Right you need to pick a gamer tag no one else has

It costs about £28-40 per year for a gold membership dependent on where you buy.

You can use a prepaid code from a shop bought card or sign up with your card details online (this is a bit of a pain as they will take it out recurrently and it's expensive via Microsoft )

You should get the first month free when you sign up with a gamer tag
#2
thanks so far - where do you sign up with your gamer tag?
#3
Should have said, the gamer tag/account is linked to your hotmail/live/windows I'd account, also if he wants to play overage games you will have to lie about his age as they will put restrictions on the account
#4
On your xbox go online,
Do you have the new slim xbox or older style?
#5
It's the slim - also, his Dad is VERY keen to be able to use it as well. As we have installed it in the lounge for now - we do have a degree of control over what gets played
#6
Yes there are setting such as what games can be played on t he account and length of time for playing in system settings/family settings.

As its the new one you don't need an adapter etc, just connect to the internet by searching for your network, from there it will take you to an xbox dashboard

I've been wondering what the score is too. I've just got an Xbox and signed up for a Live account as prompted and have started my one month.

It seems every game so far requires some form of update from Live. I have no interest in online gaming, do I NEED Live? I'm not keen on paying 35 quid a year for updating games. Is there Silver and Bronze?
#8
sorry to be so thick - what is a dashboard :(

Guide here

Deluxe, there will be a lot of updates at the start but that will pass, the gold live is well worth it it brings the chance to play online with others, provides you with info and demos etc. It's one of the best aspects to our xboxs, we all have gold in our house

It's sort of like your control panel for the xbox, it directs you to areas of the live such as games movies, let's you contol your profile, and so on
#11
Thanks for your help :-) My son is willing to pay from his Xmas money, it's just that i don't want him to spend if he wont get any benefit

Is there anywhere prompting you to either sign in or connect to the network or anything sign up for a live account?

Just asked my son - and he said there was something like that when we first plugged it in.

What can you see in front of you right now?

Press the middle green cross button and a set of grey boxes should show up
#16
Got a series of green icons open tray/avatar//game library/video library ...etc
#17
Did you press the x button in the middle of the controller the one with the green light
#18
yup
#19
Nooo don't purchase anything yet! Every Xbox 360 console allows you to a 1 month Gold Xbox live trial. Just sign up to xbox live through the dashboard, and at the end it will automatically give you 1 month free.
#20
you get the first month Free just register with XBOX live and as you have the 250GB console
you will get 1 month free then just purchase either a card from any shop that sells games
or buy online via any site Avg price for 12months is £30 on line or £35-39 in store

Regards
Matt

The op still has to register for the free month, I can't remember the exact setup, has anyone done it lately?

Op can you go ton system settings and then network settings and try tonconect to the Internet and see where that leads you.

Or have a hunt on your profile, it may have an option to upgrade from there

Also maybe the guide in posted above may give step by step guides
banned#22
OP, i think you have to go on to your profile then it says connect to xbox live. Click on that then you should be able to make an account from there. Just remember to use your own email address as if he is young then it will restrict some things such as Last.Fm etc.
