you just need to make sure you have internet connection. Either wireless (which you will need the wifi dongle thing) or through a normal ethernet cable.
once you set it up - it should automatically recognise an internet connection and you will then set yourself up on XBOX live.
This is what you have 3 months subscription to.

Hope it helps

ive got wireless at home so in order for him to play online and for me to still be able to surf the net he needs a "wifi dongle thing"? and where can i get that from?
#3
60 quid from pretty much all video game stores including blockbuster.
#4
the console comes with an ethernet cable, you could plug that into the back of your wireless router.

but the routers on the middle floor of the house and he will have the xbox in his room which is on the top floor so its too far to be trailing cables

agreed

or even in to the back of a PC

May be cheaper to use Homeplugs rather than the 360 Wireless Adapter..you can get the 360 wireless adapters for around £40 now I believe...there was a post the other week I think

cripes this isnt working out cheap!

if you don't mind running a wire from your router just get a longer ethernet cable. The one in the xbox is only a metre long. I got a 20 metre one running from downstairs, just stick it under the carpet lol

It is expensive agreed but the console is cheaper than the others so a cost is got back from somewhere, anywho it works very well and saves having to trail wires under carpets etc. The ethernet over power kits are ok but they are 40 quid plus the cost of a long ethernet cable, you may as well save the hassle and get the wireless dongle.

IMO

if you dont want to trail the cable then you are going to have to buy a wireless connector. You can get them for about 50 quid now i think, and if you have a look on ebay im sure they will be cheaper.
Otherwise its a cable which would be a lot cheaper unless you put the router in your sons room?
(You get the cable in the box but its only a couple of metres long at most)

chatted up grandad and he is going to go into one of the games shops and pick him up the wirless bit needed,he can wait for a longer subscription for the thing, that has to be 100 days of washing ups worth lol

here is the wireless part if you want to get it online.

Also noticed it is 54.99 at HMV, so if you know anyone with a student discount card then you can save a further 5.50...dont suppose grandad has a student card does he? lol.

I don't think they do. But there are always students in there, so if you just collar one and take them to the till with you then you will get it.

Cheapest place to get a wireless adaptor now is game.
http://www.game.co.uk/Xbox360/Hardware/Accessory/~r327033/Xbox-360-Wireless-Adapter/
Add it to your basket and it will cost £59.99. The search for 'dvd wrap'. Add one of the 99p dvd wraps to the basket. Price should now be now be £45.98. Go to checkout and in the offer code box enter NW10GME09. This will take a further £3 off leaving a total price of £42.98 for the adaptor and a dvd wrap.

You connect a whole bunch together?
#26
i got a "pre-owned" one from Blockbuster last week (some old dear had bought it for her son (the BB store manager) but they didnt have wireless so he had traded it in against some games with his discount) and it had all the packaging and was unused and they only charge £29.99.
It works like a dream !
