Hi,

I am going to start getting involved in xbox live, never bothered with it before. Is there a cheaper alternative to the official xbox wireless adaptor?

Thanks :)

A lot of people would suggest that those home plug jobbies are a better betvfor a good connection. Wireless can be a bit hit and miss for gaming. Cost will be similar though.

A network cable

I have always used Belkin Gaming adaptors and never had an issue, bascially looks like a mini router and you just tell it the name of network and password and then take the ethernet cable that attaches the adaptor to pc and put in back of xbox.

Homeplugs would be better though as the Belkin adator relies on wireless of course.

Only trouble is i would need about 30 metres and run it all the way around my walls to get upstairs where my xbox is, lol

You do realise you need at least 2 homeplugs one near router and one near console.

Yes, fortunately both my router and xbox are close to plug sockets :)

Trade in your old 360 for a Slim with built in Wireless.

Game are doing the network adaptor for 19.99 pre-owned if brought with anyother game, so just find a cheap copy of fifa for 99p.

I'd recommend the homeplug route as well, you need the latency to be as low as possible and a cable connection should give a consistent and decent connection. Wireless on the other hand can be erratic which is no use mid-game.

Ok, guys, some great ideas here. I think the homeplug idea is the best idea because my internet connection where my xbox is is ok, but the signal isn't great, so online play would be a bit annoying. I think i can get the homeplugs for about £40 a pair so that is prob the best idea.

Thaks everyone though for your help and ideas :)

A: The Official Wifi adaptor
B: Homeplugs
C: A really long ethernet cable
D: Buy a new 'slim' and sell the old console to cover some of the cost.
E: Move the router into the room with the 360 and use a short ethernet cable.
