can you elaborate for the uninitiated?

If you buy the phone from with an international ROM, the first thing to need to do is revert it back to the official Chinese ROM.

1. convert from international ROM to official Chinese ROM version 1.9.044_ST
2. then update 1.9.044_ST to version 2.3.042_ST
3. finally wait for the OTA update to 2.5.334_ST <--- Android 7.0

Why do you need to flash 1.9.044 first?

Just flashed mine to the indian rom and got an OTA update without any issues. The chinese rom has some messages/popups in chinese so you can't read them, whereas the indian rom everything is in english.

That's correct. But yours is not on Android 7.0 yet.

1.9.044 -> 2.3.042 -> 2.5.334

It doesn't matter which ROM you started off with as long as you get to 2.3.042 which will allow you to get Android 7.0 OTA.

1.9.044 -> 2.3.042 is the path people used to get the OTA.

I had the phone for awhile now, been using the Indian ROM. Very stable, never had a crash ... The camera is not Samsung or Apple quality.

I've been on Android 7.0 for 2 days now. Stable so far.
I'm not a gamer but I had tried some to test the ROM, everything thrown at it and it handled very well.

Prefer Indian rom to Chinese one so will just wait for ota for Indian rom.

In no rush anyhow as it won't make hardly any difference in day to day use plus I will wait a few weeks before updating just in case it breaks things like they usually do lol. Will read opinions on forums first.

True. I was quite happy with the Indian ROM.

You can go back & forth with any of those ROMs. :)

True but since my barclays app works its too much hassle switching. One of reasons I don't do custom roms anymore as barclays app is fussy.

These are official firmware, not custom. So no root etc...
Barclays mobile works fine as I use it too.

Yeah I know these are genuine. What I mean is by switching roms constantly between official roms means I need to unregister the app before changing roms and re registering etc otherwise it locks out at 6 installs and have to call them.

The custom rom reference was just one reason I don't do it anymore even though I love switching etc. Barclays never works on custom roms which is a pain.
