Xbox Elite CD/DVD Drive question.

Kids Xbox CD/DVD drive seems to have gave-up the chase & now keeps saying Clean the disc with all her games.
I opened the console up yesterday & gave the Lens a clean, but still getting the same message.
Also noticed on her most played game COD6 that I can see what looks like 2 deep circles on the disc & looks like the drive is burning the disc if that makes any sense to anyone ?

Can I use any CD/DVD drive like a external one or must I buy say a Used one from ebay ?

No you have to find out which make of drive you have there are three different ones, google it at it willtell you how to find out. Then go on ebay and buy a blackdrive the same model. You have to cjange the drive+ the pug the drive in very easy to do

Must be same drive manufacturer, must have your DVD private key copied to new one.

Probably easier if you phone up MS and say what you say here, they may still have the extended warrantys for the DVD rings problem that plagued the Xbox360's couple years back.

Otherwise, easier to just go out and buy another xbox360 from Game 2nd hand.

Will the CD/DVD Drive in the Xbox have a serial number on it that I match-up when buying ?
Calling Microsoft will not help as they will try & charge crazy money to fix it & I should have not opened it & just done the RROD claim.Only out of warranty 2 months ago :-(

It's not the serial number, it's the private key in the DVD firmware. Your best bet is a new XBOX, I don't mean to be nasty or harsh, but if you don't know what is involved then going down the replacement DVD route is not an option for you.

It's worth going onto their website and seeing if they will fix it for free, don't assume.
Don't you install the games to the console?

With me opening the console I can't think why they would fix it for me now.
Also I believe it's this drive in Link below & all I'll need to do is replace it with the other drive or do i need to do anything else ?

you will need to read the fw off the old drive and write it to the new one as drive is married to motherboard with a key.
that or swap the lasers.
if you have never flashed a xbox before would get someone to do it for you.

Get the same drive and just swap the boards over.

I think it maybe easier for me to fit a new laser then.

Or the lazy mans way, buy a new console (slims dont get as many of these errors), sell your one as is.
I also have no idea why these errors are so common, ive had about 3 dvd players, 4-5 cd/dvd pc drives, and NONE have had drive problems.

Get the same drive and just swap the boards over.

That means I would need to buy a drive & a motherboard & so would be as cheap just buying another Xbox console.
