I need to buy a laptop & have seen a refurb at pc world/dixons (link in next post). What I need to know is-
1. Is it a good laptop for the price?
2. Are DSG refurbs OK?
3. Does it have HDMI
4. Does 'dolby home theatre' mean it has good speakers on it (which I really need)?

I'd be eternally grateful for any advice & tips on this, or pointers towards a better deal?

DSG & Refurb = Big no no.

I've had 2 Toshiba's, and BOTH had to be sent back for refunds. Simply gave up the ghost. Avoid unless you want hassle.

They maybe cheap, but there's a reason for it.

Serious? You mean the same bigpockets that sold hundreds of faulty sets of Audica MPS-1 speakers as new last year?

You take your chance with DSG refurbs. You might hit lucky and get the one returned by someone who was too stupid to turn it on. On the other hand, you probably stand a better chance of getting a dud one that has been repackaged (as opposed to refurbished).

One thing in DSG's favour is that they're probably better than bigpockets.

I would leave this to be honest, you are taking a gamble buying a new Acer, god knows what it will be like as a refurb.

Thanks chaps, rep left all round. Even though I'm more confused than ever now!

Tbh, I don't think you can go far wrong with Dell.
Have a look here, they list all the possible permutations and all the offers and current discount codes.
And don't forget Quidco if you decide to buy.

I will second this. I bought a dell with a 3000 series intel dual core processor, and its like llightning. I dont have it any more, but I wish I did!

On the dolby home theatre front. As it's Dolby it doesn't have anything to do with the speaker quality. In this case the 'home cinema' technology converts stereo/5.1 into fake 6.1/7.1 channel sound.

If you need good speakers you either need to have a listed in the flesh or buy a laptop that's been reviewed to have good speakers.
