Xbox live Arcade game help

So, say i've spent a load of money on arcade games which are all on my hard drive.

I give the 360 to my boy who doesnt have internet in his room, and none of the arcade games will work unless signed into xbox live, not just a live gamertag or my live gamertag, it has to be actually connected to live for the games not to be a trial version.

Does anyone out there know of a way around this?

Surely they cant let you buy games which are not available offline??

My Arcade games work fine when not connected to XBOX Live.

Is he playing the games on the same 360 and not just changing the HDD?

yes it is a different 360.. with my hard drive installed, i wanted him to have all the games, and i moved my gamertag and saves to a new HDD that i use. Moving the games to a memory card for him didnt help..

any account can play the downloaded content on the xbox 360 it was first downloaded on.
if you try to play on anyother xbox then you will have to log into live.

so you should be able to give it to your son and he can play the arcade games on any account

Are you using the same Hdd to the same 360? The arcade games will only work with the 360 they were downloaded on.

That's the problem.......when you download them to the HDD it also inserts a unique console code in it to stop hot swapping the games from console to console. If you want to play them on another 360 you have to download them via his console again (which is free through your gamertag).

Have you had your console replaced since you originally downloaded the Arcade games?

I'm guessing you have - You'll need to transfer the license from your old console to your new one.

All the infos here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930017?sd=xbox

If you previously downloaded content from Xbox LIVE Marketplace, you must connect to Xbox LIVE to restore the licenses for that content on your specific Xbox 360 console, if you want to use the content when you are not connected to Xbox LIVE.

To restore your licenses, follow these steps.http://support.microsoft.com/library/images/support/kbgraphics/public/en-us/uparrow.gifBack to the top
From the Xbox 360 Console

Attach the hard drive or memory unit to your Xbox 360 console. This should be the hard drive or memory unit you originally downloaded the content to.

Turn on your Xbox 360 console.

Sign in to Xbox LIVE with the gamer profile that originally downloaded the content.

Press the Xbox 360 Guide button, and then navigate to the settings area. Select Account Management, and then select Download History.

Select an item, and then select Download Again.

Repeat step 5 for each item in your download history.
After you have downloaded your content again, anyone will be able use that content on that Xbox 360 console, regardless of whether the person is signed in to Xbox LIVE or not.http://support.microsoft.com/library/images/support/kbgraphics/public/en-us/uparrow.gifBack to the top
From Xbox.com

Visit the following Xbox LIVE Web Marketplace "My Account" area:http://www.xbox.com/myAccount/PurchaseHistory.aspx (http://www.xbox.com/myAccount/PurchaseHistory.aspx)

Select each item you wish to download. Add each item to your download queue.

The downloaded items should automatically appear on the console that you are currently signed in to via Xbox LIVE. If the items do not appear, the download process will begin the next time that you log in.
Note License restoration works only on the Xbox 360 console that has been returned to you.

the only way he can play them offline is to use your 360

100%. I have 2 360's and download games onto both of them. Just recover your gamertag on his and then redownload the Arcade games. :)

They can't limit it to 1 console due to the replacements from the amount of failures they get.

^
so you are saying if you recover your gamertag on another 360 you can use all your purchased arcade games on the new console even on a diferent account ?
#13
can u do this with all market place things?

Haven't tried on a different account as both of mine run the same account/gamertag.........but i'd imagine it'd probably work.

I may have to create a new gamertag to put it to the test later.
#15
this is all very interesting, so I suppose if i re-download them using his 360 but choose to use a memory card, will the games on the hard drive not work on my 360 after?
#16
You download the arcade content to your console - It's registered against your console (DRM rights).

If you play on any other console you have to sign in to your account on xbox live in order to verify you own the rights to it.

If you've had your console replaced, you can transfer the DRM rights to your new console.

I'm just doing this as I type - I'm on my 4th console and also am unable to play unless I'm signed into Xbox Live.

Only problem I can see with this, is that you can only transfer licences once every 12 months. Anything in between and you'll have to be signed into Live.

ok, so is there a way to get the games working on both machines? even if one cannot sign in to live after ?
#18
we have 3 360's and cant use arcade games on different consoles with different accounts
but for future reference what we do is download it to the 360 you dont normally use then you can always re download the game onto the xbox you use the most and play logged into live, this way you get 2 copies for the price of one :)

ok but are both connected to live?

unplug one and see if the games work offline, for both when signed into your account and another new non live account on the same machine:thumbsup:

as im always logged into xboxlive i always download to the other 360 with my acount then go into the lounge and download it again and play logged into live
this way the kids can play them all on the other 360 and i get to keep my 360 for me
now that is a good BOGOF offer ;)

You'd have to register the console that doesn't normally sign into live as the owner of the license. Then on the other console, you've have to keep signing in to access.

I'm just transfering my licenses now - Takes about 30mins according to the instructions.

There - Job done

thanks for all this, last question.

So if i gave him internet and he could log in on a live account he makes, does the liscense thing matter?

How would i keep the games on my LIVE machine, and get them on his LIVE machine too but for when he is signed into his account and not mine? (and if this is possible, could we play with eachother on them that way?)
#23
if you transfer the licenses over as above it looks like you could still play them on your 360 as long as you are connected to live, and yes if you son gets live as well you could play each other and only pay once for each arcade game :)
that what i do all the time.

edit: just make sure you download any further games on his 360 with your acount ok
#24
Sorry don't know the answer to that.

After transfering my licenses to my current console, I've now got to re-download my purchases as they still show as being 'trial' when not signed into live.

Only takes a few seconds per game though and I think you can set the download queue going from xbox.com

[edit] Yes you can queue up all you arcade game purchases on xbox.com so when you switch on your console it downloads them automatically.
#25
ok, i will set up his next to mine later and try sorting something out, thanks for all your help guys, keep it coming if you think of anything that may help some more

Hold on, let me understand this fully,

how many times can you transfer a license to a different 360?

can you just transfer it, down load it to new machine, unplug that, then repeat the process and all of the machines will essentially be able to play them offline?

think somewhere back in the thread somebody said you can only do this once every 12 months

Yes it says on xbox.com that you can only transfer licenses from the original purchase console to another every 12 months.

ahh yes sorry

right, rep time and then i will give this all a go later when the little dude is in bed,

I have been thinking about getting him internet up their, my eldest son has been moaning for it for a long time now, so there would be 3 boxes to sort out if i can, if not, just the youngest will get the arcade games.

Right, no matter what these games will not play on any other gamer id on another console, my gamer id has to sign in on that 360 for them to become full games and not trials.

I guess the licensing thing is the only way to go.

I have signed in on my account on the second 360, re-downloaded a few games from the account management bit, but as soon as i sign out and sign in with my boys id, they are only trials again. They are only full games when used with my account (on live too) regardless of which 360 they are on.

I would have thought you would have had to:

1) Sign in to the 2nd 360 as your profile and sign into Xbox Live.
2) Transfer the license to your 2nd 360 - Signing in to Xbox Live during the transfer process, identifies which console you wish to transfer to.
3) Re-download the Arcade game on your 2nd 360.

This should then give any profile access to the arcade game that's licensed to your 2nd 360 even when not signed into Live.

On your 1st 360 - You should still be able to play the arcade game when signed into your Live account.

I don't have two 360's, but I do have 2 profiles on my console. Before I transferred my licenses, last night to my current console, I was only able to play the full arcade versions with the profile that I sign into xbox live with. This was the gamertag/account I purchased the games from.

Now I have officially transferred the license to my current console and re-downloaded them (header/license info), I am now able to play the full arcade version with both profiles even when signed out of xbox live.

Yep W1zz is right :)
Just redownloading doesn´t solve this problem.
Did the license transfer a few months back myself as we have a few consoles
and I wanted all the stuff to be accessible from one console, no matter if on or offline.
If you do the transfer thing like it´s described on xbox.com (and do it all from your boys console) it definitely works
on your kids console on and offline and on your console only if you´re on LIVE with the account that originally purchased the DLC.
No way around it really other than swapping consoles with him.
Just don´t forget, the license transfer can only be done once a year.
