Quick update. Emailed Asus Europe who said gave me the email for Asus France who 'added my serial number to their server' and bingo. I have both games redeemed and a great card for £297 using Supercard. Cheers again OP.

That's awesome news, and decent service from Asus who can be patchy sometimes. :)

I'd send an e-mail to [email protected] and copy in [email protected], and explain the problem you are having, including the serial numbers and the promo code, along with a pdf of the invoice showing the purchase date.
Hopefully Asus will be able to sort it out. :)
Thanks again, sorry you have turned into support! I've already emailed Asus so will post result on here. Cheers

No worries helping, that is what this site it supposed to be about. :)

You can get the Asus Prime X370-Pro for £130 from Amazon.it if you need SLI but don't want to spend a small fortune.

Yes i agree with The Guru. Only scores 3056 on benchmark. Our 6 year old i3 scores about the same. A lot better spec out there for less money. I just bought an Asus TP300 flip with an i7 processor just under 2 years old for £200.00 so second hand values drop considerably as i know the one i bought was well over £600 when new.

yeah only thing that puts it down imo but still not a bad price for a 512gb ssd I feel.
Cpu is weak for the price. Apart from that nice machine

Every time i look for a deal it seems to have gone, this is the third one today now, DOH!

Shame this price isnt there any more, was very interested
Dear Priceyrice. the glare is not too bad it does have a reflection, but, the quality of the screen is superb and stunning apart from that. Like most laptops/tablets not suitable outside in direct sunlight.
Anyone got one of these, I heard the screen glare is awful, anyone able to confirm?
If you don't need a touchscreen/tablet get the Median S3409 and save £160.

But that doesn't explain why people pay the same price for substantially less performance. You wouldn't pay premium Audi prices for a Nissan Micra because you want something small and nifty - you pay based on performance and reliability. Paying premium prices for a dual core is ridiculous and for mugs

why are you looking at laptops btw? shouldn't you get a desktop?

none atm, but the improvement of this card over igpu gets you ?? for this money you could afford an i5 instead of i3 or i7 instaed of i5.

Yes, currently the Intel HD 580 Iris Pro is the fastest IGP and it's still not even half this speed. HD 580 is also not available on desktop. Intel call the HD 580 config GT4e and according to this:
https://techreport.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=117799
Its die size is 234mm² with ~71% of that being GPU which is about 168mm². GP107 as used in this GTX 1050 is 132mm² on TSMC's 16nm FF which should be less dense than Intel's 14nm. Obviously memory bandwidth plays a big role (and the EDRAM is separate on the package at another 84mm²), and with something as parallel as a GPU it is possible to go slow and wide (although HD580 still runs at upto 1150MHz).

But basically, Intel do those Iris Pros because they fell they have to, but their area/perf is rather poor and probably doesn't make the margins Intel are used to (which explains why they haven't felt the need to have any more desktop parts since Broadwell even though Broadwell unlocked 'C' parts regular do very well in benchmarks).

The fastest AMD would be something like what's on the A12-9800 which is OEM only AM4 Excavator processor and is only about half the speed of the Intel HD 580 so roughly a quarter the speed of this.

GwanGy
incidentally why do am4 mobos have all those video outputs, ryzen has no igpu ?
ZEN APUs are going to be AM4 too. The mobile ones are expected later in the year, desktop AM4 later.

What is a better question is: why do some high-end AM4 not have video outputs? Are buyers of the Asus Crosshair, ASRock Taichi or Fatal1ty so sure they will never want or need to use any future APUs that they are willing to give up the flexibility. Those three are all £200+ boards too.

Because the same motherboards will also support the APUs that are using the same socket.
But i'd like to know what onboard graphics beats a 1050?

I bought one of these from a another deal. It would regularly lock up under load. Asus did not reply. The vendor told me there was a batch fault with many of these cards and gave me a refund.
I had the same issue - went into Wattman and increased power by 25%. Worked flawlessly with the latest drivers since. Worried me at first but very happy now!
Interesting. How did you know to do this?

From a post on another RX480 deal by a fellow HUKDer. Reading up there's a lot on the web about the card not getting sufficient power in order to comply with the manufacturer's rated power draw - this seems to have fixed it. Had a few hours on GTAV, Shadow of Mordor etc with no probs, temps stay below 80c.

I'd be interested in this due to the specs, but ASUS have big problems with bloatware, so the specs would be inevitably eaten up by ASUS crap... Gave heat because for the money it seems a good deal and for those who do the "rooting" thing it's probably even better, but I cannot do that stuff and because of the horrid crud I've had from ASUS I'll pass on this, heat anyways

I hear your predicament there, hmmmmmmmmmm, but fair enough still?.

Thanx for the heat + the feedback anyway.

All the best in your Mobile Phone endeavours though?. :-)

I'm in the same boat as you. Was looking at this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Samsung-Tab-10-1-Inch-1-6GHz-2GB-16GB-Wi-Fi-Android-6-0-Tablet-White-/331985420694
I know it's refurbished but it comes with a 12month warranty.
I'm currently looking for a new tablet to replace my aging Nook HD+. I considered this one, but I'll mostly be watching Youtube, Twitch etc. on it, so there will be a lot of wasted space on the 4:3 ratio screen.

Honestly, there's not a lot in the £100-£300 range with 1080+ screens. One I had my eye on was the "Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 Plus" with 2560x1600 screen 16:10 ratio, but typically it went from £250 up to £300 in the last week (at Amazon, Curry's & JohnLewis). Looking at camel price tracking, it has went up and down between those prices, so hopefully it will go back down to £250.

If anyone reading this is looking for one sub £200, have a look at "Huawei MediaPad T2 10.0 Pro" which on 22nd May is £160 at Argos. Arguably the best spec sub £200 known brand tablet available at the moment. There's an Acer at £180 but its a quad-core vs the Huawei octo-core CPU.
Expired now
My parents got one each when they were on the £250 offer in Currys. I had to set them up (obviously). I was very impressed with the look, feel and quality. I found the Asus skin/software a little annoying - I kept bringing up a menu accidentally whilst doing things on the home screen - but if it were mine and did get too annoying I would just use the free and fairly standard Google launcher instead. I particularly pushed for them to get this model because of the 32GB of storage which is still seriously rare on decent priced tablets - I have a 16GB LG tablet and quickly ran out of space for apps (I do like a few apps in all fairness!). Really good at this price, if it dropped to £200 (wishful thinking) I would get one myself.
What is its performance like vs nvidia fire and samsung s2?

Theres no way I'd pay 400 quid for a tablet so samsung ruled themselves out, so its basically one of these or a k1 but this has a mediatek chip thats apparently a bit sluggish in games?

OP I'm afraid the deal is not great for some. It's last generation specs with the 6 series processor and the 9XX series graphics card.
A HP Omen posted the other day was £899, which had an i7 7700HQ and a 1050Ti which isn't far off a 980M and it came with an xbox elite controller so effectively £800. So I'd imagine you could probably get the i7 and 1060 for 1200 so why wouldn't you?
Perhaps the quality isn't the same, I've not seen either in person, but if I was a betting man that'll be why this has gotten cold. Expensive laptop deals always go one way or another.

I'm not sure mate, but my guess would be the gaming nerds on here will want a 1050/1060/1080 graphics card (I don't know anything about them, I'm proud to say) for less than £1,000, even if all of the other specs and screen are crap.

Had this machine for a while. It has a lot of things going for it but in my experience, the WiFi is downright terrible. Any distance from the router and the speeds drop to ~1mbps, if it's able to make a connection at all. Placing it on your lap also hurts the WiFi, and I'm pretty sure it's not a defective unit since I'm on my second one. Even as I was typing this it disconnected randomly.
Had a few random hangs here and there too, not too often but enough to be irritating. As for scaling, 3200x1800 is pretty unnecessary and causes some applications to not display right. Many of them have adapted however, though some haven't.
What router you got
It's an old Virgin Superhub. I know it's a bit of a poor router, but I don't have this issue with my Asus Transformer, my Phone or even my decade old laptop. It's pretty frustrating
Sounds like router.. upgrade to a dual band..!

I'd blame the Super Hub from Virginmedia. I have no end of problems with the Wi-Fi on mine. I ended up creating a guest network with different name but all the same settings, channels etc and for some bizarre reason that one never has any problems. Even on my iPhone trying to get to Apple verification fails unless I'm on the guest network.

Guess I'll have to look into it. Like I said, all my other devices are fine, it's just my Asus that gives trouble which is frustrating given I really like the device otherwise. Are the Superhub 2 or Superhub 3 any better?
Looks like an Amazon listing issue, this does have 802.11ac Wi-Fi & Bluetooth 4.0

Personally, there are cheaper options for this spec.

Plenty of the Chuwi tablets at around £100 to £200. The Linx 10v64/12v64 both have Atom X5/4gb ram variants but you sacrifice 64gb storage but it'd still be cheaper with buying a 64gb micro sd card.
I wouldn't chance another Asus product

This is a good tablet but a bad phone for use in uk. No UK 4g bands and banking and other apps do not work on the Intel processor. That is why this phone and intel mobile processor flopped. It has been on sale for last two years at similar price.

I have one of these phones . Paid a lot more than this (although it was the 64gb rom version). Definite heat... BUT be aware that you can't load some banking apps to it or sky sports mobile. Something to do with it being an Intel chip and their security apparently. See previous post... AND... Having had it nearly a year to the the day the battery has a tendency, on occasion, to go from 30% to 0% in about 15 seconds...but not all the time though .

Gaming without limits on 1050... good luck :)
1050 is a good card, especially with 4gb of ram. Not the best card, but for £800 this will play most games at high or ultra at 1080 with decent frame rates. If you can find better, please post. 1050m Ti would be nice, but would cost more. 1060, 1070, 1080, etc...

I think thats a mistake from amazon, as stated above it will be the 2gb version, its not a bad price for the spec but i think its worth saving another £100-200 more for a better spec

it's not a HDD....
It is getting nougat! I just asked the customer service and they said it is getting it this year!
Your Memo is doing very well given it's rep. You must have the good one. :)
It won't be running Gingerbread though - that predates Honeycomb and Honeycomb predates the Memo. I believe it launched with one of the iterations of Jelly Bean and ended up with KitKat, but I can't remember if it got that far.
But this one's great and so was my Asus Memo Pad 10. Don't think any company has flawless QC - think Samsung. My Memo Pad is currently in the nursery, on 24/7 and no reboots ever. Think that's on Android gingerbread. The Asus Zenpad 3s 10 is used for family stuff and hasn't had a hitch. If it receives Nougat it'll be great but it's a fantastic tab without it. Anyone who really wants Nougat on it will find a way and takes the rough with the smooth on experience if it wasn't a direct update.
Have fun folks.
Some historical insight for you into Asus tablets and Android tablets in general before folks start paying this sort of price...
1) The Asus tablet support is dreadful. They now have a reputation which is completely deserved, for not supporting their hardware with OS updates
2) Random reboots have been a feature of all Asus android tablets since the 2011 TF101
3) Virtually every Asus tablet has been know to suffer from cracking screens (except for the tf101). In every case Asus do not repair this under warranty, always citing poor handling by the end user
4) Google have dropped the Nexus range
5) Google have effectively dropped the Pixel Android tablet

In short, Android on tablet devices is now in a worse situation than it has ever been. I understand why a lot of Android fans will never buy Apple. That is up to them, but with Windows and Chrome OS devices available at this price point, anyone who buys this is just daft in my view.

is it ok for ee?

It looks to me as if it probably will based on the bands listed, but you can check on http://willmyphonework.net the problem is there are dozens of phones of this type - zenfone 2 ze551ml.

FWIW I owned one for a year and not sure I would recommend. Battery life was on the short side (but I had the 2.3GHz CPU version, YMMV) screen was not quite bright enough and updates were slow to come out.

Don't get me wrong it was OK, but not what I would choose again for the above reasons.

Also used to get properly hot sometimes and had to be restarted to fix. May have been addressed in an update I didn't use mine with marshmallow at all.

For the price I think you can get better especially if you are willing to sacrifice NFC and want to stick with ee so don't need the elusive band 20.

Increase power limit to +50% in driver settings, solves power throttling issues.
Did you do this based on any info? Have sent my first one back trying to decide if a replacement would be a waste of time if I end up with the same issue.

Based on experience with previous AMD cards including the RX 480, the 480 is capped at around 150W (overclocked cards are higher) to meet their marketing specs, if you increase the power limit the card can pull way more (IIRC spike above 200W) than 150W in certain conditions.

With the power limit at default 0% the card can throttle/stutter/BSOD if the GPU hits the max TDP specified in the card BIOS, without being able to pull additional power to the GPU above 150W-180W, FPS hits a ceiling even if you continue to increase the GPU clocks.

The fact that the GTX 1070 is rated @150W and the GTX 1080 at only 180W (with room to spare in regards to power margins) gives you an idea of just how far behind AMD is compared to nVidia with their performance/power efficiency.

I've built a rig with a Sapphire RX 480 Nitro (factory overclocked), the card crashes in BF1 at times (hard system reset), increasing the power limit all the way to the max solved that issue.

I like the RX 480 despite the high power draw relative to performance, if I were you I'd just get a full refund if possible, then buy a card with different brand on another store (return it if you still have issues) or possibly a cheap GTX 1060 instead.

That's the thing with overclockers. They bait you in with their prices and then slap expensive delivery on top. No other computer sales website has such expensive delivery.
lol, i have a lot **** experience with free postings companys, like last week i order some parts for water cooling loop, and grt only half order, dont get any email about missing order, they just dispatched.. And i wait for it over week.. Other company same this week i order that missing parts what i need, after 3days get email my order ready to ship..lol
So i better go overclockers and pay extra for SUPER FAST DELIVERY, than wait fck know now long.

So when did you start working for Overclockers? Recently or a while ago? ;)
Anecdotally, pretty much all sites are very efficient with delivery when you pay extra. Also some sites free delivery is flawless, not to mention Amazon Prime, Prime Now, etc
Got the 4gb version along with the g4560 chip and very happy but with Doom i cant cap the frame rate in vulkan mode so you get screen tearing :(

Vsync made the game far too laggy and open gl mode while capped at 74fps to allow freesync to work has crashed a fair few times while other games have been fine...Might be just me as I'm new to pc gaming.

As a performance mark, the RX460 challenges the Geforce GTX750 Ti - and at this price, may be preferable, but citing CeX prices, yes, there are some significant variations, with older range cards dipping compared to more recent models that may have lower performance.

The GTX 750 Ti tends to be on the high side of used prices, as it was a very popular workhorse with a good performance to power ratio - and is still a competent entry level gaming solution.

It's a price point where the battle rages between budget new cards and older cards displaced from higher places

Before I buy - can someone please confirm this card is better?

The 460 is a bad card, full stop. It doesn't sit at a convincing price point and simply doesn't fit with the rest of the radeon product line. The gap between the 470 and 460 is extreme.

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/RX_460_STRIX_OC/24.html

It's simply bad value, even at this price. If you're looking at this price point (80 quid) seriously consider a used card from the previous generation. Or an APU/iGPU

A 280x or HD 7970 for £80 is a nice find, it will distroy the rx 460 in terms of performance, they are even better than the 1050tis at £130
There you go:
https://uk.webuy.com/search/index.php?sortOn=sellprice_asc&stext=radeon+3gb§ion=&rad_which_stock=2
From £70, which is the same price as the 280 and cheaper than the 7950. But then CEX prices seldom make sense. Well plus postage £2.50. Mail order you get absolutely no idea what make they'll send you though. But they do offer a '2 year warranty' (but I think unless they happen to have the same thing in stock, they'll try and wiggle out or credit you current price or similar).

Uses a slight bit more power though:
https://www.computerbase.de/2016-08/radeon-rx-460-test/6/
Total system load 124W versus 288W (you have to click the "+ 25 Einträge" to see the 280X).
But it scores 165% of this:

Probably slower than the old gtx titan x
Titan X still goes for well over £300+ on ebay, a used HD 7870 £40-£50.
This card is not even worth £50, for £80~ you could buy a used HD7970/R9 280X that will thrash this pile of junk.

Okay great. You keep living in your own little world then.
not my world, amd's world of garbage gpu's. Roll on vega.
Vega price point vs competition is still unknown, as is performance. Polaris being "garbage at any price" is completely moronic though
hardly, the 480 cant even beat the low end 1060, and nvidia still have the 1070, 1080, and 1080 ti to spank it.
More expensive GPUs beat less expensive ones? I am shocked
With the 1060 and 480 however being very on par

Also 1060 and 480 are essentially equal performance.
Doesn't seem like a great deal for the 480, unless you need this exact card. 480's going for sub £200 with decent coolers, as are some 1060's, if you don't have a particular allegiance.

RX480 and 1060 are about the same and speed is not everything. I upgraded to a gtx1070 recently and I feel its **** compare to the 480 quality. Image qualities & colours are simply much beautiful on AMD. On the GTX its washed out and crap. Drivers are the same. Crimson is just so much better polished and customization is better. It even looks better. So yeah in FPS count GTX is better. In quality AMD is in my opinion. And the 1070 cost way more. I didn`t even realised the difference on 1080p just the image quality. So whats the point? FPS count? Count your FPS then!

I once tried to RMA a motherboard and Asus asked me to go via the retailer.
Yep, typical response from Asus however they offer the warranty so they have to honour it after all they can't make you use the retailer if they no longer exist ;)
Sure Asus UK will honour warranty for an item sourced outside it's distribution channel (in this case Asus EU)? I've run into issues in the past with Sony who refused to repair a PS2 I bought from HK because it wasn't purchased in the UK.
HK and EU are completely different trading zones, and Sony classify products purchased in the USA or Jap/HK not covered but the EU warranty. Asus have an EU warranty which includes the UK, just like ASRock and EVGA etc.

Pretty sure ASUS only have a "local warranty" so applies to the country the item was originally from. So you'd technically have to ship the unit back to France for an in warranty repair.
View a curved screen before buying as the perspective is not for everyone!

Not super hot, but pretty hot.

If you wait until early April, the RX500 series re-spin will be out with rumours of it being more efficient and slight higher clocks.

With recent driver improvements they're on par with a 1060 6Gb, uses more power mind.

Tempted - this or a surface pro - need it for uni work (part time ou student- have my desktop for gaming ). Does anyone know of it can use a stylus and does it compare to surface pro stylus ?

I was in the same position with this and a surface pro. I found a SP for £900 new though and couldn't resist because i wanted to draw, too. The SP is fantastic but mine has half the storage of this and no 4k. Oh and no HDMI out...

Argh looking for a good modem+router

Just buy a separate BT Openreach modem off ebay (got mine for £12 delivered years ago). Used it with Sky and now BT. Then connect that modem to the router of your choice.
xavierzzz
I have used a few Asus expensive routers including this ASUS RT-AC87U and a ASUS DSL-AC68U, they all have little but frustrating issues, things like taking ages to reconnect after re-boot, all show as working & connected but no internet, all cable connected devices work but not the wifi...which eventually put me off
I agreed Asus's routers look cool and they are good spec hardware-wise, but I think their software are too complicated and unfinished which makes the devices are so unstable, on top of that, they are more expensive than the others.
I recently switched to TP-LINK Archer, much happier with it.

Which tp link did you looking at replacing my d20 for the archer vr400
They have half a dozen or so "used like new" warehouse deals for 122.87. One of them reads "Item is in original, pristine packaging. Products that have been water tested may contain residual water or water marks. Products that have been factory tested may contain traces of coffee in the mill.". I find that covering my router in coffee and submerging it in water helps boost performance.
Word of warning to anyone on Sky Broadband (ADSL), if you are looking to have a separate dsl modem + Wifi Router like this one as your configuration, most standalone DSL modems will not work in bridge mode with a Wifi Router.

This is because Sky only seem to allow PPPoA connections (unlike BT which allow both PPPoA & PPPoE). I found this out the hard way after reading forums for several hours on end. Therefore you cannot put the modem in bridge mode and end up with double NAT. The closest you can get to bridge mode at that point is to put the Wifi router into the DMZ of the dsl modem to avoid it.

The forum posts were a bit old in date (1 or 2 years) but apparently the only way to achieve this setup with the dsl modem in bridge mode on Sky is to buy either a Draytek Vigor 120 or 130 dsl modem which supports PPPoA to PPPoE bridging. Not sure if they are any *other* dsl modems so far that support this yet...?

Needless to say the draytek modems are more expensive than your average dsl modem. £50ish for the 120 and £80ish for the 130, I think....

Do you know if the 10% off is just on this computer? I'm looking for the yoga 900s but it doesn't seem to be in the offer?
Maybe the 10% off has been applied to all the listed prices.

Yes your right yayy! It wasn't included yesterday but I checked again today and it now is :D . Unfortunately I bought one from PC world in silver yesterday but I think I'll have no problem returning it when it arrives and then get the 900s from John Lewis- they have the gorgeous champagne gold, 2 year guarantee and the extra pen which I think is worth the added £90 on the PC world price <3

Seems like a good deal to me. Certainly cheaper than what I could find elsewhere. I've got the UX305 and it's brilliant, which this is the upgrade of. Exceptionally lightweight, start up in seconds and no issues with overheating. If you want something a bit cheaper, then i would still recommend it (might be superseded by the 310 now, which is circa £600), but this is still definitely good value.

I've been looking at the 305 too as you can get it in white (the colour means a lot to me!oO ). There was a deal on here a year ago for it at curry's for £499 and £100 trade in on top. But it's not dropped below £599 for months now. There's a refurb deal currently on here for it for £380 at the moment.
I thought I'd settled on this but your comments on the 305 are throwing me back!

use another Amazon account and create a wedding list, put the 1070 in that wedding list.

The Asus RX 480 8GB is on Scan for £174.98 with the DOOM game. I'm thinking of getting it but everyone is saying this card is loud and faulty.
I have RX 480 8GB XFX version and before I made my mind up I was worried same like you, as many users were complaining about the noise level and so on. But it really depends on your PC case, resolution you want to game, etc.
Maybe cards with earlier BIOS versions had some serious issues but now having the card I can't say anything bad about it, so far I would even say that it is a best GPU I ever had. I play in 1080p, my PC is without a window and literally next to me and when it comes to the noise I'll hear my PSU over the GPU.
I'm talking about the ASUS cards. They appear to be very loud and run hot.
I know pal, my point was that it is probably the same story for all makes of RX 480, but if you look on reviews, also note the date when they've been posted - most of the negative ones will be for the very early releases of the specific card.

The card in this "deal" is garbage compared to a 1060, which i admit is pricier than the rx480, but its beaten by the low end of Nvidia's line up.
This is just pure misinformation. The 1060 and 480 now tie on average in DX11 and the 1060 loses by 6+% in DX12 titles:http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/73945-gtx-1060-vs-rx-480-updated-review-23.htmlhttp://images.hardwarecanucks.com/image//skymtl/GPU/GTX-1060-UPDATE/GTX-1060-UPDATE-101.jpg
That's not quite accurate. Firstly, that's the only source for the 480 now matching/beating the 1060 - a similar article a few weeks later had the 480 still slightly behind the 1060, so we can take it that the 480 has closed a lot of the gap, but relying on a single source to say the 480 is now faster is a bit... optimistic, shall we say?

Except... notice what CPU those tests are using. I doubt many gamers pair a £150 card with a £300+ i7 CPU, which is what you'd need to get those results. If you can find comparisons of the 480 and 1060 using i5s and i3s, you can see how the 1060 doesn't drop in performance as much as the 480 does when paired with a weaker CPU. So, while it's fair to say that the 480 has closed the gap on i7 systems, it's wrong of you to assume that carries across to all systems ("pure misinformation", one might say ;)).

Here, don't take my word for it:
Eurogamer
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare runs faster on AMD's RX 480, compared to its Nvidia rival, the GTX 1060. It's an advantage that plays out consistently, as you can see in our Infinite Warfare PC performance analysis. But here's the thing: running these GPUs with an i7 - as we did above - essentially offers something akin to a bottomless pit of CPU power, and the balance of power between the green and red teams changes rapidly when you pair each GPU with a less capable processor, like the Pentium G4560 we're reviewing here.

And you can see that in the shot below, taken mere seconds later. As soon as the action intensifies, the RX 480 suddenly loses a lot of performance. Minimum frame-rate actually hits 45fps in our tests - 20fps lower than the GTX 1060. And that's important when choosing a graphics card to pair with a less capable CPU. AMD's DirectX 11 driver lacks multi-threading capabilities and is significantly less optimal than Nvidia's, meaning that when the CPU is taxed, certain titles lost a lot of performance (and we stress, not all games exhibit the issue, but you have no guarantee which titles will be affected and which are fine).

And if you're looking at putting together a Steam Machine, or using Linux, the 1060 clearly annihilates the 480, of course.

All that said, £156 is a great price for the 4GB 480. It's a budget card, and that 4GB may well be exhausted this year, but it's going to be an excellent purchase for someone with a decent CPU who only uses Windows and has a fairly strict £150 budget. In that case, it's definitely better value for money than the £210 6GB 1060.
bouncy99
we shall see.
Yep, I think by the time the R5s are released they could be a very good choice. Bugs will likely be ironed out and they should offer very good price/performance ratio. I'd imagine with slightly higher clocks and a bit of optimisation they will match similarly priced Intel chips in gaming but blow them out of the water for anything multithreaded. I plan to get an R5 for my next build (think 6 core may be the sweet spot) *if* they iron out the issues. But new architectures usually have some teething problems. Personally, I'd rather support the underdog, provided I get best price/performance ratio I can within my budget, as I think it's better for the industry.
Nobull

and currently, amd can beat a 1070 with what? or a 1080 with what? amd cards are currently garbage. lets see what vega brings.
Completely agree...I'm no AMD fanboi, but your comment was incorrect re the 1060 vs 480. AMD have been far too late to market with Vega and have surrendered the high end to Nvidia for a whole generation...but needs must. They invested so much in Ryzen and they have such a limited budget compared to Nvidia and Intel and fight on two fronts. We all should pray they do well with both Ryzen and Vega to introduce healthy competition. Vega, with HBM2 and biggest redesign since the original GCN (apparently) could be a big step forward for AMD but I really feel they can't simply be matching the 10 series of Nvidia, they have to be beating them 15-20% and be competitive with Volta at a lower price point.
Totally agree, unfortunately it appears ryzen may be a flop in gaming performance, according to some early reports. They are blaming a lack of optimisation for their product, so we shall see.

to be fair, my dad has this model. it's quite Chucky and it's an old spec now. it's quite slow for even basic tasks caused by a mixture of low ram but mainly the CPU just not being able to deliver. not voting either way, but I wouldn't recommend it

Why so cold!? I'm pretty sure the Strix is up there with the GTR in terms of the pcb.
It may be the best 480 8gb out there, but that's the problem. The 480s do NOT overclock very well.https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/RX_480_STRIX_OC/23.htmlhttps://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/RX_480_STRIX_OC/26.html
OCing the Strix results in less than reference 1060 6gb OC.
Once you start adding a few quid to the cost of a 480, it's value quickly goes down. You can't push the card, so why have an exotic cooling solution?
I've seen different reviewers get much better overclocks out of the RX 480. It may be true you can't get a whole lot more out of it, but take the gigabyte rx480 for example and look at the temperatures of that even with a custom fan curve before overclocking.
Care to provide a link? I've not seen anything over 8% in game performance. I've seen a 11% theoretical OC, but it never translates to game performance (from what I've seen).

Why so cold!? I'm pretty sure the Strix is up there with the GTR in terms of the pcb.
It may be the best 480 8gb out there, but that's the problem. The 480s do NOT overclock very well.https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/RX_480_STRIX_OC/23.htmlhttps://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/RX_480_STRIX_OC/26.html
OCing the Strix results in less than reference 1060 6gb OC.

There you go, i've seen higher than this as well :)https://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2016/11/24/sapphire-rx-480-nitro-oc-4gb-and-8gb/11
I mean, do you refuse to actually look before posting?
I mentioned that I've seen 11% theoretical OC (These guys say 12% theoretical OC).
But did you actually look at the benchmarks provided?
There are 2 cards here tested over 2 games!
Sapphire and Asus cards.
Sapphire goes from 60/55 + 48/44 = 9% (With HUGE rounding errors).
ASUS goes from 53/51 + 42/39 = 5% (with HUGE rounding errors).
So, are you seriously willing to contest this as 'higher than 8%' with the amount of rounding error? These are whole numbers being used, and over 2 games. Seems almost *perfectly* aligned with what I've said (8% games, 11% theoretical).
The conclusion page just echoes my words:
Quote
"the 8GB card improved by between seven and 11 percent"
For both cards, the first step in overclocking was to whack the power limit to 150 percent (the highest available setting) to reduce the potential for bottlenecking.
For the 8GB card, the core was stable up to 1,422MHz, but only after we also increased the voltage by 100mV. The memory was also happy with a small bump to 2.1GHz (8.4Gbps effective). These are overclocks of six and five percent respectively, although 1,422MHz compared to reference speeds is 12 percent higher – not bad.
As for the 4GB card, the core this time around was stable at 1,426MHz, an increase of 120MHz or 9 percent (13 percent over reference) – again, 100mV more was needed to hit this. The memory here managed 1.925GHz (7.7Gbps effective), a 10 percent increase.
At these speeds, and with the additional power headroom and voltage, system power consumption rose to a hefty 412W – this result was the same for both the 8GB and 4GB cards.
(12% HIGHER THAN REFERENCE) No where in that text does it say theoretical and last time I heard 12% is more than 11% X). Besides not everyone buys graphics cards just for games... X)

I mean, again, you made an assumption that a 12.3% mhz bump will mean 12.3% theoretical benchmark improvement.

It doesn't, look at your own source... 6094/5633=8.1% for the Sapphire and 5981/5566=7.4% for the ASUS in theoretical benchmark improvements.

Do... You get my point yet?

Its as simple as this, if you don't care about backplates and RGB lighting the get the dual, but if you want those things for your specific build you have to pay £30 extra. Some people will happily pay for those features.
Exactly, the Asus Dual OC would look terrible in my build X).

i bought the 4gb dual for £150 and can confirm its not a looker! But it should do the job until AMD release their top end cards (need it for freesync)

Look even two months from now; numerous flagship top spec G-sync 34"+ coming out the next month or so. Should push the prices down.

Amazing monitor but that's a terrible price.
With very little effort I've found it for £899.99 at eBuyer, Scan and Overclockers.
