Your thoughts on the new Apple Ipad?

I'm thinking about getting the Ipad when it is released, but i'm wondering with the 3G+WiFi version would carriers be selling the ipad just like the iphone, e.g. you have to purchase the ipad with a fixed term contract or do you think you would be ablve to buy the device seperately and then take out a contract if and when you want?

If you have to purchase the device with an 18 month contract i think that would suck hard! I would feel sorry for those with an iphone who also want to purchase an Ipad!

What do you think?

in the us they are doing $14.99 or $29.99 a month with no contract , just pay as you go!
should think they would do something similar overhere!:thumbsup:

Did you watch the release?!?!?!?

I should probably answer that for you - NO

There shall be no fixed term contract for the 3G - there will be 2 plans - $14.99 for a small ammount of download or $29 for unlimited, this will be prepayed like a pay as you go card, and there is no fixed term so no contract. Uk pricing to be sorted by June this year even though the 3G and wi-fi model is due out in april, hence the American pricing as that is all we know thus far.

Hope this helps!!! You can watch the apple keynote ipad release speech on the apple website, for all other information!

I hope they do, i have been resisting from getting the iphone for a long while now just because of the lengthy contract, price of the handset and the monthly line rental. I wouldnt mind one of these ipads though as long as and if there is cheap line rental. I hope you can install microsoft office too, that would be awesome, then again that would probably defeat the purpose of having them release a MacBook Touch Screen Pro :w00t: Oh i just remembered, it hasnt got Mac OS on it, my bad.

I only watched the video on youtube that was made by that ijustine girl! BUT i thought maybe the UK networks would do something stupid as they usually do, as Orange and O2 have apparently started to place orders in for the new sim cards

Watched the Keynote and done some readings and discussions in the house. Both me and my Dad are very big apple users.

Ill more than likely be getting the 64GB WiFi + 3G When released. Sure its just another toy..... So what.

My belief is that the ipad will fail to do well this year, and a remodeled version will be released next year, with mac os x and actually be a touch screen computer with multitasking! I was quite excited about this product until the launch, still steve jobs said there would be a few new products this year, namely the iphone (4th gen) and hopefully a mac/notebook!!

Yes but its really the same concept though? people are complaining that it's just a bigger version of the Ipod touch, i'm sure they willl probably allow users to make calls from it too, whether its by using the carrier or through skype

No macnotebook is to be developed soon or if so theres not even rumours. Internets filled with 4th Gen. which will be in 3rd quarter keynote apparently.

As for the iPad..... Camera will deffo de added for conference call like features. As for OSX with multitasking.. Unlikely in something so small. They just cant do it within an appropriate price range.

iwork is great - does it all for you. Sure its not as powerful as powerpoint maybe.. But the finished product looks so much more sexier.

I was saying, if you were able to install applications like office etc it would have been better, but if they did that then who would buy a Macbook Touch Screen if they released one any time soon
#18
No rumours of a mac/notebook, but it will be done at some point i am sure, i will be buying an ipad, hopefully they will develop some good remote apps to use at home because i can't see myself taking it out of the house, as it doesn't do much more than my current iphone.

This is what I was thinking (saw it on Bitterwallet):

As for OSX in a tablet? Already exists. Very nicely done too:

Already been a lot of threads on this.

My thoughts are the iPad fails.

No multitasking
No Flash
No camera
No decent OS
No phone calls

and more
So it's just an iTouch for people with fat hands. And an Apple pricetag.

I thought it sounded more like a weight gain product; "I Pad".

I don't see what the fuss is about, it's just another ARM tablet (such as Archos have been making for a couple of years) rather than anything new. It's like the Macbook air, a copy of an existing product with an apple logo (and restrictions) stuck on it and some hype.

It is good that it's got an IPS screen though.
