Phew! Nearly booked a flight with them last week!

Will also affect the following companies I would assume.

The XL group runs an airline and owns several travel companies, including Travel City Direct, Medlife Hotels Limited, The Really Great Holiday Company, Freedom Flights and Kosmar Holidays.

For those with holidays booked, best check you don't have a flight beginning with XL. Apparently this will affect 200,000 advance bookings!

Where does that leave our shirt sponsorship :w00t:

Customers booked with XL Airways Through XL.com or XL Call Centres

Unfortunately, customers who booked either through xl.com or xl call centres are not ATOL protected. Consequently, you will be ineligible for a refund from ATOL in respect of your flight.

This was mentioned on Radio 5 Business this morning. Sounds like you'll be needing a new sponser.

It was a £7.5 million 3 year deal apparently.

Any club worth it's salt, should replace any sold shirts with new sponsor or no-sponsor ones.

How come? Didnt you book a package holiday (protected by ATOL) or pay by credit card?

The only ones out of pocket will be flight only purchasers using a debit card.

It's pretty damned sad really, especially for everyone who booked through them.

Me and my friends were going to book a holiday for next year and were looking at them!

Spanish firm Futura went the day before.......my parents are having to fly back via nottingham and travel to the wirral on a coach...luckily they booked through thomas cook and thomas cook are funding a flight back....wont be long before ryanair are in hot water they made massive losses and its going to carry on....

bump for people who dont know..

The state of the world eh? You can't even book a flight or holiday without having to look over your shoulder that the company might go bust. I felt for the stranded ones on the TV this morning tellng how their holiday is ruined cos they don't know how they will get back. Also some of those who have paid and haven't gone yet are out of pocket. Its horrible, hope whoever have holidays booked get their money back at least. Good luck :-) xx

They will get their money back if they paid by credit card churchy.. It's the ones that have paid by debit card that will loss big time.. The problem will be trying to book flights with another carrier because the prices are bound to rocket due to demand.. I have booked with XL four times in the last three years on self build holidays.. I won't be doing it this way next time.

I think a lot of people will be put off doing DIY holidays because of this.. I'm thinking of booking a packaged holiday now for next summer because I think the prices will only go up with fewer aircraft seats.. I can get a hoiday for three to Paphos for two weeks next July for £1150 which is not much more than the flights at the moment..

There must be a lot of worried people out there and it must be awful for those that are actually on their holiday and those that have gone to their airports this morning only to be told this news..

That's what you get for being cheap skates :whistling:

Stick to the main players, Virgin, easyjet, British Airways. They won't go bust :p

I've always wondered especially with this and the recent zoom stuff is that why don't the people who are stranded and have to make their own way home just stay in the country until they are chucked out. I mean could they not just claim asylum(just realised how crazy that sounds) or just stay there. I'm sure that people who enter the country illegally don't have to make and pay their own way back when the respective authorities deem they cant stay there,

Self build holidays are still fine. Just booking with a debit card is dumb.

As for booking a package holiday now to Paphos, the airline / tour operator can still go bust or put up the price anytime between now and the holiday departure date so not sure what you are saying really.

yeah just thinking out loud, but why should someone who through no fault of their own that is stranded in another country have to pay a couple of grand to get home not to mention the hassle of trying to find an alternate flight/route home yet someone who illegally enters the country gets their trip home paid for and organised not to mention any accomodation paid for.

as for the troll comment I'll pretend you never said it and leave it at that:thumbsup:

The holiday is with Thomas Cook so I would think they are one of the safer ones.. If I booked now at the the web price the cost of the holiday won't move much if at all.. Maybe a fuel surcharge.. The CEO of XL leisure said that because of not being able to adjust the prices on booked airline tickets in line with fuel prices was one of the reasons way the group went bust.. Their French and German group are still operating and they have different rules in price adjustments..

I have been traveling abroad many years and have never had the price of my holiday increase after the time I had booked it..

I'm just saying that booking a holiday for myself I will be doing it with one of the bigger companies and doing it as a package deal until it all settles down. I'm saying that the cost of the holiday to Paphos is not much more what the costs of the flights are alone so for that reason it would be a better option for me..

I just think the cost of flights are going to be high for next season and that the good flight bargains will be harder to come a cross.. That could be why Thomas Cook and Tui groups shares have increased by 7% today..

I think the writing was on the wall for xl a few months ago, when another of the companies that they owned called Libra went bust.

Our holiday in June to Greece was booked with Libra and we received a letter about 10 days before we were due to fly to say that Libra had changed to Allbury group, and that our accomodation was no longer available. There was 13 people in total in our group including kids and we had a nitemare trying to get everyone accomodated together.

Whilst we were there, the Greek lady who owned the apartments, told us that she was owed thousands of euro by Libra for the previous summer. She also said that she did not hold out any hope of getting the money back.

Absolutely shocking that they were able to get away with this imo.

I think the major difference is the ones abroad want to come home (God knows why judging by the state the country is in!) whereas illegals want to stay here (for obvious reasons).

And yes, I read the Daily Mail / Express too :w00t:

Trying to switch to The Independent but find I don't get my daily whinge topic from that :-D

Yeah but my thinking is what happens when you've spent all your holiday cash on a great fortnight away, dipped into the credit card for the llast few days thinking well i get home by the end of the week then I should have enough cash until pay day next week. I know I've been on a few lads holidays when that happens and i'm totally skint on the way back.

So what would happen if the above scenario occurs, just sleep on the airport floor until you either get paid in a fortnight, somehow get a relative to find a spare grand or beg for cash off other travellers.

Think you may be reading to much into my thinking with the dailly express jibes, never touched the rag, more of a daily mail, the herald, sunday times kinda guy oh and the sun but only on a friday because ally ross rules lol. damn him for going to macedonia to watch the scotland game,
