Don't touch a pre-owned one.
Don't buy from Argos, returns policy is crap.
There is a fair few deals on here, now and then for under the price of £150 and you should be able to get a game with a new slim 4gb console.

I say don't touch a pre-owned on as you have no clue, your words, and the hassle if it breaks will be easier when you have a console under warranty.

You can get a 4gb model for around that (new).

4gb is fine for most people as that is more than enough for saves. He could upgrade to a larger HDD in the future if need be.

Here is one for £159.99:

But like others have said, there are always deals that have games in with them.

Agree that pre owned probably not worth it.

Dixons £148 free delivery.

May be even better prices elsewhere. Also seems the 4gb comes with Wifi built in already (and 1 month free gold).

If after the month expires you decide to pay for a gold subscription for your son then don't use a credit card on the box as they create a recurring charge you have to ring to cancel. I get all my subscriptions from electronicfirst.com as they accept paypal and send you an email with a scan of the code within minutes of buying.

I agree dont get a pre owned one x boxes are prone to too many faults. As said you should be able to get a new slim one for £150 , it has wireless built in but if poss i would use it wired for live, as for the subscription i too wouldnt register my card details with microsoft but not cos its hard to remove as its not any more i just dont like giving my info out, just buy one from a store you can get them just as cheap as online .

Apart from if you want to save your disk to the hard drive. I only have 20GB hard drive at the moment and can only save 1 lol.

Think he/she is talking about installing games to the hard drive which makes them load faster. Not really a big issue. I have installed a few games and not seen many changes.

Would defo look at the deals, we got some before Christmas, they were £149 each from sainsburys, with two games, the games traded in at cex for £60, effectively making the consoles £90

As everyone said don't touch second hand consoles, plus with the new it's ot inbuilt wifi, the older ones will need an adapter, that will cost more. Don't go to game, had one with a problem, they initially refused to sort it, it took 4m of arguing with them, and they finally paid for it to be repaired.

The hard drive isn't an issue pick up a second hand one at a later date, the 20gb usually go for around £15 on here or in game shops, and you can quite easily insert it in the console.

How does a 10 year old save £150!!? Pocket money must have gone up since my day!!

Sound like your son did well in saving up his pocket money, good for him :)

Dixons seem to be the cheapest at £148, John Lewis are selling the same one £149.95. Might be worth the extra £1.95 for their customer services :)

JoJo - It depends what games he likes, as to where you buy it

check the likes of

Amazon
Dixon's, Currys, PC World (and look at price matching policy, althought the most you'll save is £2-3 in theory)
John Lewis
Shopto.net
HMV
Tesco (if you save clubcard points)
Sainburys
Morrisons (someone posted the 60gb XBOX for either £60 or £80)
