It's quite low spec, the CPU is weak. I wouldn't pay even £125 for this.
Erm title says argos, link goes to currys.

Seems a lot still for what you get, impressed by how low the battery life is on such a low powered machine.

Core i7 7700K Review: Extreme Gaming CPU Power

For most people, probably yes. But if you're trying to squeeze every last FPS out, maybe not. Other factors such as which game you're playing, the resolution and the GPU you're using need to be considered.
mark6226
The i7 isn't necessary for gaming. It's a waste of money.

This is just not true, an OC i7 7600k @ 4.8 Ghz beat's an OC i5 7600k 4.8G hz hands down by over 30 FPS in some benched games. No contest but whether it's worth the extra £ is purely down to your own budget.

Core i7 7700K vs Core i5 7600K Stock/4.8GHz Gaming Benchmarks

The leaked AMD Ryzen bench didn't look good either.

Not being an Intel fanboy either but when have they ever been the underdogs? As soon as AMD catch up, Intel move on to the next level.

Except that intel typically process node jumps (ie from 22nm to 17nm) we are currently on 14nm, die shrinks to 10 or 7nm are spose to happen from 2018 ownards. But each node shrink gets more and more expensive. The current core architecture has run its limits and intel is looking at new one from 2019. That is a long answer to your "intel will move to the next level" - in another words; they can't (so easily as they have done in the past).

Is the new amd ryzen not going to be 14nm where as Intel, as you already stated, are on 14nm & looking to move onto 10nm.

That seems to me like Intel are one step ahead especially with the view that the Amd ryzen isn't even released yet

Terrible deal for a dual core

I disagree

From Toms Hardware

"As you've surmised, the only difference between mobile i3 and i5 U processors is the i5 has turbo boost. That's it. So whereas the i3-6100U has a max frequency of 2.3 GHz, the i5-6200U will boost up to 2.7 GHz (2 cores) or 2.8 GHz (1 core) if temperature limits permit. That's about 20% faster, which is just barely on the threshold of what I'd consider a noticeable difference. (The i5 also has an obscure additional instruction TSX-NI, which helps multi-threaded transaction code like databases.)"

From Game Debate, re the graphics card.

Razakhawaja

"This is a really good card for casual gamers. It won't give you 60fps on new games, but you will hit 30 on med/low settings. For older games, this card is sweet. 45+ fps on most games from before 2012"

I think its a nice all-rounder for the money especially with the Nvidia Graphics, SSD additional to the 1TB HDD and its a fairly sizeable HD screen.

Perhaps those who are voting cold underestimate 6th Gen processors or need more cores for multitasking?

I'd take it over some of the I5 U laptops posted here recently for more money with integrated graphics!

I don't get it... the price seems huge for what you get. Is it the weight that people are happy about? The specs don't appear to be very good at all. No video editing, photoshopping... maybe word documents?

You can do basic Photoshop and video editing. It's not a netbook of 5 years ago. The core M isn't that much worse than an i3 ULV. Here people get excited about i7 ULV processors just because they see i7 and they think it's much better than an i5 when being dual core the difference isn't all that much.

mine works fine using it for converting photos and basic video editing. I didn't anticipate it being able to cope, but is does with aplomb!
I was bought this laptop for Christmas (£599) from John Lewis, same spec, just in aurora metallic.

I was concerned about the M3 processor, but I shouldn't have been, it has proven to be excellent.

I have used it to batch convert photos using Photoshop and have done a bit of video editing as well with no lagging whatsoever.

It runs totally and completely silently with zero heat issues. Owners have had issues with the screen failing, but so far, mine has been faultless.

The mains charger is very similar in size and weight to my daughters Macbook Air.

if I'm buying a gaming laptop , would only go for the latest 1060- 1080 cards as the performance is double compared to the 900 series cards
I would have but it's all down to the price as well as ram etc... and those laptops / pc with those cards are still to much.

Have explored a bit more with curved overclock on MSI Afterburner and getting a vastly improved boost clock. Seems steady around 2050-2100MHz. Seems I wasn't doing things properly before.

Great job. Not tried Afterburner yet with this card so will have to give that a try. Sounds like most of these cards will hit those sorts of speeds from reading various forums.

Going to expire this as now back to £455.

For info, if anyone is interested in what this card can do:

Got mine installed yesterday and I'm really, really impressed with it!

Overclocking wise I'm really pleased with the results. Mine holds steady at 2,100 MHz (boosted) on the core using the 112% power setting. I had it running around 2120 but started to see some artifacts which weren't heat related, possibly power limited? Temps hover around 60 to 65 under load.

Noise levels are low, even when taxed I've not seen it pass 67 Celsius in ultra Unigine Valley and this is with the default fan curves which are pretty conservative AND the above core clock going well beyond even the 1080-O8G version. I've hooked up a 140mm PWN fan to one of the 4 pin connectors on the front of the 1070 and set it to spin at ~ 1400 rpm when the 1070 reaches around 60 Celsius to give the card a bit of extra fresh air (not that it really needs it) for extremely minimal additional noise - love that feature!

Card is HUGE, heavy and looks absolutely fantastic. As it has a quality backplate I don't see any sag. It was a really tight fit on my motherboard, not due to the length but I think because of the backplate - it barely cleared the plastic ram catches and needs a bit of encouragement to slot into place!

Mine came with Micron memory (rather than Samsung) which apparently can cause stability issues when overclocking the memory, however there is a BIOS update that supposedly fixes this. I haven't felt the need to try this update since I can get +1,100 Mhz on the memory clock so far (around 9,100 Mhz).

Plenty of room left to tinker :)

Much better than mine. I get something like 1911MHz on boost clock, and memory only goes to 8950MHz. That boost clock bothers me a bit as the 1070s supposedly boost to 2000MHz easily if temperatures are controlled as well as this card does...

Installed mine last night. Overclocked a bit but don't think my card is a great one for that. It's fine though because the overclock I have settled on allows decent temperature and it is quiet, which is my priority! Definitely a big boost from my GTX 970

You're putting me off getting one of these.
Well for me it's an interim tablet until something better shows up. I need high performing Android 4:3 high resolution, and this is the only option that doesn't cost £400+.
Is the bloatware and software really that bad that you would need to replace the tablet with something else?

Yes. I've had to disable 33 apps, including system apps. The UI tweaks and Asus "branded" apps are terrible compared to their AOSP/Google originals.

Had to because they were causing stuttering performance and lag by running in the background. With them off the device is running smoothly.

Great piece of hardware but the software is not great. Mind you it's better than a Samsung!
Bloatware really not that bad. Love it!! Thanks OP.

You are correct they make it difficult but there are several internet articles and you tube videos to help you through this though a little technical. Worked 2nd time for me and I am not that technical. I think Fire 8hd easy than other models from what I read.

How about don't bother with this thread aye? Don't worry your little head about what others are doing. Cheers for being part of the white knight army for sellers. So in advance, thanks for : Telling us to let it go, move on with our lives, jeez we knew it was a massive mis price, we're horrible people for trying to get a £250 card for £10, how can we sleep at night... have I missed anything?

Yes people get mis-prices successfully and i absolutely believe you should give it a go and order whenever you see one ( i certainly do). If they dispatch, great, you have got it.

However, when it gets rumbled and your order gets cancelled because the mistake is noticed you just have to accept it. You really do have no legal recourse over this and it would get laughed out of a courtroom.

People are just trying to help by saving people from wasting their time on a fool's errand. The most you can hope for from this is a bit of gift credit from Amazon (if you complain at them enough).

I liked your Acer deal jayd95, but £643 for a 950m based lappy just isn't a good deal.
If you have any 950M lappy deals for under £643 I am interested...

You just have to keep your eyes peeled.... I bought an i5/860m (more powerful than the 950m) just over a year ago for £470. There was also that i5/950m deal a few weeks ago for £549.

Personally, there is no way I would buy a 9XX GPU at the present time (unless it was a give away price) as the 10XX class chips are just a huge step forwards in terms of performance (the benches for the 1070 are pretty incredible) and prices will drop come the Spring / Summer.

Derp, isn't that the same case with all gens, like the jump from 8 to 9 series.

TN panel... I would put the extra £70 in and get the IPS version, the colors on an IPS makes a huge difference.
Every single 27" inch IPS 144/165 Hz panel that I have seen has been terrible. No point in having "good colours" if there are yellow/white patches in the corner of the screen! They aren't fit for the market. Unless you are investing thousands in an IPS panel for professional work, I'd stick with a TN until the production IPS standards improve, or fast, high resolution VA, or OLED monitors arrive.

This deal is no longer available, but it's not a great router for those with internet faster than 25MB/s anyway. Can't expire this deal on my phone so if someone is willing to do it for me that would be brilliant

if the wan port is 100megabit / 12.5megabyte
it is good for internet up to 100megabit / 12.5megabyte

It is very simple

Hey! Yeah I decided to take this back, bought a Netgear PL1000 powerline kit and works like a charm! Control panel says I'm on 1Gbps and download speed is my full download of 56MB/s. Very happy I bought powerline over a new router.

https://www.asus.com/Networking/RTAC51U/specifications/
Not really for people wanting the best performance, it's severely limited by a 100mbit WAN interface port https://www.asus.com/Networking/RTAC51U/specifications/ why would Asus do this?! If it supports speeds up to 300mbs etc the wan port is under specification ???
Older Rt-n66u and the newer ac 66 posted earlier better for people who want the fastest throughout on their router but this is fine for casual users, no idea why Asus would cripple the WAN RJ45 port on this model though... Crazy
Would this then limit my internet speeds if I connected this to my virgin Superhub? I only want to use WiFi and no wired connections. My current speed is 50Mb, would this limit my speed to 10?
No you would get the full 50. In theory anyway. Closer to 100 and you would be pushing it.
Right gotcha. I'm currently on 325mbps and a download speed of 50MB. Hoping this router doesn't limit my speed. Also the RJ45 port says 10/100, not sure what that means? I take it this is the port where you would connect it to the Superhub?
10/100. Means 10Mbps or 100Mbps, whichever the device supports.
If you are on 325Mbps you really need a router with gigabit wan, 10/100/1000 otherwise your superhub will be connecting to your router with a severly limiting 100Mbps throughput.
So I won't get the full 325Mbps or 50MB download speed with this router? I'm so confused with all the numbers, sorry for being a pain. I just don't want to limit my download speed or bandwidth
No mate you definately wont.
Damn, looks like I'll be taking this back then. I'll try it and see what speeds I get, if I get capped at 12.5MB/s this is going straight back.
Hopefully Asus just got the specs wrong on their site, because there's no way you can advertise something as giving you up to 433Mbps speeds when it is actually impossible

Theoretically it can give you 433Mbps between WLAN devices, if it meets what the box says, which is most likley full of marketing **** and "up to" type of data.

Anyway give it a go and report back ;)
RT-AC51U: This model does not use Broadcom chipset and therefore cannot run Tomato firmware
Not tomato - no buy ;)

does this work with fibre? looking to extend the range in my house as my current one doesn't reach the house extension. thanks
It's a router, but doesn't include a fibre modem like the all in one boxes that Sky/BT/Virgin offer. That leaves you with a few options:
1.) Buy a fibre modem from Ebay or similar
2.) Connect this to your Sky/BT/Virgin hub and use the modem in that
3.) Buy the DSL version of this router which has a fibre modem built in
I used option 1.) when I got my one of these about three years ago. I then got a BT fibre modem from ebay for a tenner and hooked it up together. I've used it with Sky Fibre and BT Infinity, setup is pretty simple if you follow some of the online guides.

soton26
I strongly advise anyone against the DSL version, instead buy an Openreach HG612 from eBay and use in conjunction with this deal.

Would have snapped this up if it had a gyroscope
Further to my previous comment #56 = My Front camera just broke on my Zenfone2 !!
Do find it baffling at times. When people pay the reduced price of a Chinese outlet, like GB or Deal Extreme. Then complain about the delivery time/issues, which are quite obviously either related to the price that you are paying, or are issues out of their control. Maybe GB just do not know how dubious Yodel can be. Saying that, the local distributor we have for Yodel is superb. She drops stuff off, after dropping her kids off at school etc.
Does this have s gyroscope!! Googled but doesn't seen to have
tweetypie04
Never had any problems with Gearbest, just bought my 6th phone from them, redmi note 4. And it's brilliant and delivery was 10 days

It isn't just Gearbest though. As another poster commented, the thieves at Yodel robbed it and yet marked it as delivered. GB then say sod off as it has been delivered and whether Yodel agree it has been robbed or not, you have to get the Chinaman to make a claim and there is no incentive for them to do so.

Every stage of the process is weak. OK if nothing goes wrong but you are stuffed if it does.

but is the linx same for battery life? i got my asus t100 for 9 hour odd battery life and love it.

I found the complete opposite with my t100 the battery would last 4 hours on a good day and drain as fast as using it when in sleep meaning I had to power it off completely to not have to charge it permanently.

In the end my battery has just decided to decide when to work lately with it randomly deciding not to turn on one day and then working the next.

Its the 2nd asus product that has had poor battery performance for me (the first being a zenfone 2) I find they work fine for about 6-12 month then develop a battery that is great one day and poor the next.

My grandad developed the same issue with his zenfone 2 which makes me think its not just me that suffers but its nice to know someone has better luck with asus battery life than me.

I have yet to use a chromebook style device that can handle watching movies without the constant stutter and lag.

Even opening up office online lags these things.

These are great for 1 purpose and 1 purpose only.

Browsing and researching information on the internet.

If you are the type of person who needs to do alot of reaearch or enjoys searching online and general shopping these are great and the fact you cant watch movies and get distracted is a positive with these.

Please someone upload a video of youtube playing a basic 720p video on one of these without stutter or lag and I will eat humble pie.

It all depends on whether you think its worth the money.

I do own a chromebook and use it for research and for this sole purpose they are great as that what they are designed for.

i use my ancient c720 and it plays you tube 720p video smooth with no lag, with no problems. I think your getting confused with your internet connection. I'm not even on fibre broadband and it runs fine. I'm sure many Chromebook users here will agree for streaming videos, Chromebooks handle videos with ease.
can i skype with a chromebook
Get a Chrome book with 4GB of RAM or more for the best experience and make it future proof. 2GB no longer cuts it and when Android apps start integration then at least 4GB is going to be needed. My chrome book idles at over 2GB RAM usage with just the browser open one tab (plus all apps and extensions it opens with). If you're a very light user a good tablet w/keyboard in this price range is probably a better idea than a Chrome book.
Couldn't you get a fully working 11" laptop for this price though?

Would I be better off getting a used 970 for £100 to £130, for older games at 1080p?
yes a used 970 is still a strong card maybe 10% performance under a 1060 which wont matter in older 1080p titles. It really depends on what you want to do with your machine a 970 will last you just about the same time as a 1060 but is almost half the price. Consider the warranty availability also however.

Only the 16GB with 1.3Ghz CPU model, but probably the cheapest I have seen on the Internet. Also I think there is a further 4 % with a code. I bought mine from Tesco Direct and realised it was actual…

I've got it for 150 a couple of months ago. way too many bloatware from asus.
Dragging the speed down. very slow.
replacing with different launcher helps slightly.
Shame it's not the 32gb that's a lot faster as well

would linux work on this? I'm after a lightweight linux laptop for under £300, and this might tick the 'lightweight' box.
Looking for something for my kid to do homework. If this with getting or can we expect better after Christmas?
I've got one of these. Better than them crappy low end Atom's. I use a 128gb microSD for extra storage. 2Gb ram sucks. Windows 10 uses about 1.6GB on boot. I've disabled a bunch of services to get it to boot at 1.4GB.
Does anyone know if it's got the Synaptics active digitiser built in like the CHI series?

Is this the model which you have to charge the keyboard separate from the computer? If so, avoid.

No. You`re thinking of the Chi model variant.
