I have both a Xbox 360 and a PS3 and if I'm honest, at the moment, the 360 is superior to the PS3 due to the large catalogue of games and the killer exclusive titles it has (Bioshock, Halo 3, GoW etc.) but I believe in the long term, the PS3 will overtake the 360.

At the moment there are very few decent games out for the PS3 (GRAW2, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Resistance: Fall of Man and Warhawk being some of the notable exceptions), certainly no killer exclusive titles that would persuade you to buy one, however, in the next couple of months and in the run up to Christmas expect to see the number of titles increase (I'm looking forward to Call of Duty 4, Gran Turismo: Prologue and Haze). It won't be till 2008 before I feel the PS3 comes into its own, as it'll get the killer exclusive titles it deserves (Killzone 2, Gran Turismo 5, Tekken 6, Final Fantasy XIII, MGS4, LittleBigPlanet to name but a few).

Another thing to consider is how you plan to use the console. Xbox 360 is first and foremost a games consoles with some media features, whilst the PS3 is marketed as a digital media hub with its wifi and bluetooth capability 'straight out the box', and built in Blu-ray player. Storage is also easily upgradeable, as it uses a standard 2.5" hard disk, so you'll never run out of room for your music/movies/downloaded games. You can also browse the web and even use a USB keyboard and mouse if you so desire (eventually you'll be able to use blutetooth keyboards and mice). Sony's plan to release a digital tuner for the PS3 in 2008, will also mean that you'll be able watch TV programmes using the console and record them directly to the hard disk in the future.

As long as you're not a film buff and want a Blu-ray player, I'd get the 360 now and then in a years time get the PS3, as by then the price will have fallen and the catalogue of games available will much stronger than it currently is.

id get the ps3 personally better games will be coming out.
#13
if you dont want to play live get a ps3. if you have loads of ps2 games then this would be perfect and anyway the 360 games coming out are coming out on ps3 and there looking abit better on the ps3 right now. anyway check out the other threads there are loads read through them and you decide.

But the XBOX can pretty much do all that stuff too, it just needs a PC :?

Record/Watch TV - XBOX can of it "out of the box"
Extra Hard drive space for music and films etc - Stream it from a computer, again "out of the box"
Games - all those games you have listed are either on the XBOX, or have the consoles equivalent. Except possibly MGS4...

Good points, but it doesn't justify an extra £100 or however much extra it will cost.

You mean like your comments. So for these multi-platform games, where have you seen these platform comparisons? Most games that come out on both the PS3 and 360, tend to run better on the 360 atm. But hey, that's just what the developers say, what do they know.
#18
I would say get a PS3 if you're not gonna use Live and I now have all 3 current gen machines (don't ask).

The 360's a bit sad when it's not online, it's like the whole console revolves around Live really, it's a bit **** otherwise.
#19
I'd actually swing towards a PS3, Xbox 360 is all about live......
#20
It is, totally, they've basically made it into an extension of MSN, it's a great console online, but offline it doesn't really seem to have much going for it.

The games on the PS3 are a problem at the moment though, mine gets very little play right now and I probably won't use it much until I buy Haze for it at the end of the month.
#21
i didnt play much on my ps3 but the good games are now showing. rainbow six vegas is excellent online and warhawk is just amazing, has never lagged and now ive been playing on my playstation alot more.
#22
i only have a wii, and xbox 360..

But i think at the moment it's clear the xbox is superior.

However, the PS3 has only just come out and hasn't really has as much quality games come out.

I think in the end it comes down to whether or not you want amazing games now, with the possiblity of seeing the ps3 in the future and going "damn i wish i'd bought that" or buying a ps3 and having to wait a couple of months for all the great games to be released (mgs) whilst going "oh i wish i was plying Halo"..

:)

I don't think you quite grasp the concept of 'out of the box'...you said it yourself, it just needs a PC. Also, your statement that it's not possible to justify the extra cost of a PS3 over a 360 is narrow minded when you consider that the HD-DVD drive for the 360 is around £99.99...it might not be justifiable to you but to others a Blu-ray player might justify the PS3's price (I personally also use my PS3 to upscale my collection of DVDs to watch on my HDTV). At the end of the day, it's a personal choice.

It's true at the moment that most multiplatform games coming out seem to run better on the 360 (EA games being an example that springs to mind with Madden 08 and supposedly NHL 08 gimped on the PS3) but one thing you've got to remember is that development on these games started a year or more back, when the PS3 was still in its infancy and developers were still getting used to the hardware. Hopefully, the multiplatform games that are due to come out in 2008 on the PS3 won't suffer from these problems, as developers have been able to spend more time getting used to the capabilities of the console.

Im in the same situation, just got me a HDtv, (just an LG 22") and im really considering which one of the two to get.. im swaying more towards the ps3 and here are my reasons..

-Bluray player out of the box, im not gunna start converting my dvd collection over to bluray but i feel there are certain films which i would like to watch in true HD.
- Ive been playing the playstations for years now and still prefer the controllers
- Wireless out of the box, can go online and not have to be paying out extra.

er.. so yeah.. but i think at the moment the 360 has a lot of strong points.. mainly price and current range of games.

Hi,
Thanks for all comments and advice-are the prices ok i put on £326 for PS3 and £275 for premium ? Cant afford to pay out a lot at this moment in time -thats why thought the Great Universal codes were a good idea.

Its a tough call between the PS3 and xbox 360, In an ideal world i'd really like both, The Xbox 360 is cheaper to buy (and games can be had cheaper as there are ones that have been out longer), but the PS3 has some nice exclusive titles.

The best thing about Xbox 360 is Xbox live though, Playing against a computer just doesn't have the same effect!, PS3's online equivalent is free at the moment but its not quite as good, Although I read they may start charging in the future.

Xbox marketplace has a lot of Demo's and retro games too!

AFAIK, The only difference between the two cables is a HDMI cable carries sound and video, A DVI only carries a video signal, They should be both exactly the same image quality wise.

So if its for connecting your PC to the monitor, DVI-DVI is fine.

LMAO Me and a few friends broke out the megadrive last month and replayed all our old games :-D

I've always been a playstation fan but i've been considering both of these for the since the beginning of the year. At the moment i'm most likely to get a 360. Mainly due to the price and a few select games that i absolutly love playing.

When the prices of the PS3 are slightly more consumer friendly then i'll be picking one up. As said in p previous posts its only a matter of time before the developers begin to utilise the full potential of the ps3.

Did everyone hear the brilliant news? Rez and Ikaruga are coming to XBL :w00t:
Oh and lets not forget that Ninja Gaiden II has just been announced as a 360 exclusive
#35
I've still got a megadrive too!, Run an emulator on the PC, But its not the same as connecting it up and having a real controller!
#36
ps3 without a doubt cat be arsed to go into the reasons why

I agree, but as we are all on HUKDs and 99% are using a PC we all already have the PC!

I am sure one day the PS3 will be useful for something other than blueray (I download my videos and thigns though so disc storage for me is pointless. Obviously you need it)

Isn't it better to have the option with the HD DVD though? If you went out and bought a car and they forced you to buy it with DVD players, and screens etc for more money would you still bend over?

Some people would prefer to buy the car with all the features rather than have to go out and pay more and more everytime they want to do somehting.
I think the Ps3's package with the Bluray, built in wireless, free online gaming, HDMI as standard etc is very good value for money.

So, you think £326 is a good price ?
