Xbox 360 E74 error!!!! Better off with a ps3?

Had my Xbox just under 2 years now and got the E74 message last night, have followed the proceedure and will now send it away next week for repair. A guy in work got his Xbox 6 months after me and has now had the red ring of death for the 3rd time and has just sent his away for repair again. Going by what ive been reading, it seems that you very rarely get more than 36 months out of an Xbox before it breaks down.

Would i be better to just cut my losses and get a PS3?, considering that when the Xbox comes back, it could well be going back for another repair within 6 months again?

Anyone else had a lot of bother with the Xbox?

Nope, mines never had RROD

yes, i fixed it myself though as it was over a year old so there was no warranty to void. if youre good with a screwdriver then its simple!

I guess it partly depends on how much you've spent on xbox games and accesories. Loads of pro and cons for both systems. The ps3 is probably more reliable than the xbox but you do only get a 12 month warranty compared to microsoft's 3 year warranty.

It's not costing you anything to keep the xbox going back and fourth if you want the problem solved invest in a new chipset one of the elites, though I do believe the new ones they send you/replacements are a better chipset and are not as prone as the old ones to RROD, I had one but sold it.

Wouldn't go down the PS3 route as you will only be disapointed if its pure gaming your after, all my bros had a PS3 including mine, mine is mainly used for blu-rays and the odd realise only on the PS3, Xbox is my main gaming console, controller is a big plus as it was built for someone with hands rather then claws.

Get the system that has the most exclusive games you want to play...

I couldn't do without Gears Of War... I seem to be pretty much on my own preferring the Ps3 pad over the xbox one though? Any QTE sequence on the xbox and i'm b*ggered... 'which ones y again..?... too late!'

Mind took about a week (bet they fit a new CD drive to it)- alternatively buy a new one and sell the old one when it comes back.

Not particularly... Your're right though, I did add triggers to the ps3 one. I prefferred the original MASSIVE xbox one to the 360 one. Didn;t like the N64 pad either and that was voted greatest pad ever...

Dreamcast roolz... :p

Hehe, your just not going with the masses, still love the N64 pad for shooters, though movements a little limited for todays shooters.

well theres good xbox deals but you will be missing out on ps3 exclusive like uncharted, god of war, gran turismo.

xbox's exclusive lineup isnt looking impressive

Whilst that's partly true with the exception of Alan Wake for which you could counter Heavy Rain, I still don't think the PS3 has anything to touch Gears of War for single player and left for dead for multiplayer.

my 360 died last year although I had it for a couple of years (2006) I never really played it much till last year when I started playing oblivion for like 6 hours a day for 2 months straight I got hit by the 3 rrod.....since its now out of warranty I dont fancy paying for repair....I'll just borrow a mates 60gb ps3 that hes had since launch and it still works perfect! I still have my 60gb ps3 but its still sealed in the box...gonna ebay it or something and get a slim.

I swore id never spend £300 on a console that lasts 2 years again but have to admit the new jasper chipset has got me tempted to buy one again.

i got e74 on the release day of fifa 10 when i had my cheap copy from tesco ready to go lol, came back after about ten days. The main thing I have noticed since I have got it back that it takes longer now to start up at the beginning. It has the microsoft page with the X symbol and maybe takes around 30 secs, maybe by making the machine slow itself on start up it helps to eradicate the issue? Seems to be running fine for me anyway.
Ps3 is a good machine, I use mine mainly for blu-ray and media streaming, do my main gaming on the 360.
People complain about RROD etc but tbf microsoft admitted what went wrong and give you the three year, ok its a lil nuisance when it goes wrong but at least you dont have to shell out for a new machine.
