Can the laser be weakened by using too many DVD+DL discs? Do you have one red ring?

lol yeah, i got it modded a few days ago, got it home and worked fine.
playes all back-up games and orginals and also dvd's fine.

next day i put in a backup disc and it would spin then display the "open tray" msg.
i put in an orgianl disc, works fine..

I tested it by swapping discs to see if they load.. i.e backup disc.. then orgianl.. orginal... bkup disc wtc..
just to test if it were the bkup discs and not the drive.

queston is really, is it the flash, or is it the bk up game?

ive asked a freind to lend me a bkup disc for me to test. if that works then i guess is the flash?
but why would the other discs work?? hmm me confused lol

oh just to add, if i eject and try again, after about 30 attempts the disc will play.

also i have only used the bk up games about 3 times since the flash.

no rings, the console works fine. (apart from not reading my bk up games)

Is the back-up a cheap non-aone/verb disc?

could have a poor laser, using the backups pushed it over the edge..

So now it may read ones that have been burned on a higher quality disc, or ones burned with a higher quality writer etc. but it will always be hit and miss, so you're better off getting the drive replaced.

About 25 quid for a new one.

thanks, yes i thought this was the case, the xbox itself if quite old (2 and a bit yrs) its quite loud and pushes out more heat than my other 4month old 360.

I think I will poke about with it tonight, if not i will get a new drive and re-flash it.
btw will i have to buy the exact same drive as before?
or can i get any?

if you use it online it will need to be the same make and model drive, or you risk higher detection, otherwise, just whack any in there. What drive do you have?

Threaten to report him to the police for selling the means to by pass copy protection which is illegal, if he does it for free then he's okay.

Doesn't sound like much of a mate if he'll charge you.

Have a look on dealextreme I think they are about $30, if you get a direct replacement for yours you dont need to rfeflash it just put the circuit board from yours on it then it has the key and the iextreme firmware ready to go:thumbsup:

That is wrong.

You still need to reflash to match the key off the mboard mate.

Dudeey knows where to get drives, PM him.

theres a new copy protection method implemented into new games now ,the first being Major League BaseBall 2K9 so youll need it reflashed anyway to play copies of your newer games :whistling:

ps; strike the circuit board(pcb) contains the key but will only work if its a similar drive your trying to swap with ,otherwise as you said you will need the key to spoof it.they are also still working on the new firmware for this protection

Hmmm, Yeah i had this problem. Tried all sorts, in the end I just got the hairdryer down the vents(pressing the cold trigger of course) and in the disk drive. Worked fine aftwerwards. A good blowing.

Discs wouldnt play and open tray just game up. Basically.... CLEAN IT YOU SCREBBY BOII

thanks for confirming, thats the reason I said direct replacement as even someone with very basic knowledge can swap them out, spoofing drive keys and firmwares however isnt for the faint hearted, i'd give it a go as a last resort only, when I did my 360 with iextreme I nearly bricked it as we had a powercut (thank hell for ups systems) would have been gutted as it was an elite just a few hours old:oops:

A power cut whilst flashing geez, not good at all, thank god you had UPS :)
