my mum got me a xbox 360 for christmas, but i decided not to open it right away because i was in the process of buying a hdtv and wanted to wait until i could enjoy the hd value. i managed to finally get the tv i wanted on friday and today decided to set up my 360. just went to switch it on for the 1st time and guess what? it doesnt work:-( and guess what else? i dont have the receipt:-( and yes i have checked that its connected properly, ive been thru it all 3 times - there's just no power going into it, even tho the light is lit on the adaptor thingy. im gutted.

if you have a HDTV and are using the HDTV cable, make sure that the switch on the cable is set to HD rather than standard def.

if however you are using a normal TV with scart adapter, ensure the switch on the cable is set to low def.

hope that helps. if not ill have a think further ..... :)

sometimes the buttons are a bit stiff, especially at first, so you could try pressing a bit harder or taking off the faceplate and pressing the button underneath.

have you tried turning on the xbox 360 with

a) the main power button (pressing vvvvv hard)
b) the remote control (if you have one)
c) a wired controller (if you have one)

also just try it on low def with a scart cable (ensuring the switch is set to low def).

i think the xbox 360s refuse to switch on if they sense a problem with the display i.e. if the cable isnt plugged into the 360 or the cable is plugged incorrectly into the TV.

no worries.

glad it helped :)

PS If you want a different faceplate I have a spare one you can have for free if you cover postage - if your power button continues to stick.
