Right guys i have a few questions that need to have some answers

Was looking to get a xbox 360 to use offline and i have a few questions

1. If you buy a new console and get it modded and use it offline will you get banned if its not connected to the internet for live but play some of the latests games out - eg if i modded the console and played a latest release bought from game ect would i be banned or console resctircted i.e disk containts detection of mods??

2. If i buy a banned console thats been modded can i use any of the new games out originals on the console or will they not work?

3. If it was modded can i play pal and ntsc games like the ps2 modded can

4. if i bought a banned one can i still save games to the hard drive

5. if i bought an arcade can i use any size hard drive for the console?

6. If i have my own games and i wanted to back them up what drive would i need to read them?

7. and to burn the original off to a dual layer + r disk what dvd rw dl drive would i need?

8. any other thinks i should know??

what looking to get a console mainly to play backups as originals starting to get scratched
and this console would not be connected to the internet

*** if i bought a second hand console that doesnt read dvds or games would i just need a new dvd drive for it or would i need it to be matched to 360 eg dvd rom key code on mobo

1. If you don't go online that's fine
2. I believe that's fine, but not to say future releases will detect if the console has been banned (not chipped) and refuse to play
3. not sure
4. no
5. yes
6. not the newer ones
7. not sure
8. if you buy a banned console you won't be able to use as a media centre

All Xbox 360 Consoles are region free anyway, so doesn't matter if modded or not. Unlike Ps2 which was region locked

I thought you didnt know why you got banned?

Some games are region free so where it is from wouldnt matter. However some games are region locked so wouldnt work on a PAL console, but if your ripping your own purchased games taht wont matter as it will be a PAL copy.

To rip your own games you will need a Kreon flashed drive for PC or I believe there is a way to do it from your console if flashed with 0800 mode enabled,.

To burn your own games a dvd dl writable drive is required and with the option to enable book setting also,, I would recommend a pioneer drive for this.

That's not true as far as I know.

You can not play region locked games. There are lots of region locked games, but they are nearly all released on all regions eventually.

1. If you are using the console offline you cant get banned. If it is a modded console and you go online it can get banned. However if it gets banned or not it doesnt really matter if you are only using it offline.

2. If its modded and banned you will still be able to play everything just fine.

3. The Xbox is Pretty much region free, Some games are however region locked. I.e UK Consoles are PAL, US are NTSC. Some games only play on NTSC and Visa Versa.

4. No, The hard drive is disabled on Banned consoles. However if you had a modified one that is not banned and were playing offline you would be fine. However i believe memory cards are still OK.

5. All hard dives work will all 360s regardless of what model they are (unless as mentioned in 4 they are banned)

6. You would need to flash your drive specifically for this

4.yes you can still save games.it just corrupts it when you tranfer to an unbanned xbox.I wen igot banned I bought 2 new new xboxes.1 for online unmodded an 1 modded for offline.so I can still transfer my profile to online.

You can't install games to the hard drive, but you can still use your hard drive for saved games an stuff.

2 - Although the answer is Yes, all games will work on a modded console (originals or backups) depending on which firmware the drive was flashed with you may need to take an extra step playing the games. (this applies to backups and originals)
If you have iextreme 1.6 for example it will refuse to load any game that is 'Wave 4' (google it if you're not sure what it means). Basically almost all new games are wave 4, from about the time of the latest Lips, MW2 etc.

To get round this you need to either insert a DVD with Activate.iso burned onto it, which you then eject and insert your game disc (Activate.iso prevents the drive firmware checking wave version for the next disc inserted) which can become a pain or once you have a rip of your game disc use agbx to replace the wave 4 with wave 3 (again google on how to do it) then the disc will play.

Just thought this may help before you end up wondering why no new games work. Best bet is to buy one with the older flash so it doesn't do a wave check. (there is a 1.61 but not sure if that does a wave check or not)

There are advantages to having a modded console that is not banned, such as save games not corrupting when you move them and ability to copy to hard drive, so decide if it's best to buy a banned box or a new one and flash it but keep offline (like above poster mentions)

Here is some more info from another forum about a banned console:

Firstly, and most obviously, you cannot connect to Xbox Live on this console any more. This means no more game updates (aka title updates), XBLA games, marketplace content, netflix/sky player and so on. There is no way around this, all online capabilities are now disabled PERMANENTLY.

In all likelihood, your gamertag has NOT BEEN BANNED. When your gamertag gets banned, Microsoft sends you an email detailing why, if you have not recieved this email then your profile should be ok, to a certain extent.

Hard Drive installs are now disabled on the banned console. This means any disk-based games you have will no longer play off of the hard drive. If you attempt to play a game, it will tell you that it was installed on a different 360 and needs to be deleted/installed again. When you delete the game and attempt to install it, you are given a message telling you that it is not supported. There is no way to fix this, that functionality is simply gone from the banned 360.

The hard drive itself is left untouched - you can place it in another 360, even an unbanned one, and it will still work just fine. You do NOT need to reformat it to regain any kind of functionality. Any installed games will need to be reinstalled for the console you want to play them on. This is normal behaviour and happens when swapping HDDs on unbanned/legit 360's.

Windows Media Centre functionality is disabled. It is still possible to stream video/music content via the video library.

Your Gamertag may be corrupted. This does not mean your gamertag has been banned, you can recover it using any live-capable 360, however ANY ACHIVEMENTS YOU HAVE EARNED SINCE BEING BANNED WILL BE LOST. Your gamertag will be corrupted EVERY SINGLE TIME it is used on a banned console. This means you cannot use your banned console to play backups offline just to get achievements - it wont work, the second you put your profile back on a good 360, it will be corrupted and all progress lost. There is no way around this.

The same applies to game saves - if you access a game save on a banned 360, it too will be corrupted when accessed on a legit/unbanned 360! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! There is no way around this, either.

Your XBLA games and DLC will still be valid, however to play them on a different 360 you will need to be signed into Xbox Live. This is normal behaviour on unbanned/legit 360's as well. They may be corrupted and have to be re-downloaded if you attempt to access them on a banned 360. You can transfer all of your downloaded content to a new 360 here: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/system...ion/default.htm however note that you can only do it once every 12 months.

So, in summary:
Your Banned 360:
* Cannot go on Xbox Live
* Cannot install games to the HDD
* Cannot use Windows Media Centre extender
* Cannot be used to get achievements from backups without corrupting your profile

You cannot do anything about this, short of buying a new 360.

There may be more functionality disabled than mentioned here, things are still being discovered.

so it sounds better to buy a flashed xbox that has not been banned or buy a new arcade box from the shops and flash it??

what do you guys think?

A - FLASHED NON BANNED CONSOLE SECOND HAND

B - NEW BRAND CONSOLE AND THEN FLASH IT

I WOULD BE CREATING A BRAND NEW NAME TAG TO CO PLAY ON THE OFFLINE CONSOLE, SO MY ONLINE TAG IS NOT AFFECTED AND I WOULDN'T BE SWAPPING HARD DRIVES

Second hand obviously cheaper, but how can you be sure it isn't banned? bet there are many people selling them at the moment but keeping quiet about the ban. If you can be sure to get one that isn't banned then probably best idea. Warranty isn't going to matter as you will void that flashing a new one (although many people have got away with sending back a flashed unit to Microsoft and getting a replacement)

If you buy second hand, remember not to connect to Live to test if it's banned!!!, do one of the other checks such as installing game to hard drive.

if you are wanting to play some games online and don't want to run the risk of being banned then you would need 2 xbox's, 1 that is modded and isn't banned and the other that isn't modded to play official games on, you would then only require one gamer tag
