I also owned these. Microphone is extremely poor quality compared to other headsets I have owned or still own. The main reason I gave them away for free to a work colleague. Poor microphone on a gaming headset is a dealbreaker for me, there is also no in built side tone which resulted in me shouting as I couldn't hear my voice. Think I paid 29 quid in a Maplins sale about 2 years ago.

To be honest, the 970's are becoming more and more tempting, considering the prices, the second hand market, the general disdain shown for the 1060 3gb and the stock problems and inflated prices of the 1060 'full fat'.

Yawn, you buy on real world performance not on paper specs if sensible unless you fell for that AMD octo core CPU nonsense?

While I have a GTX970 ITX in my HTPC and think they are great cards, They are getting on a bit now considering they first landed in 2014. I think by now we should be seeing them at £170-£180 at most otherwise most people are just going to plumb for the RX470/RX480, unless they are especially loyal to Nvidia, which are similarly priced or cheaper.
Though I'm not especially loyal to either I think I am starting to build a slight preference towards Nvidia as I think their GPU specific features like DSR, Gsync and Nvidia Shield integration add more for me personally than AMDs comparatively lesser feature set...

VSR = DSR, Freesync = Gsync, Nvidia Shield integration = adds very little for the most people.

AMD have HDR in this price range plus they are be better suited to future dx12/Vulkan. Makes no sense to buy a 970 for this price.

Got these a few days ago. Tried them out briefly, nice coverage of the ears, comfy build. Sound pretty good, not crazy boomy bass. Springy band up top is a bit loose so they tend to sag a bit. Not crazy heavy up top but could be better. Not a patch on the light feeling i got from my Sennheisers, which were something like these, but a previous generation.

If you visit TransformerForums you'll find exactly the same advice and a very large thread all about Windows & battery reporting.

Have read and followed the advice there with regards to letting the battery drain right down until such a point that the tablet won't power on, and then giving it full (10 hours or more) charge - which I understand is meant to calibrate it. Doesn't seem to have helped. Battery drains as you would expect down to about 50% to 40%, and then its like a big chunk of battery capacity is missed. Within seconds, it drops from there down to less than 20%.

I've given the calibrate process another chance this morning and will try again later (when the battery is fully charged again). Before shutting down, I also uninstalled the ACPI battery driver (as recommended in another thread).

But I have a feeling that my battery may be faulty. If it means I have to be without it for a few days whilst its off at the service centre, then I'll still be happy (providing it comes back fixed of course :-) )

From a claimed 10 hour battery life...the most I can get is six
This can fluctuate from day to day even when I am doing the same tasks

Had the same thing happen this evening. 40% battery remaining. Put it down for 5 minutes to go end get a cup of tea, came back and 17% remaining. Something definitely isn't right.

I contacted Asus and received this reply:

"In order to find a solution to this issue, we may first perform a power discharge, so as to refresh the circuits on the motherboard. This can be done as explained below:

- turn off the machine (if it is switched on);
- disconnect the AC adapter;
- press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds (to discharge the components);
- plug the AC adapter;
- turn on the unit.

In case the above troubleshooting steps do not solve the issue, I am afraid that this indicates a possible hardware failure and in that situation we have two possibilities: you may consider either booking the unit for a repair with our repair centre or contacting the re-seller to see if the unit is stil within the return policy."

If you Google for Asus T100 Chi and battery issues, then there's a number of people with problems. Don't know what to do really. I have a suspicion that I'm getting what you'd expect from the battery, and it may actually be the reporting (in Windows) of remaining battery life that is wrong. So I could waste time sending it back to Asus, and it might be no better when I get it back.

You're right though... cracking bit of kit (other than this problem!).

On my t300 I reinstalled the driver (downloaded from Asus) and then requested it to add a device in settings. That worked. On mine it didn't mind it automatically when I did a clean install of windows 10. As soon as I did that it paired it and gave me the 8 digit key.
Thanks I'll try that!

Yes. The screen makes it better than the others. BT Keyboard is NOT a problem, battery in it lasts for weeks. Lack of full size USB ports is easily overcome with adaptor cables. The benefits outweigh the downsides.

VERY different! I only just noticed that the 103 is running Android 4.4 vs Win 10 on the 100 Chi.

Hardware wise the Chi has a better screen, four times the storage, slightly faster CPU, and USB 3.0 (admittedly micro).

it is but it's really all in the screen. it's still gimped by the 2GB ram. other half curses regularly at how slow hers is
Not surprised the CHI is now at £129.99. It doesn't have a full USB port, and the CHI requires the tablet AND the keyboard to be charged separately, and the keyboard is linked to the tablet via Bluetooth, which can be problematic!

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus-ve278h-27-1920x1080-tn-widescreen-led-multimedia-monitor-black-mo-042-as.html

Ordered this for my 7 year old son. He's getting a computer nearer to christmas - so this will be perfect for his room. Like the fact it has two HDMI also for him to hook up a console, plus the bonus of internal speakers.

While i have a 1440p Dell IPS" monitor and wouldn't have anything less than that, actually now debating a gsync one once they hit 4k at higher hz... For my son a larger monitor at 1080p is perfect, also once he gets older this can just become a normal TV with HDMI imports and internal speakers. Say for the kitchen or guest room with an Amazon Fire stick in it.

I'm not sure if some people are getting confused because there are 1gb versions of this as well and this is the 2gb version.
I haven't given it a thorough test, but I have set it up and it doesn't seem slow at all (I use the HP pro slate 12 normally), don't know if that's the upgrade to 2gb Ram and/or lollipop software over kit kat, compared to the old model.

Benq XL2411z is solid, but a littlebit dated monitor. Viewsonic beat it with its extra features like freesync and usb 3.0 hub. If asus was 144hz I wouldn't hesitate to take VG245H.

I'm typing on one as we speak. I haven't had any problematic bluetooth disconnections (although my first keyboard dock had issues where the slightest tap would cause it to disconnect, but that was because it was faulty).

Since my replacement, it's been fine. It isn't the most powerful thing around, but it's perfect for travel, web browsing, it plays 1080p YouTube videos without any stutter.

ok for the price. one annoying thing is charging the keyboard seperately

I have the T300 chi. I thought could Coming from a t100 that the BT / separate keyboard charge would be annoying. Shipped with 20% charge on Keyboard, did first charge after 3 weeks. Practically a non issue with that sort of battery life!

This tablet/laptop should be avoided at all costs. It doesn't have a full size USB port, and the keyboard has to be charged as well as the tablet. Also, the keyboard is connected via bluetooth, which is problematic.
You're far better with the 'standard' T100 models.

Agree that lack of full size USB port is irritating, however the keyboard battery lasts for weeks so not really too much of a pain having to recharge it occasionally. The bluetooth connection is not a problem. The screen is excellent and this is a far better unit than the 'standard' T100s.

Will pass then. Looking for a large sized tablet for my dad as his eyesight is dire... Something that's reliable and decent... Plus affordable. Please post up if anyone knows of anything. Thanks.

I got the Asus flipbook Chromebook the otherday and I have to say it is very impressive. While not strictly a tablet, the keyboard does flips back to allow use as tablet.

The ChromeOS is so easy to use, its really well made from alloy and very light too.

My 6 year old was using it with no help first time.

I like it even more because I can run Linux ontop of the Chromeos as a new tab in the chrome browser and install all the tools I use on my desktop for coding on the move.

The screen is not as bright and the proc is not quite as fast as some windows others but it does have twice the ram at 4gig as most windows 10" and it takes a 128g microSd card most windows ones only take 64g also the card does not hang out of the casing. Battery life is great and the windows hybrid tablet I had breifly would discharge itself in a day while sleeping, this Chromebook does not drain while a sleep.

I got it from Amazon for 199 highly recommend for a secure, premium build hybrid.

It's a nice little laptop, but with this cpu it's close to unusable, unless you only need it for vnc client, as browsing web pages will require some wait.
Yes, it says "no" twice and "yes" once. "yes" is correct --- of course if it flips, it has touch. It's also 1366x768 and compares poorly with the 1920 x 1200 Click Mini tablet --- though that doesn't flip and is probably Microsoft Windows only, among other drawbacks.

I might get this not-quite-new for about 80 pounds, like my Click Mini. The limited RAM and resolution are not worth the current price.
read the specs further.down on the website. it has touch
I'm confused, the linked item says "Touchscreen :no",whereas description here says yes. Item also talks about a tablet mode though, which I would assume you need a touchscreen for. Hence my confusion.
Looks like a good deal
Can anyone confirm as to whether the PC can be charged via the usb type c port

Thanks - I'm making some progress. The machine is a Dell Vostro 220 with Windows 10. The graphics card is a Radeon HD 4600 series - I was checking out updating the driver, but it seems that the Vostro is not supported in Windows 10 by Dell and its not looking like the graphics card is either.
I couldn't try a different cable as I'm using the supplied DVI to HDMI cable and I don't have another.
What I have just tried however is plugging the new monitor into a different (more modern) desktop in the household and it worked fine - I have .... erm..... appropriated their monitor for my desktop and that works fine - so we've agreed to swap.

Haha that's good sounds like a good deal for someone!

For an ATi 4600 graphics card I would say almost certainly it's overscan settings in AMD CCC (catalyst control center) as it was a more common issue on older cards. You can access CCC by right-clicking the desktop and selecting it from there. Sometimes the overscan settings are a bit hard to find in some older versions of CCC software as it's under a couple of sub menus; I believe under 'display properties' IIRC
Hope that helps anyway

Thanks - I've tried what's suggested there, but no success :(
It won't resize to fill the whole screen - basically I've got about a 1 inch border all the way round, so I'm effectively using a 25" screen.
I can reduce the resolution, and it then fills the whole screen, but I cant get the HD resolution to use the whole screen. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Or what I can try?

Firstly I would recommend trying a different cable. Also if possible try a different cable of the same type (eg another HDMI cable) as well as another cable of a different type (eg VGA cable)

Secondly what type of graphics card do you have? (eg AMD / Nvidia / Intel HDxxxx)
It sounds like you probably need to adjust overscan settings in your display adaptor control panel.

Ordered late yesterday afternoon, and received today - cant fault ebuyer for their speed of delivery :)
Struggling to set it up however - no instruction manual, just a quick start guide - the display is not using the full screen (PC is set to resolution 1920x1080) and I cant find any way to stretch it to the edge of the screen.
Anyone else with this monitor able to guide me through it?

A quick opinion that may help anyone. I've had a chromebook for a fair while and it's a great device for e-mails, facebook etc etc. I've always had a windows pc for any specific tasks.

Android support is a game changer. Honestly, I think android-based laptops/netbooks/whatever could catch on.

Gmail The offline gmail android app lets me compose e-mails offline to send later and works well.
Evernote One of my favourite apps, the android version just looks better, the font seems a bit bigger.
Games Telltale games titles don't work on my go-to nexus 7 so I've been waiting until I've got a device capable of running them before playing. Thankfully and somewhat unexpectedly my flip is running the games fine in a window. Can also play it full screen but my 'touches' seem to be off a bit.

Let me know if you'd like me to try a specific app, but they all seem to work fine so far.

The screen is fine for me. I don't doubt a higher resolution would be better and that a bigger screen would be better but you don't notice when using the device. As has been posted it would be hard to use in tablet mode without a bezel.

Chromebooks are useless!
I own a flip - android apps + full Linux is far from useless. I love the form factor, I use this more than any Windows 10 tablet or MacBook Air I have ever owned.
Have you managed to get crouton working on one of these? I've held off so far, because I've read that people have been struggling to make it work. It would be very close to the perfect device for me if linux does work on it.

Anyone had issues with delivery on this? Bought Tuesday with prime next day. Despatched on time. Should have received yesterday but still saying its with the courier (amazon). Amazon have said I've got to wait a few days before they'll send another out. Does that mean the courier has lost it?

Had the same issue, came the next day after complaining to amazon. Got a ten pound refund and 1 month of prime.

It doesnt have gigabit ethernet, that is bonkers, I mean just how little would that cost the manufacturer to add.
The description is incorrect mate, it HAS gigabit ethernet, I just checked on mine- it has Realtek GBE interface.
It would be stupid not to include that in high spec laptop.
And wireless effortlessly achieves full 200mbit i have from VirginMedia too, thanks to 'ac' standard
Edit- just to add- the laptop boots up in 4 seconds thanks to UEFI bios, as I said- on wireless its as good as on wire, the graphic card is much more efficient than my desktop's 660GTX and the quality is better than MSI gaming laptops that have similar prices.
Actually, the quality is better than 99.9% of all laptops on the market.
But...I paid 1200 pounds few months ago...for appr 800 pounds it's a steal
your desktop gtx660 is better or equal at worse than the gtx970m, you should change the CPU possibly on the desktop because must be very weak, tell me what you got and might help to verify. On the other hand the cpu of this laptop is strong hence the better performance of the gtx970m

Why not build your own PC? You'll save hundreds.
Every part you buy will have some kind of warranty so that's no big deal.
Also a 980 Ti is gonna lose performance pretty fast in DX12 and Vulkan games which are basically the future.
I'd personally go for an i5 + AIB RX 480.
will probably cost around £650-700
Why will a 980ti lose performance in dx12 and vulcan?
will not, thing are improving with drivers and NVidia is always been far better GPU with fewer problems, get a gtx1070 better

How does this laptop stand up to a i76700? Or one with a 980m graphics card? Ive always had consoles but now looking into pc gaming.

buy desktop not a laptop. around £1000 and you can get i5 6690k which is best i5 that performs as good as i7's but it's much cheaper. you can also get 980Ti 6GB which was 2nd best card out there before 1000 series came out. 16GB RAM, 5 additional fans and 3 yrs warranty

Any links please?

type in i5 6690k 980Ti in eBay.. it's in zalman case

Have seen a i7 with 980ti for 1089 on ebay. Would that be something to go for?

No, you can get better. You also want an i5, no point spending extra on the i7. If your not yo sure exactly what you need, go to a company like Novatech, Dino pc etc and ask them what they'd recommend.

a mobile with GTX1060 should perform nearly as well as a desktop 980[/url]
True enough in terms of performance but the price of nVidia's desktop GPUs makes me think that the mobile versions will cost much more than the ones they're replacing. You'll be able to get a laptop with a 1060 but won't cost anywhere near what the 970m laptops cost. Or 980m for that matter.

Probably true that 1070 will be much more expensive than 970m, but not sure that 1060 will be. Desktop 1060 are shipping about £250, which isn't too much more than a desktop 970 now that prices have dropped on the 970. Even if prices are up a bit, when the new laptops come out it is still likely to drive down the prices for the old laptops with 970m and 980m as sellers try to get rid of old stock. We're already seeing price drops with old desktop card stock so laptops are likely to follow suit. Still worth waiting IMO.

It's a good price right now, but we should see GTX1060 and GTX1070 laptops soon which will almost certainly drive these existing models down further in price.

Rumours are that NVidia is not going to have separate "M" for mobile cards for the 1000 series graphics but incorporate full desktop parts with just minor changes. In that case, a mobile with GTX1060 should perform nearly as well as a desktop 980, much much better than a mobile 960M, so worth waiting a few months if you can, either for discounts on old stock or better performance on new graphics.

I don't think anyone got theirs yet. I asked Amazon a few days ago they're getting annoyed with me. Oh and obviously they have no idea when exactly it would be dispatched. Sometimes I think to myself I should just cancel it and order the reference card from overclockers. There are a few 1060 cards supposed to be in stock by the 19th of August. We may get lucky.

Another Update:

This laptop has a problem with buzzing sounds appearing from the left side of the laptop (near the charger port).
The buzzing appears only when scrolling up and down and also when pressing the up & down keys.

A quick Google shows that similar machines (not just ASUS) have this issue around the charger area and is described as a "squeal" by some.

For me, the buzzing issue is not too bad as I'm always in a loud environment or have my music on. But if your prefer silence then this sound will distract you
Hi,

I find nothing wrong with the CPU but I do not really do high demand activities so it will depend on what you are wanting if for.

I'm not sure about uninstalling the Windows 10 question but I don't see why you would want to as the OS is quite good I find.

I like it.
Touchpad is good and not cheap style like most lenovo laptops have.

Laptop wire is quite thin and short compared to other wires.

Madness to get this with the 1060m out soon which blows the 970m out the water, the leaked specs show it has a lower clockrate desktop 1060.

I am actually holding out for a 1060m laptop, I was sorely tempted by this but the time isnt right for me. However there are some things to keep in mind.
This is a good deal if you need a laptop right now.
The 1060m isn't out yet, we don't know how much it will cost.
Apparently its based on a desktop chip, it may have heat or throttling issues.
The G751 is a nice package too, if you value a nice machine and saving a few quid over raw performance I think its not a bad bet.

I remember when there were a rash of cheap r9 290x cards on sale for a great price, loads of detractors were saying to hold out for the 390 series which would blow them away. In the end it turned out the 390 was a rebadge with more ram and the cheap 290s disappeared.

Well, it isn't madness for those that want a cheaper laptop & either do not want to pay a premium for the high end graphics chipset, or do not care either way.

can anyone tell me how this will run with the new wow legion coming out
Incognitoso
Yes all parameter very good if we compare price for parts and price Yes I do agree that ...
But gaming laptop ? I mean laptop in the first place for gaming - just pure my opinion is little strange ?
why you want bulky and heavy laptop if you can use as portable laptop ? I mean are you will be taking 17 inch laptop for holidays ? or traveling ? or else ?
So if laptop will be on the deck all the time is it not become desktop PC ?
Yes it is slim and still portable compare to desktop PC but that all
GTX 970 vs xbox one s or PS4 what the difference same games same experience
But price for PS4 just 200 + where gaming laptop 900
anyway maybe I become old and my view changes still you need SSD for gaming so this laptop have 1000 GB HDD wich will be very slow to load games need to replace to SSD at least 512 GB £160-200 add to laptop price
Some people travel a fair (for work for example) requiring them to stay away from home for a number of days/weeks. In that case it's great as you don't have to lug around your desktop PC and can easily place this in the room where you're staying.

Doesn't make sense for everyone but there are those for whom it makes perfect sense.

Meh, back up in price now
BetaRomeo
rev6
BetaRomeo
The 1060 has the same speeds with newer tech at a lower power consumption and is available at £250 today. £290 (or even £262.64 for the scuffed-box version) for a 980 just isn't competitive - and that's before considering the "ooh, new shiny" factor.
If you're thinking of going SLI, you might get ~£220+ for your old 980 and can get two 1060s for a roughly equivalent price, not to mention a lower power draw.
1060's can SLI?
Heh, what a coincidence, I was just going back to my comment to edit it and say I don't recommend SLI! You're right, of course, Nvidia agreed with me and removed it altogether! ;)

Which is why it's on the 1070 and 1080 ....

the OC version of this card is available at Scan for £499.
there is a slightly cheaper one from Amazon (German seller for £487 I think)
Cant find any OC versions in stock at a decent price. Might just go for this one and do a manual overclock on it.

Asus T300CHI(MS) Transformer Book £299.99 @ ebuyer

Seems like a very good price. Main advantages are Core M processor and 12.5" screen and I think anything less than that is not enough if you want to use it as a laptop. All other places I've checke…

Cold from me, if it's anything like the 10" one, then it doesn't have a full size USB port.

No it doesn't but all is not lost. It has a USB 3 type B micros usb, the same one as on portable hard drives and Samsung S5 etc. I hated this at first but I found a workaround. You do get a little hub with the laptop with gives you two standard type A (full size) usb ports. The one advantage thought with the micro type-b usb port is you can use any device that has micro usb on it which is most android phones, tabs etc. What I did was just get a couple of converter leads from ebay for the items I plug in often which require a full size usb socket. Only downside is if I want to plug in more than one item as I have to use the Asus hub which I don't like.

A cracking laptop - glad I read your link. I got my son a i5 transformer trio which has been fine. Was hoping to get myself something similar.

Dell Latitude 7350 is similar. has backlit keyboard, excellent screen, optional extra battery in keyboard. £339, ebay item 131872617326 (refurbished with 2yr dell warranty). Have bought 3, for myself and family, highly recommended.

Very good alternative, this is where I would be spending my money... although it's a bit less sexy

Soldered RAM? GTFO.
CampGareth
That feels a bit expensive to me, tried matching it on PC Specialist or somewhere similar?

Also 4GB soldered? Then this isn't a high end machine, they normally come with nothing soldered so you can go to 16-64GB.

Bought one of these in the Comet closing down sale. Absolute steal at this price.
I've got one on my Nexus 7 right now, bought it cheap online. been putting up with it but it's pretty crap tbh. doesn't turn it on/off and flips open if you drop the tablet
I have no idea why it's 80p, the packaging was a bit battered but the cases were fine. And no, there's no magnetic switch on them.
what's the catch here. how is it 80p?
Do these have the on/off magnet?
