Random one, so i will keep it short and direct, I have owned an xbox 360 since 2007, in this time i have always kept the xbox horizontal as opposed to standing it up right.

Due to lack of space ( recent arrival of my Ps3 ) i am now have it positioned vertical, my friend says it damages the discs that way.

Just wondering if there was any truth in this?

Thanks

Only really damages the disc if you move the console while the disc is in use.

Only if you move the xbox with disk in it will it get damaged. I got 2 xbox's one stood each way, never had any trouble.

I think smaller movements or vibration to the console are more likely to damage the disc if standing up as opposed to lying flat

i am so tight for space its unreal but i dont want to risk damaging any games! i may have to have a rethink on space!

Their was/are certain xbox 360 drives that are renown for damaging disc's and even more so when used vertical. Don't think theirs any problems with the recent consoles, I think it was only the early 360 consoles that suffered with the problem. Never been an issue for me but my brothers started scratching discs.

If its very tight for space you may want to be concerned more about overheating

good point paddy C i didnt think of that ( as i move my hd drive that was flush against the bottom right vent of the console well away )

Installing games to the hard drive should minimise the disc's spinning and the chance of damage?

oiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii, why have you stolen my avatar?

The console should be upright, it is ventilated much better that way anyway.
