Xbox Live

So I have sampled quite a few online platforms and generally have found the Xbox crowd to be fairly immature. Many times I experienced the exchange of slurs or annoying kids down the other end (amongst their peers, not myself) resulting in me embarrassingly having to turn down the volume in front of others. I have rarely seen this happen on the PC platform for quite a few online titles like BF series and haven't seen any at all on the Playstation Network (fortunately it being aimed at a more mature audience helps in the first instance).

What peeves me though is the fact that one has to pay for Xbox Live to experience such behaviour whereas PC and PSN come at no extra charge.

Anyone else had similar experiences?

Yeah, happens alot try changing your zone. I usually play with me mates but if I go on a public server then I don't have the headset connected so I just play.
#2
I do not use the headset like Alfonse.

I only talk online with my mates as most people I have come up against online do not speak English anyway!

Same here. I hate to generalise but it does seem to be the Americans 90% of the time. I get sick of it some nights. There is only so much "you f*cking faggot" or "thats just gay" you can take in one night.

AND WHY DO THEY HAVE TO SHOUT ALL THE TIME?

i agree with that. only times i've heard the word faggot used on xbox live has been by an american.

I only tend to talk if there is mature people or palying a tatics game.I do enjoy shootign the american kids then hearing them whine
#6
I rarely hear any swearing while playing Team Fortress 2, in fact the only swearing I have heard have English accents
#7
meh, it is annoying but not to an extent where i feel it ruins my gaming experience.
Most games have a mute function now, so you can just mute the american 8 year olds that insist on calling you a "noob".

I find Halo particularly to have a poor community if you use general matchmaking but in general I don't find it worse than the other two. I think the main problem is that most Xbox players have a headset which is great if used properly as you can generally communicate with your whole team effectively but sadly is generally used for screaming or insulting. If you're doing general matchmaking and are playing with a good player, add them to your friends list - what I find is that most people have groups of friends they play with regularly and are just killing some time on the general matchmaking. If you can get in playing with these groups and build a decent friends list it makes the online experience much better.

As for the price, I find you get what you pay for - been playing Warhawk for the last few days and it makes me appreciate just how good an online service Live is.

I hate people who sit too near to there TV is very annoying, when you can hear when they shoot and breathing and stuff
#10
Yeah notice its Americans most of the time, and they insult you mid match or make sounds to put you off, and generally sound like stoners.

And yep on games like Street Fighter 2 the Americans disconnect just when they lose so they dont lose points.

The only Live game I ever found myself utterly obsessed with was PGR2 on the original XBox. There was an endless stream of really great and sociable people on that game - The exception being a young American boy that sounded like a girl and acted like a complete moron.
You could come home from the clubs at 3:00am and talk to other people from the UK in exactly the same situation (The only drink driving I condone :)).

I only played Halo online a couple of times before returning to the slightly more sensible FPS communities on the PC.

I love playing on Xbox Live, but despise the American kids. Was playing Halo 3 last night, totally thrashed the other team. Then once the game ended, I could hear them speak, and they sounded like they were about 8 years old. So ashamed! The party play feature on Halo 3 is quite a good idea, you can find other people who are alright (mainly from the west country, love that accent) and keep playing in a team with them. Also you can mute anyone who is annoying you so you don't have to hear them speak.

Generally I think it's great though, I can have conversations with my friend who's moved to Canada and play Rainbow 6 Vegas at the same time.

To be honest, I prefer the scenario where I don't have to play with a restricted group. PC/PSN does allow for that, and I know there is more online refinement for now with regards to buddies on Live, but that's as far as it goes. Online play itself is much the same with respect to who you can play against etc. but I have never had issues per se with PC/PSN and the increased number of max clients that can connect at a given time is a bonus. Not forgetting that Home may tilt the scales. XBL is good, but imho, by no means great. XBL CS can't even figure out why my BF:MC game can't connect to servers for instance (it used to be able to at one time). Since MS took control of certain servers as part of the agreement with publishers, they also have the ability to impose a lot of restrictions e.g. they can discontinue MP support for a game as and when they like forcing the end user to buy a sequel. But that's another story.

As for Warhawk, no issues thus far, people generally seem of good demeanour and use comms as and when is needed in game or at the end of a match. And the netcode seems to be pretty decent across official and non-official servers.

Not for me great connection but some games to suffer, COD3 being the most disgraced, plagued with issues.

Mute them! :) Annoying screachy kids are a pain.

American's are annoying, but sometimes funny.

My experience with Warhawk is the same as any other game, some games are good, some are bad - most of last night was bad with the voice comms being solely used to swear at people. Perhaps it was simply becaue it's Friday night. I switched to Quake wars which wasn't going much better but at least I couldn't hear the other players.

I find oublic servers are bad regardless of format, I've always tried to find private servers or groups of people to play with before I've been able to get the best out of games.

Put it like this, Xbox is pretty much a PC converted into a games console.
#33
I use family zone forfun but then use underground for a good match online

One of the biggest myths/misconeptions of the Xbox - just because it uses PC hardware doesn't make it a PC, less so in the case of the 360.

You can say about anything that has a CPU, RAM and HDD etc.

A PC is pretty much like an Xbox? All signs are pointing towards convergence of these platforms and the direction is PC oriented.

Not really if you're looking at specific scenarios. Otherwise broadly speaking I would say it's true. Even the software developers who create blogs look at the X360 as a PC many times, and they should be in a good position to comment.
