3?

He has an original xbox and a gc so it will be his first next gen console.

Also he has no hdtv but an old large one.

I know this has been discussed before but my searches dont seem to come up with much!

Any advice will be appreciated and repped accordingly.

Dont buy a core, they arent as functional as the premium. You will want a hard drive to save content.

Get the premium and save yourself the hassle of getting a hard drive at a later date.

Is is just an additional hard drive to make it premium?

IMHO you are better off getting the Premium. As well as allowing him to save more game files and other things, IIRC you need the Hard Drive in order to play original Xbox games on the system.

I think the best Premium deal right now is at Play. See this thread

The only thing I have needed the extra space on my hard drive rather than amemory card is to save extra maps I bought for COD4...bit of a waste of money in my opinion...

I think the premium if he will be online if not an arcade will do. There are not that many car games on the 360 - pgr + burnout + forza motorsport. I would go with a ps3 for gt5.

Ive only got about 2gb left. That will go soon as you will be able to put movies, pics and music onto your console in the next update (hopefully).

get the premium. its pretty much the best of the 3 now seeing as they have the hdmi port on the back. the core/arcade is great if you never plan to save many games or plan to download arcade games or demo's or movies or anything really. the elite is nice is you like black and want the larger hdd but no point unless you plan to download everything off xbox live or plan to copy all your cd's onto it. i had the premium and never got close to filling it up in the year i had it. and i downloaded pretty much anything from xbox live.

The PS3 doesn't have any extra than the xbox though does it? Motorsport, F1 and gt5 and what else? (Genuine question, not trying to start a war :) )

The new MGS as well I think if you like that sort of thing will be on the PS3 only for the while.

So go for a ps3 with only 1 car game lol?

Racedriver GRID is out in 2 weeks time which looks very good. Go for the 360 premium, you won't regret it.

You need to get your boy to try and play a PS3 before going to buy one as I still hate trying to play them as the controllers are so light and not well made for playing games in my opinion where as the XBOX controllers are hevier and I find the buttons just mould around your fingers so your hands do not feel so big but for a 10 year old he probabbly wont have that issue.

And I have nothing against the PS3 it is a good system but I just do not find the gameplay good due to the controllers.

under NO circumstances get a Core.... No HD capabilities, no HDMI port and wired controllers.....Minimum you want is Arcade which is exactly the same as Premium without 20GB Hard Drive (and no headset included) but does come with a memory card. Wireless controller included too

What about all the other racing games for 360?
XBOX 360- 38 Titles

PS3 - 28 Titles

There are loads, not all great but neither are the ones on PS3 and what about all the exclusives you can download on 360?
To be honest mate I was a PS2 fanboy...bought 360 and best decision I have made..... Gears alone worth the cash!
