there is newer firmware out now i believe, but they did go through a period of all getting banned!

they dont get cought with ease if its the new version i dont know anyone banned yet but they will catch up eventually if its older version yeah youl be caught with ease tho

It is fairly easy with most, but I havent bothered updating mine as it doesnt touch a network cable, so it is fine for me.

I also do this.

I play backups offline with the Xbox unplugged from the router (so I can't accidentally go online whilst a backup is in the disk drive) and only play original games online.

I doubt this will protect me 100% but if Microsoft employ a method of detecting backups where it scans the disk whilst you play online, I'll at least be safe from that. If their method is checking the disk offline and storing the result ("found copy" or "didn't find copy") which is then relayed to the MS server when you go online, then my console will probably end up being banned when MS 'overtake' the makers of the hacked drive firmware and come up with a detection algorithm that can detect drives with the latest, 'safe' hacked firmware.

You can't rely on playing backups offline only to protect you. The only way to avoid a banning is to never play a backup full stop.
