Hi, I have a Xbox 360 Elite and recently ive been getting disk unreadable even on brand new games. Ive only had the system over 14 mths and Microsoft want to charge £82 to get it fixed.
Can any recommend a cheaper way for me to get this sorted.

Hope to hear from you.

Yes do it yourself, It'll just be dirt in the laser track, ( The rail the laser moves up and down ), You just take dvd drive out clean the track with alcohol or similar. Done this many times.

do i need any special screw drivers etc to get at the drive.

trade it in and pay 100 quid for a new xbox, which should be more reliable, bigger HDD and new warranty

you need some torx screws (size 8?) and a pin or paper clip.

Also some anti static stuff to keep you grounded

If it is the drive anyone know anywhere that i can get a replacement and is it a case of taking the old one out and fitting the new one.

Check Fleabay, could be about twenty quid for a new one and I would check which one you have before you bought one:

Nope, You'd have to flash the drive to work as the drive is keyed to the Xbox, You could buy a new drive and swap the laser etc...

Best option would be to clean the track as I suggested, Trust me.

Or just get an identical drive and swap the boards over.

Ive got a 360 that only plays DVD's when I insert a game it tells me to insert it into a xbox 360 to play, anyone know what this is likely to be? If not fixable i'm not fussed as it was gratis and only going to be used to stream media to.
