Xbox Eite Stuffed can i buy a Arcade version and use my 120g hard drive from the Elite

After a week of Our Elite showing three lights we decided to try and fix it our selves by opening her up following a heap of instructions...but It failed to solve the problem as now we get two lights when we switch it on.
What happens is this.....we power up green lights start to go around, with the fan running...then 2 red lights show and the fan cuts out.
So we are now thiinking of cutting our loses with this console, and wondered if it would be possible to buy the ARCADE version and transfer the Hard Drive from the Elite????
Would this work Please??

Yes, you can buy an arcade version of the console an just transfer the the hard drive over.

Microsoft recently released a tool on their website to transfer the DRM licences from the original consle they were purchased on to you new console (stuff like Xbox Live Arcade games, Videos, etc, purchased from marketplace).

but yes it works fine on the arcade

Why would you bodge your warranty and not just send it to Microsoft in the first place?

Might as well try and sell the elite on ebay, there are people who buy them just to repair, or use parts as spares.
#9
Should of just sent it back and waited a 2 weeks to get it fixed...:| silly of you really.

but yeah you can use your 120GB HDD in an arcade.

As previously said it had no warranty as we had been MICRO SHAFFTED!!!

A warning to anyone also thinking of buying a previously owned xbox 360 from anyone like Gamestation.......just not worth the heartbreak!!!

mate 3 years warranty with 3 red lights.... doesnt matter whos had it before you... the console was covered and could of been fixed by microsoft.

I bought a 3 red light 360 2nd hand, had no problems with getting it fixed, I just (cleverly) registered my details as the owner online BEFORE I rang them to say it was knackered, if you don't do that they still have the previous owners details and wont let you do it.

Oh how little you know :x
Read page 5 of your guarantee book ...as was quoted to us by microshaft!!!
Trust us we know as we argued the toss with two seperate reps at microsoft for well over an hour!!
The fact that it was only a month old when we bought it 2nd hand and it had not even been registered by its previous owner...made not difference!!

How would they know you where the 2nd owner without you telling them? Especially if it was unregistered, not a dig just curious as my little brother has a 2nd hand one.

Ive had a 2nd hand xbox 360 fixed by microsoft before....

infact it shouldnt of been covered it was only the disk drive that was dead. I told them it had 3 red lights. This is a day after changing the details of the console to mine. Anyway they fixed it free. Replaced the disk drive and the MOBO.

Maybe you should of phoned back... or did what i did... changed the details before you told them it had 3 red lights.

Unluck is all i can say.

Because they asked for us to provide the receipt as proof of ownership...at which point we had to tell them that we had bought it 2nd hand!

They were a real jobs worth the pair of them.......We tried fobbing them with I have prove of purchase by my credit card bill....that I paid £235 but they still said it doesn't change the fact that it is 2nd hand...we even tried getting trading standards involved to see if it would spark a change in their attitude but they still kept on quoting the warranty book and page 5

MS repaired my original xbox which they knew 2nd hand but still within warranty... also i knows it's a bit late now, but for the 3 rrod error you could've registered the console online on the ms site and then authorise/report the 3rrod error online as well and therefore bypass the need to speak to anyone (also the elite has been out for less than 3 years so they shouldn't have needed and proof, probably just bad luck getting through to the wrong person at ms customer disservice)

It doesnt matter as soon as you tell them your serial number over the phone and the words "2nd hand" or cant give them the original registered address the warrenty is null and void.
