It used to be a concentration camp. I visited it in bitterly cold January quite a few years back, me and my wife had to trudge through deep snow via a dark, eery forest after we got off the train. The only other soul we saw was an old guy walking through the forest armed with a massive stick to ward off villains or animals or both.

Very poignant place, especially with a lot of childrens toys stuffed into one of the monuments in memory of the children who died there.

Lol, he is rather fond of that bench! It's nice to sit next to him and reflect for a bit.

Not a statue or monument but have to post this as a truly beautiful castle.
Eilean Donan Castle, have been many times and it is spectacular. Would highly recommend a visit, these are not my photos as mine are on camera in a drawer!

Cleopatra's Needle. Simple, and straight to the point!

http://imgcdn.geocaching.com/cache/77055fef-afd1-4491-8cc6-4b064c7fad6f.jpg?rnd=0.2826

The London needle (there's 3 around the world) is in the City of Westminster, on the Victoria Embankment near the Golden Jubilee Bridges.

It was originally erected in the Egyptian city of Heliopolis on the orders of Thutmose III, around 1450 BC. It remained in Alexandria until October 1877 when its transport to London was funded by William James Erasmus Wilson.

My runner up statue.

Sofia Vergara

I'm sure there was a load of drama a few years back, in which the story was said to be fabricated. A different example would be Hachiko.:)

Don't go there. We will quickly be on to troops in Iraq.

The river at the back of Taj Mahal stinks so badly in the heat. They might have cleaned it up since I was there 25 yrs ago.

Ok smart butt ;) I will rephrase

One of my favourite places to visit is this iconic Scottish 'monument' which is one of the most recognisable castles in Scotland.

This is a photo I took when visiting in 2013:)
