Another one, like Roy Evans back in the day with us, who was probably too nice a bloke to be a football manager.

Like you say, it wasn't really unexpected though. Will be interested who they can bring in as boss seeing as they're supposed to be cutting running costs etc.

I guess he will be moving out from the house he lives in 1/2 mile up the road from me!

Bit tough I think, at the start of the season it was the 'best football we've seen in a long time' and he had a fairly tough time with injuries, lack of investment, ownership uncertainty and then owners sticking their oar in.

Would have liked to see him get another season and a little investment as he seemed to be on the right track as far asthe football side of things. It wasn't really 'his team' was it?

I agree, although the situation at the club hasn't helped much.

Be interesting to see if the big names (Green, Upson, Cole) are picked up by bigger clubs in the summer.

Managerwise, I can't think of anybody that would want the job at the minute. Although I had an amusing thought that they could give it to ex-MK Scum boss, Paul Ince. lol

The one big problem any manager will have is working with sullivan and gold.

Not so much gold but sullivan, as he has already done at west ham, opens his mouth without thinking and upsets too many people.

Was renowned for it at blues and the fans hated him in the end, gold was always the friendly face with the fans having to make up from what sully had been saying.

If i was a hammers fan, i would want Bilic, quality mgr and ex player so will have some heart for the club.

could anyone have done any better with the resources he had?

Bilic was the first one who came into my head, but could they afford him? He's quite outspoken as well - do you reckon he could work under those two?

I'm not a Hammer, but you can only bake a cake with the ingredients you have.
Seems another case of new management with sights set too high and managers will come-a-flocking!
Tut West Ham, should have stuck with Zola...invest and improve. Hope he gets a decent gig elsewhere :)

You should read my daily column in the 'Official Banter Thread' lol

Real Mallorca manager Gregorio Manzano is the surprise new candidate to replace Gianfranco Zola at West Ham.

and the jokes have already started:

What's a West Ham fan's favourite cheese?

You're Gone Zola !!

Feel sorry for Zola, awesome character, hope he stays in the prem!

Bilic?

I'm not sure hammers fans would be happy with somebody else with zero club experience.

huhges would be a good bet, i think.

A relegation fight year on year would seem to be the best they can hope for...

yep - can't see west ham getting anywhere with thier squad, green, upson and parker aside the squad looks very poor.

I don't think zola's dont that great a job. he has bought a lot of rubbish.

After going to all home games this season and half the away games i can only say im pleased.

His tactical decisions infuriated me.

Also his interviews after the game used to do my head in.

Good luck to the little fella but we needed a change. Just hopefully it wont result in any of our better players leaving because hes gone (When i saw better players im talking about Parker only).

^^ the problem is who are you going to able to attract that's much better given the finances, current team etc etc?

Zola can come to Chelsea - we'll give him a position with the youth team and keep him round the place.

The funny thing is he could've come out of retirement last season and been West Ham's best player.:-D

To be fair I wouldn't be disappointed with Grant and it looks as though he would be happy to come.

The problem with Zola is that he is tactically inept. So keeping him on next season would of resulted in another season of failure.

He may go on to be a decent manager when he learns from his mistakes. But i get the feeling he will be better of suited to being a coach.

Yep - thought I'd give you the summer to let it sink in before the league starts again.
