No rights mate... u gotta go through Microsoft. They'll send u a box to pop ur console in to send to them... and then they'll send u a refurb.

cheers thanks for the info dont want to wait a long time on it though cause heard of people waiting months for them to get done
#3
Yeh, the only other option is asking about for someone with a receipt under a year... then try it that way.
My brother knows the manager at a local Game store, so he got mine upgraded to an Elite (paid the difference) when it got the red rings, so if u know anyone at that PC world they might be able to help. But yeh some people waiting 3 months - 5 months.

if no luck there just sell it on ebay
#5
Get it sent back and get a replacement... u'll only get £80 off ebay for a red ring console

microsoft have extended there warranty on the red ring sydrome to 3 years any other problems its 12 months ,most retailers would tell you to send back to microsoft even within the 12 months anyway ie argos ,blockbuster etc , i would ring microsoft tell them you have 3 red rings even if its not they will ask you for serial number name address and should arrange a courier to pick it up just detach the hard drive b4 sending back normally takes 2 weeks turnaround

or try a quick fix unplug everything leave for a couple of hrs and give it another blast
#8
thanks guys and i dont have the 3 red rings i had an error E74 and the bottom right hand of the circle came up red very strange im hoping it just needs a break for a while
#9
If it was only 2 that just means all the wires need pushing in... make sure theyr all connected etc. I think...

wrap your console in a big old towel for about half hour with the power on. turn off the power and take towel off. let sit for about 20mins and try turning it on again. surprisingly enough it works and alot of people have got a lil extra life from their consoles before sending them back to microsoft.

Try pc world first. Tell them it was christmas and you have been away. My sons was from tesco and in the first year warranty and they swapped for the elite. Faling that microsoft are covering them for up to 3 years for this problem. We tried the towel thing but it didn't last and the problem kept returning. Good luck.:)

Section 4 is flashing red
- Hardware Failure
/ \
\ /

The Specific Type of hardware failure can be determined by the error code displayed on the screen.
If the screen is blank or you would like additional information follow the instructions for determining the secondary error code in the section below

E74:
There is a 90% chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip near the AV cable connection) it can also be caused by a faulty AV cable so check that first. In rare cases it is a problem with the GPU.

Forget what PC world say about the warranty, tell them that it is covered by the sale of goods act.

You are free to use Microsoft if you wish, but you have a contract with PC world, don't let them fob you off.

Basically goods purchased in this country must be "Fit for purpose".
This is one of your "Statutory rights" that are not affected when you buy something with a warrranty, whether it be 1 year, 2 years or whatever.

I would expect a games console to last 8-10 years, but the law doesn't cover you for that long, so let's say that it reasonably should last 3/4 years. Tell PC world that you are returning it under the Sale of Goods Act and they are obligated to do something about it.

What they should do is either return it to the manufacturer or swap it for a new/ 2nd hand one.

To get more concise information 'Google' Sale of goods act, or speak to a Consumer advice centre.
