My beloved 360 died on me over the weekend, i loaded a game - it made a horrible wirring noise, so i ejected the disc - then tried to reload the disc, but it wont close the tray, just keeps spitting it out. Any suggestions ? This is my 2nd machine, i took the first back to Tescos where i bought it from - but this was back in Feb 07, the year warranty will have expired now. HELP

Can't help with the above fault, but if you get no joy with it - wrap it in a towel & leave it on for a few hours to overheat, this will cause the 3 red lights of death (Microsoft have 3 year warranty to fix this).

try double tapping the eject button, when loading a disc see if it takes the disc without spitting it out, also are any lights flashing on the ring of lights, ie 4 green rings flashing?

No lights flashing at all, machine works fine other than the damn drawer wont go in.

I'd agree

thought it may have gone in to mode b, somehow, maybe hardware glitch, but if theres no lights flashing then I guess not

There's nothing physically obstructing the tray is there? That would prevent it from closing fully?

Nope, nothing - it was fine, loaded a disc - it started to play, then it made a whirring noise - now it wont accept the tray at all, disc or no disc.

Just phoned microsoft, they say £60 to repair, gutted - and its going to take 3 weeks, double gutted......

A new core is only £99 - sell yours as faulty & buy a new one (with another 12 month warranty). Will work out the same price as getting it repaired :)

.......or do what i said above !! Thats Free ;)

Not an all together bad idea..... how much would a faulty 360 get though, not a lot - having said that it works fine online..... Will look into this idea. Where are they selling for £99 new ?
