my first 360 console has just gone to the big silicon valley in the sky, i'm just waiting for microsoft to either send me a courier phone number and or packaging for me to send mine back.

Started having problems when I first downloaded crackdown demo, first day it was released on live, my system would stall on start up, or stall in the middle of a game, i tried playing a dvd on friday night and it stalled again, did the usual restart and got 3 red rings on my console. and my tv displaying red and black squares.

checked xboxlive.com/support...

does my power supply light green when turned on - answer yes
does my power supply light orange when when on stand by - answer yes

I rang support, long story short i have to send my 360 for repair.

That's terrible mate.

Does anyone know anything about the release of the 360 with a quieter/more efficient cooling system? I asked in Game today and they knew nothing about it. They did say they expect a release of the 360 with an HDMI connection and 120gb HDD....

Microsoft will start shipping consoles with improved 65nm processors this year (as oppose to 90nm). They're gonna produce less heat so the console will almost certainly be quieter.

The DVD drive is officially being upgraded soon too and is also meant to read faster and run quieter.

I think it'll be pretty difficult to guarantee whether you are getting the latest model as I can't imagine MS actually marketing the two upgrades. Suppose it'll be a case of finding models above a certain serial number.

Excellent - I'll be smashing my piggy bank the day this is officially confirmed. ;-)

Just hope it's sooner rather than later. Can't wait to tear my girlfriend apart over a game of Tiger Woods 07.

Our 360 has scored a severe ring on a brand new game I bought my son for xmas.It now wont play this game.Any ideas why its done this.Seems ok with other games.Game was lego star wars II.It was new.
#8
what colour were the lights and how many were lit?
#9
I thought 360 was already HDMI?
#10
no unusual lights were lit.We have to also leave a game in it or the drawer gets jammed when its upright.
#11
nope not yet... version 2 will be, i believe the hdmi part is the connection type at the back, so the v2's will have a pc monitor type connection to them, correct me if i'm wrong ppl
#12
have you tried looking on here
#13
Thanks I think I will contact them to see if they will replace game.
Re the HDMI we have been looking to buy an HDMI tv so that we can take advantage of HDMI on 360.So am I correct in assuming the current 360 despite advertising will not play in HDMI?

I seem to remember a video on youtube, where if you have a disk spinning in the 360, and you move it from horizontal to vertical or vice versa, it scratches the disk.

Was it moved while turned on ?

Definitely worth a call to microsoft about it.

HDMI is just one of several methods for delivering high-definition content. At the moment the 360 uses VGA or component to do this.

HDMI (High Deinition Multimiedia Interface)
is just a connection, like scart.

You are referring to HD (High Definition) and the xbox can output to either Component or VGA in HD, whioch all HD ready TV's will accept.

Beat me to it.

Hehe. You got it free "somehow". It sounds like you don't know how you got it! Hopefully there's a spate of reverse burglars going round leaving stuff at night in peoples houses, or did a plump man in a red suit accidentally drop it down your chimney?

Mines getting picked up on monday to be repaired, its totally died so hopefully they will not be able to fix it and i get a new one !

They do crash an awful lot, not like the good old stable nes still going strong after 15 years !

The old stuff is always the best. There's an AS400 dedicated terminal in my office at work that we've had to reboot once in 6 years. Now that's stable.

Mine actually broke yesterday, kept crashing. Got it at launch. I just took it into GAME and they swapped it over with a brand new console so its all good.

Fluff - the ring was most probably scored into the disc if the console was moved from horizontal to vertical while it was on. It was a major problem when the console first came out. Originally MS offered replacement discs (not always the ones that had been scored but one of theirs like PDZ or PGR3). These days however you will get no joy out of them what so ever, they will refer you to the manual where there is a line buried away somewhere about it.

My 360 also broke after about 11 months (of pretty heavy use!!) I got the three red lights on the power ring. Phoned up and got it collected, returned about 3 days later with a fixed console which I can't fault. The thing that really annoyed me though is they asked for the HD back with it which foolishly I sent, they didn't say that I wouldn't get *my* HD back though so I lost ALL of my savegames as they sent a blank one back. Was on the last race of PGR3, last boss of Gears Of War and half way through a lot of other games etc. I now can't be arsed to play back through them again.
So moral of the story is if they ask for the HD back either don't send it (unless it's faulty!) or save your games onto a memory card first.

feel sorry for ya bonoman

i thought it was just mine that was noisy

i have a de-humidifier right next to the 360 which is always on so its just constant back ground noise yet when the 360 comes on its even noisier!!

i cant blame those new cooler fans add-ons tryna cash in

and hte de-humidifier is of industrial strength so its loud!!

i sorta swapped mine for a psp so i cant really complain that its a bad deal

I've just arranged for my label to be delivered so I can contact UPS to arrange pick up for repair.

Just hope it's a quick turnaround, especially as the problem is intermittent and might not show for a while. Bar steward.
#27
Browni how did you do this because i'm still waiting since friday... and was told that i would receive an email, which i never have. mine started as intermittent but now is every time i turn my console on, i get 3 rings of red
#28
I phoned the number: 0800 587 1102 (or 020 7365 9792 from a mobile phone)

Spoke to them on Sat regarding the intermittent fault and they asked me to try it without the HDD attached. Did so, still same fault (although only happened once).

Phoned back with reference number, got a nice scottish lass who was very helpful and she said she would send out the label which would have contact details for UPS so I can arrange pick up when I'm in.

I don't think they should be advising by e mail. Give them a bell again and advise you are still waiting.
#29
will go do this now, missing out on multiplayer action, which is a bummer
#30
just got a foriegn accented character that spoke 3,000 words per second, telling me that there system is down at the moment...

tell me about it thats the reason why i'm ringing up because my system is down and so am I :-(
