first you would need to establish would he require a harddrive

if he does then you need to go for a pro at least

if he doesnt you can go for the acarde edition

im sure there are more qualified people on here than me but il give it a try to help you out.

Ok maybe it would be ok to buy the arcade edition and at a later date add a hard drive if required.

Is your internet wireless?

Its all about how much you want to spend.. you could buy the sexy black elite which is the latest 360 has all the bells and whistles or plump for the premium package, which is what i bought
There are plenty of packages for console and a couple of games I did see one for a cod and a footy one .
Also are you planning to have him v you at some games as i sugest another wireless controller.. if you do make sure you have either recharge packs or rechargable batteries.
I cant fault gamestation in my town they were spot on with good advice and didnt try to sell me stuff I didnt want , even after the elite came out they told me to stick with the premiunm
happy days :-D

my son bought the original core system, and purchased a memory card which lasted him a years worth of game play but he only had about 6 games, the hard drives have not come down in price and are still £70 for the 20gb and £120 for the 120gb so if he is going to buy a few games i'd go for the one with the hard drive, also zaavi (used to be virgin) near me have really good deals for 360's including games and accessories so have a look there as well

IMHO I would suggest going for the Premium Package (the one with the wireless controllers and the Hard Drive). This makes for a much better purchase and if he likes call of duty try and get a pack with Call of Duty 4 he will love that online!

Whichever version all you need to play online would be a network cable (only a couple of quid).

The added benefit of the HD is so you can download additional content for games (extra levels, cars and guns etc etc) and watch movies and trailers on your XBOX which you download through XBOX Live.

Trust me there is an awful lot more you can do with this over your PS.

The only downside is to use all the services of the online service (XBOX Live) you need to sign up to the Gold package which is around £35 a year (its worth it though).

Do not buy a core. No matter how simple your gaming needs are, you will use a hard drive in the future.

You get one with the Premium
