Do you need the xp disc? I thought you just updated like any other update.
#2
You can just either download it as you would download any other microsoft automatic update,
Or you actively go to the microsoft download area...click on download and it does everything itself.
#3
No what i think he means is slipstream sp3 into the xp disc with sp2 already on it? This way when doing a fresh clean install its all in one and installs automatically!

This may help

were can I get SP3?
#5
Go to start -> control panel -> security center -> windows updates.

Something along those lines, not on a windows machine at the minute, it should also show up in the task bar as an update and it is also available online but cant find the link.

You can download the executable file from here (if you want to keep it for perhaps a later install) or maybe install it on more than one PC.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5b33b5a8-5e76-401f-be08-1e1555d4f3d4&DisplayLang=en

Note it is 319Mb.

I think this file includes both SP1 AND SP2.

If you are already on SP2 then the download from Windows update is much smaller (about 40Mb I think).

If you take a few seconds to read what it says:

"For IT Professionals and Developers: This installation package is intended for IT professionals and developers downloading and installing on multiple computers on a network. If you're updating just one computer, please visit Windows Update"

In this scenario you are the "IT Professional" for your home computers.

So if you have more than one PC in your home, or you would like to keep SP3 on CD in case you need to install it at a later date, then you can download this file.

By "keep SP3 on CD" guilbert53 means to integrate (or slipstream) the files within SP3 onto your XP CD so that when you next install XP from the CD it will not require further updating until such time as MS release more patches (which they will).

I dont think you even need to go as far as to make a slipstream CD.

Just having XP SP3 on CD means that if you ever have to do a re-install of XP you dont need to download the whole service pack again.

I have "old" copies of XP that have no service packs included in them. When I reinstall XP on any of my PCs (which I do now and again) then I can use the XP SP3 CD to install the service pack.
