Panasonic TX-48CX400B 48" FV HD - 4K - 3D - Wifi Smart TV £389.00 + Free Delivery @ AO

Back down to £389 again at AO using code. I think overall at this price point it's a good set of specs. The code gives £40 off a £399+ Spend (instead of the usual £30 off £399 using the GET30 Code.

It is the same insides... same everything in fact... but you get to choose which badge you want ;)
Is there some documented evidence of them having the same panel etc in them? Serious question - not trying to be an ****.

I can't speak of this tv - not having worked on it, but from experience of the Panny 40C300 ( lot lower specs I know but using it as an example)

Vestel use 6 different manu's for the panel - so it can be a crapshoot as to what you get, and the main board will look the same but are not interchangeable (because of the panel being different)
Linky here for list of brands and post number 53 has a list of panels used.
As a cheap tv they may suit some - as long as you use external speakers.
I would just about compare (the c300 not this set) to the entry level Samsung Tv's i.e. J4000 range (in regards to the electronics inside them)
The different brands may look different but the give away is if you look at the connections on the rear - they will share the same layout mainly (maybe with an extra hdmi port or so)
for example take a look on ebay for vestel 17MB95 main board used in the c300 - so many variants (also used in Digihome, Celcus Blaupunt,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,)

That said the main board for this set does look more 'beefy' - but not by much (ebay -> vestel 17MB100 - also used in the Digihome 48" btw)

Excuse my ignorance but surely if you have a 4K TV then the TV itself will natively handle the upscaling to 4K - there's no need for the Blu-Ray player to do it?
Correct, but it depends on which has the better scaler. I would hazard a good guess at your tv having a better one than this player.

Yes - that's what I've always been told - always let your TV (where possible) do the upscaling to 4K
I'm still shocked only 35% accounted for bluray adopters and 65% DVD !! I suspected this as I feel it's not a priority in the UK but us early adopters are who love tech only accommodate for the small minority of audiophiles and videophiles! It's sad as even friends of mine thinks there's not much difference between DVD and bluray WTF!! They need there eyes tested

The tv will upscale but it's making up the 'missing pixels'. Otherwise you could say 'I've got a 4k tv and dvd player why do I need blu ray?'
Native 4k films will look sharper than 1080 ones.
Of course whether that really matters unless you're sitting 3 feet away from a 70" tv is another question ;D
erm... isn't this bluray player just filling in missing pixels too?

Yeah. Ignore me. I thought this was a 4k player. :)
I'm looking for another 3D player but prices
seem to have steadied or risen. Have you actually seen the 5500 for £50 or less, as it seems to be £70 to £100 on most sites I've checked, and even then stock is doubtful. If you have I'd be interested in the link thanks.
David23
I wonder if the newly leaked PS4 slim does indeed play UHD Blu Ray's because currently the best value UHD player on the market is the Xbox One S at £250
Based on the photoes and videos keaked, the slim PS4 is a budget, cost saving model to be offered cheaper and it seems there is no UHD logo anywhere to be found on packaging and console itself.
David23

and Sony would be crazy to do a refresh on not at least equal it's functionality.
No not really,Sony is in a completely different situation compared to Xbox, they have sold much more consoles and have much firmer grip on the market, maybe a cheaper PS4 (without UHD) works better for them as they can expand their territory even further by targeting the budget conscious consumers.and of course they will have the Neo for more hardcore gamers with UHD and all.
But for MS things are different, and maybe they are trying to catch up as much as they can, hence re-design of the current One with some extra bells and whistles (UHD).

I might be wrong but vr is interactive no software is gonna be compatible with this crap
You are WRONG so so Sooool WRONG. VR doesn't have to be interactive at all.
It's just needs to submerge you in video. Making the video feel virtually real! (Virtual reality?!)

There are apps on Cardboard that allow you to walk around a VR environment. You can stop, start, walk up stairs etc. Its not fully interactive, but its a great introduction to VR. For £10, you aren't really going to do any better.

Does this particular headset have the action button like cardboard?

I bought one similar from Home Bargains few weeks back for £7, read all the negative reviews on how it ruins your first experience of VR but thought at that price it's worth a punt. I have to say, although not true VR, they are brilliant for what you're paying. Great few Google cardboard apps out there that work and also apps that split the screen allowing to watch any video from sites using the headset. There is the lack of an action button on mine (not sure about this one) which means some apps are pointless but I find waving a small magnet near the headset does the trick.

good projector
it's been this price off and on for 2 years at least though
when I bought my BenQ W1070 it was between it and the optoma, and I only went BenQ because of past experience and superior reviews. For that reason, I'd recommend going for a W1070 instead.
Since buying one 2 years ago, I sold it and traded up to the HT1085ST (short throw) as I moved into a shoebox, and it's essentially the same projector as the W1070 with a short throw lens, and minus lens shift (sad to lose that).
All in all very happy with the BenQ lineup, but some just prefer optoma.
How does Costco work, don't you need a membership?
I've got one......we have ours for outdoor movie nights......pretty much as everyone else has said....brilliant bit if kit.....soundbar needed for those wanting booming sound.....but if you're after a massive picture this is fantastic....first time we used ours we fired it onto a bed sheet
Great projector. I have mine firing on to a grey wall and it still looks stunning.
Not having a proper lens shift can also be very frustrating as you need to position the projector perfectly. This isn't always possible due to room restrictions. Not such a big issue if you aren't using a screen though. Much harder to notice is the projected image is slanted etc when projecting straight onto a wall. For the money though, it is an amazing projector.

Does the select pricing apply to digital at any point?
Should be, like the first set of Selects games. Not sure when though.
Mario 3D World is an insane amount of game for £16.85, pure brilliance.

I've 100%'d it including with all characters, and it was one of the hardest. Champion's Road is crazy difficult. Very satisfying to beat though!
Well, it's the same game engine, so it's naturally going to have the same feel- same with Donkey Kong Country/Land back in the day. Wouldn't say that's a reason to shun it, esp considering they're on different consoles.

I didn't know what direction they'd go after Galaxy 2 and this did feel like a step back, but that's all so they could add multiplayer into a 3D Mario game which is hard as balls to do but super fun.

3D World... possibly the best Mario game ever made. Up there with Galaxy, Bros 3, and World
No it's not. It couldn't hold a candle to any of those games. It's a lazy effort on Nintendo's part and lacking in so many regards. Methane blowing foul smelling hot air.
Yeah, Mario 3D World was pretty much 3D Land 2 and in HD. Not that amazing of a game but fun nonetheless.
I think I'd agree had I not played it almost exclusively multiplayer, which turns into a brilliantly maniacal game of hindrances and crown theft, harder then single player.
Also, 3D World does have Champion's Road, which is by far the hardest 3D Mario level ever conceived. Every few months we have another crack at it, still can't beat it...
It's not about agreeing or disagreeing. Mario 3D World has the same camera style, gameplay, controls and level design all of which make it part of the 3D Land world. Nintendo obviously lazied out with Mario 3D World to bring a new Mario game to the Wii U without too much effort.

Great deal! Currently an Xbox One owner (It gets very little use), need some advice, should i sell my Xbox one and purchase a Wii U? Or hold off until March (Nintendo Nx). Main reason is gameplay, i have so much nostalgia from Nes / Snes / N64 ... gamecube not so much, the games are so well designed and fun to play, it really doesn't compare to what you get on the PS4 / Xbox, really love some of the pick up and play games from Nintendo.
P.S Both Xbox One and PS4 are excellent, but not really for me.
The next Nintendo home console is going to be out by March 2017 so really, just a couple more months and the Wii U's on its way out officially. So, not only will the price of it drop like the Wii did but also the games worth owning and playing will be cheap, i.e., the ones with the Selects' stamp. Hopefully Nintendo will do a third and fourth wave because there's a few left that are really good too.

Captain Toad is an underrated gem.
Great game, hope they do another.
It's literally a mini-game that could've been a DLC for Mario 3D World. Book 1 was the only one which featured new and original stages whilst 2 and 3 were rehashes.
Rehashes of what?
The same levels with the female Toad.
You should try actually playing it. I think you're in for a surprise...
Getting defensive, now? I played it all and wasn't really impressed with the game at all, only Book 1 was great, the rest was meh.

Not defensive no, but what you're saying isn't true.

While there might be some shared assets across the stages, books 1-3 are all different. It's 'Book 4' that are twists on levels you've played before. Even then; that's 60+ new levels. It's not as if the solutions are the same but with a different toad.

As for it could've/should've been DLC, I'll meet you on that yeah. Although to be fair, it did launch at retail at a lower RRP. (£29.99 I believe) And while it might have been £19.99 as digital (in line with Super Luigi U) if that were the case we wouldn't be seeing it for £17.99 and lower, on selects now. So, swings and roundabouts.

I kind of need something before Xmas so will have to bite the bullet before then. Just trying to work out if it's worth picking something up now for around the £1200 mark (which would most likely be 1080p rather than 4K) or waiting for some price drops in November.
wait for Black Friday...there must be more drops then, or by then
I agree.....these will likely come down in price and Black Friday will be a good time to buy with lots of promotions going on. I'd wait it out for a few months if you can.

Hello all. So I managed to get some viewing done last night with all sorts of content in different lighting. At 1080i with crimson tide, the fade from light to dark was not the best, it had a rainbow effect (without the colours) from light to dark.
I then put it through some 4k stuff and it was amazing still. The only time the blacks were more grey, was the outside borders on things that were not full screen. It handles the blacks really really well.
No the down sides. When trying to load something off my NAS drive, I found that it does not seem to have any DLNA functionality built in, something I took for granted. I may drop HiSense a mail and ask if there is an app going to be released to sort this.
What really hacked me off, was I found a dead pixel :( which is illuminating green. It really draws your eye in when viewing stuff in low light, which is exactly the environment I will be using for watching movies. So, this is where we get to see how Ebuyers customer support holds up, given the price of this TV.
Sadley, Ebuyers customer support is just pure awful! I would recommend paying the extra cash I purchase this from some place like Amazon, where the customer service is much better. I will certainly NEVER order from Ebuyer again.
Time for me to open legal proceeding on this one!
Here is the full chat script from customer services:
Scarlett: Hello, welcome to our live chat service. Is there anything we can help you with today?
Me: Hello
please can you confirm if I am talking to a human?
Scarlett: Yes you are speaking to a person.
Me: Ahh great.
I have just purchased a TV from yourselves. I am in love with the TV, it is amazing, but unfortunately, it has a dead pixel which is illuminating green [sad]

Scarlett: Just for security can I take your full name and the first line of your billing address please?
Me: xxxxx xxxxxxx

Scarlett: Thank you. Does the item only have one dead pixel?
Me: Yes
Scarlett: Bear with me one moment.
This item would need more than one dead pixel for it to be considered faulty. I can raise you a return for this as not required but thiswould need to be sent back at your own cost.
Me: You are quoting outdated consumer laws. A single dead pixel is not deemed to be acceptable anymore. I would like to have either a replacement or a refund. This can't be at cost to me, as this is faulty tech. If you are refusing to do this, then I will take the further steps I need to, to ensure this is resloved.
Scarlett: I have checked this with my Senior Advisor and we do not believe this is the case. However if you are able to email me this over where it advises this is out dated I would be more than happy to review this further for you.
Me: Sorry, I am not willing to do the ground work for you, I am your customer. I expect to be treated with respect. But you have made your choice. So now I will take my actions. My first will be to let the community know the screen issue and also the level of customer service I am getting from Ebuyer at: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/hisense-m7900-75-ultra-hd-smart-3d-tv-2195-98-ebuyer-2494412?p=28603729
I will go speak with my legal representatives and be in touch soon.
Scarlett: Okay thats fine.

I would expect that sort of response from any retailer, not just Ebuyer over a single dead or stuck pixel. Not many retailers would entertain a return (possibly John Lewis and Amazon being the exception) over one dead pixel. If it is indeed a stuck green sub pixel, they're the worst kind (bright green on a black background)

I know its not entirely honest but what you should have said was the TV has an intermittent fault such as intermittently powering off or completely dead, you could even remove the fuse and replace it with a blown example. You could still go down this route but make sure you do it before its over six months old, that's when Ebuyer's proportionate refund policy kicks in and they get even more difficult to deal with. Otherwise you'll either have to live with the TV as it is or pay to ship it back and see what you get offered as a refund.
I took some pictures of the screen using my Cannon 1000D DSLR. It will let you see the content I was using to test the screen and also the dead pixel :(

NOTE: This will NOT show how sharp the TV is or the picture quality. The slight blur is due to using a slow shutter speed, due to the low light.

Nice spot!
I have setup the TV now and so far I am very impressed. Given the main TV feed I am sending it is Virgin Media which outputs at 1080i, I was a bit worried with regards to pixellation at this size/distance. The TV handles it really well, far better than I was expecting.
I have been throwing loads of 1080p and 4k content, while playing with the settings etc from Netflix and Youtube. It is simply stunning, I can't imagine how a picture could be better, certainly not noticeable to the human eye, unless you are maybe a graphical designer using CAD software etc.
The screen is very reflective, so if you have a window behind you or if your viewing from an angle, and the window is to the side, then it can make seeing the screen difficult during bright daylight ! so please bear this in mind. That is the only negative I have at the moment, but one I feel people should know about before jumping in.
Thanks for that review! Did you have to calibrate the colors of the TV in the beginning or are you running everthing under standard settings? What do you think about the black levels of the TV - have you watched a movie at night? Cheers!

I took the settings directly from the AV forum post when I setup in the beginning. I am not clued up enough on the settings myself. I only know what is a good picture or not, which is why I spent about two days reading all sorts of internet stuff on it. Black levels so far have been really good, but like you say I will know better when I sit with a movie. My sister is coming round tonight, so I will be throwing a movie on. I am sure she will get hacked of with me changing all the lighting round the room lol, but I am sure she will cope haha.

I am still loving it though, no regrets so far. Only further down side I have, is more of an OCD spoiler, which is on the bottom of the remote, they have four fast keys which go to either Netflix, YouTube, Wuaki and TXT. I will never use the TXT or the Wuaki buttons, so I think these would of been better left generic, so the user can assign them to the smart tv app of their choice, but this was only a basic OCD spoiler :)

Thanks! Yeah I have been keeping an eye on the avforum settings as well. Do let us know about the tvs performance in night / dark environment - i am certainly not expecting OLED near black levels, but would be good to get a sense of "what to expect".

Unfortunately NOT available in all shops!
They had a few left in the Leigh store months ago i picked up the Mr Strong and Mr Grumpy :) Never posted it here as there was next to none left back then..
They must've found some more and put them out now X)

I have one of these the Mr Grumpy, its not very practical to drink out of because of the straight edges. Also I don't think its dish washer safe!

I have an Autobot one thats the same kinda square design as the Mr Grumpy one . Not for use in dishwashers or microwaves. I just clean a cup out after using em anyway, takes seconds under the tap.i got the Mr Bump one of these though

Crossbow
Has been posted for £100 lower & 5/6 year warranty a few weeks ago - the cost of these should be decreasing, not increasing:

LG 55EG910 55" Full HD 1080p OLED TV £1099 at Richer Sounds 6 Years Warranty

LG 55EG910 & 55EC930  55" Full HD 1080p OLED TV £1099 at John Lewis 5 Years Warranty

Understand your point, that seems to have been RS price matching JL - who then removed the product altogether from their site and have not re-listed it since.

Unless you have a time machine, this is the cheapest with decent warranty - you could always ask RS for a price match I guess.

Keen to get a projector to replace my 42" TV after moving into a much bigger house and lounge. Welcome any recommendations.
How can you upload a pic?
chrisredmayne
I'd love this :( but I think it would be too hard to me to set up a screen in my flat

No screen in my flat, just a flat white wall. Rented place and modern so no easy way to ceiling mount the projector or a screen so it's the wall and a bedside cabinet for a projector stand.

But then my living room is ~4m across the short dimension so a projector is required, most TVs look tiny, even my previous 50" plasma :P

I had the same thought but I found a way to make it work. I didn't want to hang the screen from the ceiling and because my TV was on the wall the screen wouldn't open. So I used 2x shelf brackets and wood to be hanging on the wall but away from it so now I open the screen and it covers my TV :D but I had to mount my Epson to the ceiling as it was easier for me.

I ordered a 92" screen and a 84" from Very for size comparison and becuase of a Yodel error they lost the 92" (haha 92" box missing) and i got the 84" for free. My flat is small and i think the 84" screen it's just the right size.

Only 1 year warranty instead of the standard 5 handed out by stores for new TV's these days.

Plus refurbished could mean anything really. Bit of a lottery on the TV working anywhere past that year mark.

Can't argue with that logic and would agree 4k oled with hdr would be far superior. But then that's spending stupid money. Same with 4k/ Ultra HD blueray atm no need to jump in right away. I remember when full HD and 3D tvs were stupidly priced. Not to long ago 4k was the same. But Hisense is changing that which is good.
So for me you have outlined when I might go 4k it's at least 24 mths away; too many things need to settle down, get established and come down in cost. I worry also that as DVDs are replaced by streaming the cost of hiring ultra / 4k buray will be to high...I am very value conscious.
Sadly streaming is the way forward. Love my Amazon fire box 4k version. Lots of 4k content through netflix and Amazon. Throw in Kodi with Plex and I rarely watch my virgin media stuff. But your right 2 to 3 years there will be a new whoo Haa probably 8k. On price conscious I'm chuffed as I got an EX. display 55Inch 4k hdr from John Lewis for £800. I couldn't believe it everywhere else it was at least £1200. Not to mention it still does 3d which I'm a fan of even though it seems to be dying lol.
Good priced TV well done - but to stream ultra 4k won't be available to many (due to the speed of the broadband connection required and th current state of the infrastructure in the UK) and I worry that the fiml companies won't bother much with the 4k ultra DVDs - you will need to buy rather than rent and so back to the issue of little top quality content. I read that the Netflix & Amazon etc 4k feeds are'nt suppose to be of that good quality.
I have virgin media and my 4k content looks brilliant. I have both amazon and netflix. My tvs wifi streams 4k equally good as my fire tv 4k. I also have a non 4k box and there is a clear difference in the stream. Not to mention some Amazon content has HDR.

Much appreciated... I wish there was a way to tell before ordering, but at least it can be sent back if it doesn't hit the spot!

LG don't use Vestel do they?
Pretty sure they do not. LG are one of the biggest panel manufacturers and I don't see any way it would make sense for them to follow Toshiba and Panasonic down the Vestel rebadge route. In fact, LG and Samsung are probably the two brands most likely to be making their own stuff.

ThunderBolt
I keep saying I won't look to Panasonic or LG anymore due to the whole Vestel shenanigans. Granted, this is a geocentric deal for a telly, but what's to say some site sells a Vestel at the same price as a genuine set?!?
Getting really fed up of re-badgers.

Did you mean Toshiba? As already mentioned, LG make all their own panels.

I keep saying I won't look to Panasonic or LG anymore due to the whole Vestel shenanigans. Granted, this is a geocentric deal for a telly, but what's to say some site sells a Vestel at the same price as a genuine set?!?
Getting really fed up of re-badgers.
I got this TV bought for me after my previous Panasonic was accidentally broken when it first came out last year. I think it cost £450+. I spent a lot of time looking into my previous TV purchase and my partner thought this was a good replacement. Personally, I would not have spent that kind on money on this TV.

The 4k is crisp but I do have some issues with BBC iplayer on and off. And yes, it's Vestel rebadged. The remote went wonky and couldn't use Panasonic own apps to control it. Vestel apps however do work. Smart Centre app is a bit basic but does what I want it too. Theres also an eBay seller who does have a replacement remote that works perfectly for just over £10.

If it had to be bought again, I'd pay what greysquaill offered tesco, not sure if I'd pay much more though for a refurbished.

The 3D will be tosh as its Active Shutter. Having said that, very cheap to include this feature.

Active 3d is proper 3d, the cheaper 3d is 1/2 HD resolution.
Ordered this and I found the picture clarity to be worse than my HD TVs I was going to replace luckily I bought it from Costco and can send it back free of charge as I am not happy with it .

no idea!

is this any good or just tosh?
I was hoping for some feed back too, I know Costco do 90 days returns policy if not satisfied and a free 5 year guarantee on TVs so sounds good.

Okay. It's somewhat different, but you might take a look also at the recently-released DOOM.

I have that one ordered thanks mate.Wondering if you know of any others along the same lines that use the same control system? Thanks for the reply
Most console FPS games have fairly similar control schemes, or are customisable to give that result.

What is it in particular about the control scheme that appeals?

Darn I voted hot when I was trying to squash a spider crawling across my keyboard, I guess that's karma.
Oh boy....
This is as cold as roadkill on a Alaskan roadside in the middle of winter ! R9-360 (2 GB) lol
what?
they bundle a 3D monitor with a AMD graphic card system?

the 3D would only work with Nvidia cards
Eeh it's terrible value but I just put the parts through pc specialist and got a price of £846 so it's not a bad price... still don't buy this. Learn to build instead, it's not that much harder (requires a screwdriver and youtube). Only time I'd ever recommend a pre-build is if someone does not know how to use a screwdriver, or if you're 80+ years old :P

Amazingly people like that aren't rare though, read an article the other day from a guy who built a PC but couldn't identify wires, couldn't follow instructions, didn't figure out that a big square hole is where a big square peg goes then raged about it.
