I've recently discovered that I can play some old xbox games on the xbox 360 so long as you have updated your console. However I don't own any xbox games so i was wondering if there was a way of dowloading them (legally?) onto a dvd and playing them that way?

while browsing the web for the answer i found out you could also pay for a membership fee and have unlimited downloads on certain websites for xbox360 games, sounds too good to be true, anyone know what the catch is?

You have to have the original xbox game or the other option is on xbox live you can download xbox originals which are slowly being released. Putting any of them on a dvd after download will more than likely lead to your flashed console being banned from live

i've never used live and wont do for a while i think, so at worst that isnt much of a problem. how would live detect the use of downloaded games?

Well you need to download the bit of software and burn it to disc

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardscompatibility.htm#disc

also this only allows xbox originals to be played your 360.

To play copied burnt xbox or xbox360 games you need to flash your xbox dvd drive with some unofficial firmware, however doing so is illegal and if your caught playing copied games on Live! you will be banned but if Live doesnt really matter to you then go for it.

It just does. Microsoft are clever. If your consoles been 'upgraded', Live recognises this when you log in and then bans your account.

I prefer to give retailers and games companies the money they deserve to make their living from. Trade your old games for the cheapest, legal option. You can do it on this site.

its not worth it to play xbox games, just buy real games like evrybody else, theres not much point in a 360 without live

You can download the updates to CD/DVD which increase the number of supported games, although Microsoft now offer the facility to download the games I think you're best just picking the actual games up cheaply.

i just play with mates when they come round, im very disapointed in seeing that out of all my games, only halo 3 allows a 4 player game... all the racing games won't allow it.

i want to play xbox games as some of them are really fantastic.

if only i could play goldeneye on the xbox :P that would be my dream

im on budget at the mo so cant really spend money on games. got the fhm mag so should get the assassins creed game but aparently thats taking ages to get delivered?

If you want to play Xbox games you need to pay for them. if that's what you're asking - these sites with a membership fee to download games are just ripping you off as all they're doing is giving you access to torrents or other forms of peer to peer systems.

If you hunt around ebay you should be able to pick the Xbox games you're after for a couple of quid delivered as there's not much demand for them now they're last gen.
